The Associate Degree can be specified in selected areas, e.g. Art & Design, Business Studies, IT etc. This programme is recognised by some of the local and overseas universities for Year 2 of their undergraduate programmes. At present, only 18% of 18 - 20 year olds are provided with full degree places. There are now about 14,500 first year full degree places offered by 8 HE institutions, the same number since 1994-95. In order to meet the Chief Executive's 10 year plan (i.e. to provide 60% of 18 to 20 year olds with access to higher education), an extra 30,600 places for associate degrees will be provided by 2010. In September 2001, about 5,000 places in 2-year and 3-year associate-degree programmes will be offered by 12 institutions. The lowest entry requirement is a pass in at least 1 subject at A-Level and 5 passes in the HKCEE for Form 7 (Upper 6th) graduates. Form 5 (5th form) graduates can do a 1 year Pre-Associate Degree programme. Upon completion of the associate-degree, graduates may top-up their qualification to a degree in either local or overseas universities such as USA, UK, Australia. When considering applications from Associate degree holders, attention should be paid to the entry requirement and duration of the Associate Degree programmes completed since they may vary from programme to programme. It is, therefore, advisable to look closely at the transcripts and the course contents in order to assess the students' abilities. Caritas Francis Hsu College Established in 1985 and became the second Approved Post Secondary College in Hong Kong on 8 August 2001. Currently it offers Associate Degree Programmes, Higher Diploma Programmes, Daytime Topup Bachelor's Degree Programmes, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Chu Hai College A Taiwanese-registered tertiary institution, offering 4-year degree courses which are not recognised by the Hong Kong Government. Evaluation of its standard is difficult as there is no external validation for the courses. Generally the degrees are not regarded as anywhere near a UK standard. However, some British institutions have taken graduates into their masters programmes provided they have demonstrated relevant work experience and good Grade Point Averages (GPAs) as well as an acceptable English level. Hang Seng School of Commerce Associate degree graded on GPA: (HSSC) Full mark – 4, Pass 2 or above, entry to UGC-funded universities in HK – 3 or above. It started taking students in October 1989 and operates an open access policy, whereby those over the age of 18 can enrol without academic qualifications. It offers degree, non-degree and postgraduate programmes. • 1. Introduction
THE UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS Code of Practice on Learning Analytics 1. Introduction Learning Analytics is defined as follows: "the measurement, collection, analysis, and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for the purposes of understanding and optimising learning and the environments in which it occurs." (International Conference on Learning Analytics, 2011). The University of Leeds has adopted this definition for the purposes of this Code of Practice and the Learning Analytics Strategy. The University of Leeds uses learning analytics to enhance taught student education and support student success for registered students. The University will use learning analytics to: (i) support individual learners – through actional intelligence for students, teachers and professional staff; (ii) help understand cohort behaviours and outcomes; (iii) help understand and enhance the learning environment. This means that we will gather and analyse data relating to students’ education and present these in appropriate formats to staff and students, to support students’ learning, progress and well-being. The University recognises that data on their own cannot provide a complete picture of a student’s progress, but provide an indicative picture of progress and likelihood of success. This document sets out the responsibilities for staff, students and the University to ensure that learning analytics is carried out responsibly, transparently, appropriately and effectively, addressing the key legal, ethical and logistical issues which are likely to arise. This not only covers the presentation of learning analytics data to students and staff but also possible use in research projects and management information. It is important to note that the University currently holds and processes the data sources identified in this document.
