  • The Crassulaceae List
THE CRASSULACEAE LIST by Marco Cristini This list is almost completely based upon Eggli's Illustrated Handbook of Succulent Plants: Crassulaceae (Springer Verlag, 2003). The only important point of distinction is the genus Petrosedum, which here, following Ray Stephenson (Sedum Society Newslwtter 82) and the International Crassulaceae Network (http://www.crassulaceae.ch), is not considered part of the genus Sedum. In this work there are also a few Crassulaceae species described after the publication of Eggli's Lexicon. I have found their records in the Repertorium Plantarum Succulentarum (I have examined the issue LIII-LXI), on the Internet or in magazines devoted to Succulents. I hope I've not missed too many species! ADROMISCHUS Adromischus alstonii (Schönland & Baker) C. A. After an extended seven-year drought, with the first four years the driest on record, this year's abundant rains have been more than welcome. Our founders, James and Marcia Hodges started San Marcos Growers in 1979, shortly after the two-year drought that was the impetus for the founding of Xeriscape, an organization that actively promoted the sensible use of plants suitable to our mediterranean climate. We continue our commitment to growing such plants, and this year have added 128 new varieties to this catalog. We issue this anniversary catalog with grateful thanks to our many dedicated customers who have purchased plants from us over the last 4 decades, and we very much look forward to continuing to serve you all as we head into our fifth decade. Help us celebrate our 40th year anniversary as we work to make 2019 another excellent year for horticulture! • Succulent Plants in Our 2011 Catalog
Toll Free: 800.438.7199 Fax: 805.964.1329 Local: 805.683.1561 Web: www.smgrowers.com On facebook.com/SanMarcosGrowers Since 1979, when San Marcos Growers first began, we have always strived to provide California's independent retail garden centers and landscape professionals with well grown, high quality plants, that are appropriate to California's mediterranean climate. After thirty two years, this still remains our primary goal. Others may be focusing elsewhere, but we remain firmly committed to the independent retailers and landscape professionals that have long been loyal to us. We thank our customers for their continued business and offer them this 2011 catalog with many exciting new plants, but no overall price increases. We also remain committed to the fact that water remains a precious and limited commodity. To this end we continue to expand our line of water conserving succulents and plants from mediterranean climates, including many from our own California flora. This catalog has 145 new plants, which are all listed at the back of this catalog and are accompanied within the catalog body with a star ( ). Of these new plants, 56 are succulents, bringing the total number of succulents we now grow to 379, and 29 are California native plants, bringing our total of native plants to 156. We also are proud to offer 9 new plants from the UC Santa Cruz Koala Blooms Australian Native Plant program and so now are growing 29 great plants from this program and bringing to 190 the total number of different Australian plants that we currently grow.

Toll Free: (800) 438-7199 Fax: (805) 964-1329 Local: (805) 683-1561 Web: www.smgrowers.com We celebrated our 30th year as a nursery last year and now start the climb towards our next decade in business in a year that has seen good rainfall and the promise of a strengthening economy. To do our part to stimulate an economic boom, we are, for the second year in row, releasing an annual catalog that offers our customers many new plants but no overall price increases. Having received the winter rains, we look forward to a glorious spring full of wildflowers but must remember that California's water resources are still stretched thin and that we must not return to water wasting gardening practices of the past. The sustainability of our beautiful landscapes will still depend on making the appropriate plant choices. To this end, this year we have again added to our ever increasing palette of plants that do well within our mediterranean climate, with little or no supplemental irrigation. This includes the addition of many new succulent plants. Of the 118 new plants added this year, nearly half are succulents in such familiar genera as Aeonium, Agave, Aloe, Crassula, Echeveria, Sedum and Senecio. We have also expanded our line of plants from mediterranean climate regions and in particular those that are California native plants. In an effort to further promote our native plant offerings, we are working with Carol Bornstein, author and native plant authority, on new descriptive pages about California native plants for our website; these pages can be easily accessed by clicking on the new "Go Native" link from our home page.
