ASVA Visitor Trend Report, November 2015 Dashboard Summary, November 2015 Usable data was received from 196 sites. The total number of visits recorded in November 2015 Scotland Total Visitor Numbers was 1,257,559; this compares to 1,342,176 in 2014 and indicates a decrease of -6.3%. Excluding Country Parks Month of November 1,257,559 -6.3% q ASVA's Commentary and Observations for November 2015 Year-to-Date 24,272,877 3.2% p Please note that figures can only be used when there is comparable data for both years, so if you submitted figures for 2015 and do not see these in the listing, this is the reason. Including Country Parks The decrease of 6.3% may in part be weather related (see last paragraph) but it is also worth noting that November 2014 Month of November 1,834,759 -7.8% q showed an increase of 8.2% over the same month in 2013, so the comparison is with a ‘good’ month. In November 2015, 67% of respondents noted a decrease. Per Region Crucially a number of larger sites noted a downturn in numbers – Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh Zoo, New Lanark World This report was Northern Scotland 94,007 -0.4% q Heritage Site and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Although helping to mitigate this, there were some larger sites produced for ASVA by Eastern Scotland 716,531 -3.5% q showing an increase – Centre for Contemporary Arts, Edinburgh Bus Tours, Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, National Southern Scotland 17,824 -17.0% q Museum of Scotland, Scottish National Gallery and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Western Scotland 1,006,397 -11.1% q Looking at the dashboard summary, all four regions of the country show a decrease and nine of the eleven categories similarly show a downturn. Per Attraction Category November 2015 was a very wet month but also mild and dull. It was the dullest November on record and the third Heritage/historic mildest since records began. Mclean Museum & Art Gallery Preparations for essential maintenance work have curtailed the programme. £9.97 £10.06 Spend per National Museum of Rural Life The total visitor numbers noted here takes into account National Trust visitors and those who only visit the museum café ticket sold (these visitors do not pay for entry). 1.0% p New Lanark Visitor Centre The significant drop in our Visitor Figures from November 2014 to November 2015 can be attributed to the fact that in 2014 we displayed the Great Tapestry of Scotland from 20 October – 21 November. This free exhibition drew in a substantial number of visitors, circa 13 thousand within the 5 week period. Our annual Christmas Experience event opened on 28 November 2015. _________________ 1 Ticket spend per visitor (Ticket SPV) divides the total ticket revenue by the number of visitors from ticket-revenue submitting sites.
