Again the lead wouldn’t last long, as Jonny DeLuca and Eddys Leonard both launched solo shots in the Inland Empire 12 13 .480 1 bottom of the fourth inning to give the Quakes their first lead of the game. The biggest swing of the game came in the top of the fifth Lake Elsinore 11 15 .423 2.5 inning, as Jeremiah Jackson blasted a go-ahead three-run home run to put the Inland Empire up 5-3. It was Jackson’s fifth homer of Visalia 6 20 .231 7.5 the season, and it was the fifth home run hit in this game. Rancho had a chance to regain the lead in the sixth inning, as they loaded the bases with just one out, but a double-play ended their chances. Both teams plated one more run down the stretch of the game, and Inland draws even in the series with a game won by each team so far. Only one game separates these two teams in the standings now, TODAY as the South Division is looking like a close three-horse race after a month of play. Modesto at San Jose, 6:30 PM HOME RUNS HURT: Both teams combined for 16 hits in this game, each team totaling eight of them. However, it was the home Inland Empire at Rancho Cucamonga,6:30 PM runs that ruled this contest, as five were blasted in the contest last night. In the first two games, Inland Empire has scored all of their Visalia at Fresno, 6:50 PM runs by way of the home run. Rancho hit a pair of home runs themselves, but with nobody on base, the Quakes fell short. Gavin Stone went 3.2 innings in his last start and allowed just a single run on just four hits. Stone made the opening day start for Rancho down at San Manuel Stadium against Inland Empire, where Stone went three innings and allowed just a single hit and racked CAL LEAGUE SCOREBOARD up six punch-outs. Gavin Stone was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2020 Draft out of the University of Yesterday Central Arkansas. Stone is looking for his first win of his season in a Quakes uniform. RYAN SMITH: The Inland Empire 66ers are sending another starter to the mound in game three of the series sporting a very impressive Modesto 10, San Jose 5 ERA. Ryan Smith has registered just a 1.66 ERA over 21.2 innings and has tallied a pair of wins on the season already. The left-hander was Inland Empire 6, Rancho Cucamonga 4 drafted in the 18th round out of Princeton University. He has registered 37 strikeouts while walking only six batters to date. In his last start Fresno 4, Visalia 3 against the Fresno Grizzlies, Smith went 6.1 innings and allowed just a single run. However, Smith was saddled with the loss in that contest, Stockton 5, Lake Elsinore 4 and will look to rebound today. AROUND THE FARM: It was a good day for the rest of the Dodgers affiliates, and the Dodgers themselves. The Great Lakes Loons got their 13th win of the season and have reached a .500 record, as they won a close 5-4 contest against the West Michigan Whitecaps. 2021 QUAKES AT A GLANCE The Tulsa Drillers took a win last night in a big way over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Tulsa tallied nine runs on 11 hits as they 1st Half Record: cruised to a 9-1 win on the road. Up in AAA, the Oklahoma City Dodgers had the day off, but will be starting a series today at home 13-12 against the 17-6 Houston Astros affiliate Sugar Land Skeeters. The Dodgers were in action last night, as they hammered their way to a vs Inland Empire: 4-3 14-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers were aided by an 11-run first inning, with Cody Bellinger blasting a grand slam vs IE Home 1-1 and totaling 6-RBIs on his own in just the first frame. Walker Buehler got the win, as well as a two-RBI double. The Dodgers will have vs IE Road 3-2 the day off today, before starting a series against the Atlanta Braves of the NL East on Friday. Crews utilized a rope rescue system to access and haul the patient from the rock face.     STMAinaction STMA Northwest Regional Conference features top sports turf professionals EATTLE HOSTED some sports turf VIPs July 21-22 as the Sports Turf Managers Association partnered with the Intermountain, SNorthern California, Oregon, and Pacific Northwest chapters to produce an STMA Northwest Regional Conference that featured sports turf specific education, a trade show, hands-on demonstrations, and tours of some of the city’s major league facilities. The sponsors handed out Seattle Mariner tickets to the more than 175 attendees who enjoyed a beautiful evening at the ballpark while watching the home team beat the Chicago White Sox in extra innings. Attendees earlier that day had walked on the field (outside the lines of course!) while meeting with head groundskeeper Bob Christofferson and his crew during a tour of Safeco Field. Another highlight was a drop-in visit from new Seahawks coach Pete Carroll during the group’s visit to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, the team’s practice facility and office in Renton. Carroll snuck up on an unsuspecting Seahawk fields & grounds manager Sean Vanos as he was leading a tour of the cool site on the shores of huge Lake Washington and told the crowd how much he and his team appreciate the turf care. On another stop the group visited and lunched at Starfire Sports, a non-profit soccer complex in Tukwila, which was most impressive. The facility is open 24/7 and sees action from Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders and every other level imaginable. Here the group had a chance to meet with vendors and their number included several nation- ally known sports turf advocates, including Lynda Wightman of Hunter Industries, Boyd Montgomery of Toro, Christiaan Arends of Barenbrug USA, Jay Warnick of World Class and Charlie Vestal of Turface Athletics.
