Andy Simpson of Crown Point is the recipient of the 2019-20 IHSAA Outstanding Basketball Official Award, an honor he was scheduled to receive a year ago until the pandemic cancelled the state tournament.

Andy has been a licensed basketball official for the past 29 years and is a member of the Lake County Officials Association for which he serves as a Local Association Clinician.

During his career, he’s officiated 26 basketball sectionals, 20 regionals, four (4) semi-states, and one (1) state final. Something Interesting About You Personally or Professionally That People Might Not Know: Daughter Jasye was a member of the 2018 and 2020 Barr-Reeve State Championship Volleyball Teams. My wife owns her own business as a health and fitness coach. I draw a lot of who I am from my parents and growing up in a small town. My father is a paraplegic who was a very good athlete in high school (still holds track records at Bloomfield – graduated in 1977). After suffering through an ambulance wreck working as an EMT in 1981, he began competing in wheelchair track and basketball. He once wheeled 60 miles (over two days) from Bloomington IU Hospital to Methodist (Indy), in his wheelchair, to raise money for guys who were less fortunate than him, who were in need of money to pay for wheelchairs (event was called “Marathon for Wheels”).
