(Jacques Lecoq, in a letter to alumni, 1998). 79 CHAPTER FOUR INTRODUCTION TO PART TWO. The preceding chapters have been principally concerned with detailing the research matrix which has served as a means of mapping the influence of the Lecoq school on Australian theatre. I have attempted to situate the research process in a particular theoretical context, adopting Alun Munslow's concept of `deconstructionise history as a model. The terms `diaspora' and 'leavening' have been deployed as metaphorical frameworks for engaging with the operations of the word 'influence' as it relates specifically to the present study. An interpretive framework has been constructed using four key elements or features of the Lecoq pedagogy which have functioned as reference points in terms of data collection, analysis and interpretation. These are: creation of original performance material; use of improvisation; a movement-based approach to performance; use of a repertoire of performance styles. These elements or `mapping co-ordinates' have been used as focal points during the interviewing process and have served as reference points for analysis of the interview material and organisation of the narrative presentation. The remainder of the thesis constitutes the narrative interpretation of the primary and secondary source material. This chapter aims to provide a general overview of, and introduction to the research findings. I will firstly outline a demographic profile of Lecoq alumni in Australia. Secondly I will situate the work of alumni, and the influence of their work on Australian theatre within a broader socio-cultural, historical context. -

Sydney Film Festival Full Guest Line up for 2014 Festival 03/06/2014
MEDIA INFO DOC SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL FULL GUEST LINE UP FOR 2014 FESTIVAL The 61st Sydney Film Festival presents over 180 films and welcomes over 100 filmmaker guests from 16 countries to walk the red carpet, introduce their films and participate in talks, panels and Q&A sessions this 4-15 June. For the most up-to-date information on guests and film please visit sff.org.au Highlights include: Direct from its world-premiere screening at the Cannes Film Festival, SFF and Vivid Ideas are proud to present the Australian Premiere of the highly anticipated futuristic thriller The Rover and host director David Michôd, actors Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson and producer Liz Watts at the State Theatre on Saturday 7 June. The Rover screens as part of SFF’s Official Competition. Michôd, Pearce, Pattinson and Watts will also give a talk as part of Vivid Ideas at Town Hall on Sunday 8 June. Actor Cate Blanchett will attend the Festival to introduce a special screening of DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 the second chapter of the epic trilogy in which Blanchett is the voice of the character Valka. The screening is held at 2pm on Public Holiday Monday, 9 June, at Event Cinemas George Street. UK visual artists and film directors Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard introduce SFF’s Opening Night Film, the Australian Premiere of 20,000 Days on Earth, on Wednesday 4 June at the State Theatre. The film, a highly stylised imagination of a day in the life of musician and author Nick Cave is also in SFF’s Official Competition. -

Australian multicultural policy and television drama in comparative contexts Harvey May BA (Comm), BA, B Bus (Hons)(Comm), Post Grad Dip Ed A thesis submitted in 2003 for the award of Doctor of Philosophy Creative Industries Research and Applications Centre Creative Industries Faculty Queensland University of Technology Key Words Multiculturalism, Cultural Diversity, Television, Drama, Casting, Minorities, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, United States. Abstract This thesis examines changes which have occurred since the late 1980s and early 1990s with respect to the representation of cultural diversity on Australian popular drama programming. The thesis finds that a significant number of actors of diverse cultural and linguistic background have negotiated the television industry employment process to obtain acting roles in a lead capacity. The majority of these actors are from the second generation of immigrants, who increasingly make up a significant component of Australia’s multicultural population. The way in which these actors are portrayed on- screen has also shifted from one of a ‘performed’ ethnicity, to an ‘everyday’ portrayal. The thesis develops an analysis which connects the development and broad political support for multicultural policy as expressed in the National Agenda for a Multicultural Australia to the changes in both employment and representation practices in popular television programming in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The thesis addresses multicultural debates by arguing for a mainstreaming position. The thesis makes detailed comparison of cultural diversity and television in the jurisdictions of the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand to support the broad argument that cultural diversity policy measures produce observable outcomes in television programming. -
The Marrakech International Film Festival Unveils Its Official Selection
The 18th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival runs from November 29th to December 7th, 2019. THE MARRAKECH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL UNVEILS ITS OFFICIAL SELECTION Rabat, November 7th, 2019. Some 98 flms from 34 different countries have been selected for the 18th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, which runs from November 29th to December 7th, 2019. The flms have been programmed in various sections, including the Offcial Competition, Gala Screenings, a tribute to Australian Cinema, Special Screenings, the 11th Continent, a Moroccan Panorama, Cinema for Young Audiences, Jemaa El Fna open-air screenings, Audio-Described Cinema, and tributes to signifcant cinema personalities. The 18th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival is a showcase of the diversity and creativity of world cinema. Across a wide range of sections, no fewer than 98 movies from 34 countries will be screened. The Ofcial Competition remains faithful to the Festival’s determination to screen frst or second feature-length movies to reveal and promote new talent in international cinema. The 14 flms in competition for the Étoile d’Or de Marrakech all bear witness to an astonishing sense of style and depth of thought, daring to explore new territories and establish personal and very original approaches to cinematographic creation. The Competition also represents an eclectic selection that showcases multiple cinematographic universes from different parts of the world, with three European flms from the UK, Italy, and Serbia; two flms from Latin America, hailing from Brazil and Colombia; one US flm; another from Australia; three Asian flms from China, India, and South Korea; and four flms from the Middle East and Africa, from Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Senegal. -
