Medan, September 2020 Penulis Denny Setyo Wiguna i Universitas Sumatera Utara ABSTRACT Denny Setyo Wiguna, 2020, Social Interaction of Javanese in Berastagi, Berastagi District, Karo District, which consists of 5 Chapters, 100 sheets, 12 pictures, 5 tables. This thesis, entitled Social Interaction of Javanese in Berastagi, Berastagi District, Karo Regency, aims to find out how Javanese interaction occurs in Berastagi with the Karo tribe community in the city of Berastagi, Berastagi District, Karo District. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. To obtain valid research data, the authors used observation and interview techniques. The parties interviewed by the writer are the head of the Berastagi subdistrict, community leaders, local residents who belong to the Javanese tribe, local residents who belong to the Karo tribe, village heads and the general public who are the actors in this study. All that can not be done easily without building rapport (good relations) to the informants interviewed by the author. The results of this study indicate that Javanese social interaction in Berastagi City where Javanese are migrants can interact with the Karo people despite the many cultural differences in the two tribes. However, the interaction of the two does not mean continuing to produce positive things, sometimes negative ones. This is because not all local communities, the Karo people, can accept migrants, Javanese. Cultural differences are the cause of this, where each individual has a view of ethnocentrism with foreign cultures that are different from the customs of their ancestors. From the results of the study showed social interaction in Berastagi, influenced by several factors. Namely religious factors, economic factors, cultural factors, and artistic factors. Each factor has a different pattern of interaction, so to be able to know this approach is carried out so that the reasons for the Karo ethnic group want to do social interaction with the outside community. Keywords: Social interactions ii Universitas Sumatera Utara ABSTRAK Denny Setyo Wiguna, 2020, Interaksi Sosial Suku Jawa Di Berastagi, Kecamatan Berastagi, Kabupaten Karo yang mana skripsi ini terdiri dari 5 Bab, 100 lembar, 12 gambar, 5 tabel. 31 Architecture in an Expanded Field, from Interiors to Landscapes Unconventional_Structures: Toroidal Plume JORGE ADAN ITUARTE-ARREOLA RYAN LEE THOMAS Texas Tech University United States Army National Guard The ever-shifting surface of the earth creates a plethora of effects on territories, climate, and territorial ecosystems. Of these effects, no hemispheric region appears as catastrophi- cally consistent in terms of natural disasters, than that of the Asia-Pacific. Geographically speaking, the country of Indonesia happens to receive the blunt of Earth’s natural forces, given that it resides in the belt of shifting tectonic plates known as the Ring of Fire, whose proximal circumstances make it highly susceptible to seismic and volcanic activity. To fully understand the risk of these circumstances, and their scope in terms of the ecologies they affect, analysis was enacted through critical cartography. Part of this effort involved instructing local people on how to map their region using Open Source Data, as a means of progressive local agency. This locally-revised data served as a mechanism to understand how people react to natural disas- ters; how they travel, urbanize, operate, and evacuate. The area of study consisted of Mount Sinabung, a recently active stratovolcano, and its neighboring territories in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Through exploration and analysis based on the volcano’s risk and effects, we sought to resolve the most ailing issue this region is succumb to. Ash. Airborne ash proved to be the largest concern in regards to the volcano, causing respiratory damages, infections, and death to the people living there. Volcanic ash has proven beneficial for the surrounding agriculture, in the soil, and can also be utilized as a binding agent in concrete production.
