The Cove:

The Cove is a nurturing drop-in center for high-school aged youth in the Heart of Texas experiencing homelessness. The Cove provides supportive services in a trauma-informed, culturally competent environment, with a focus on supporting youth through high school graduation. Unaccompanied homeless youth (UHY) are some of Waco's most vulnerable citizens. Young people experiencing housing instability have been shown to be more prone to sexual and emotional abuse, human trafficking, depression, suicide, and substance abuse. However, when young people receive the supports they need, they can graduate high school and face adulthood with the tools they need for self-sufficiency. In the 2020 - 2021 school year, 237 Waco ISD high school students had no place to call home, and 78 were enrolled in school as unaccompanied, meaning they were experiencing homelessness by themselves, not in the care of a parent or legal guardian. Position Description:

The and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) are looking for an experienced, strategic and process-minded leader with experience in scaling an , leading a team, and developing a culture of care, opportunity, value and empowerment within a mission-driven organization. In this role, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) primarily oversees daily operations, , and internal/external communications. The COO will lead the process that measures and delivers results to make The Cove’s strategic plan a reality. The COO brings exceptional capacity for managing and leading people, developing and scaling proven systems to execute strategic initiatives, strong planning and organizational capacity and communicating the branded message internally and externally. The COO will be the critical bridge between the side of operating a successful top tier not-for-profit and the successful execution of the organizational mission. The COO will consistently make independent decisions through analysis, wisdom, experience and good judgment.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm (with flexibility)

Education/Certification:

● Master’s Degree in business or nonprofit management from an accredited university with three years of supervisory and leadership experience OR ● Bachelor’s Degree in business or nonprofit management from an accredited university with five years of supervisory and leadership experience

Special Knowledge/Skills:

● Broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic process development and planning, budgeting, technology, human resources, fundraising, programming and marketing

1. Operations (45%) a. Serve as the internal leader of the organization and provide for all staff a day-to-day leadership presence b. In the absence of the CEO, would serve as the backup to CEO functions c. Design and execute the performance management process that measures and evaluates organizational progress toward the strategic plan d. Track, analyze and report progress of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) e. Balance the delivery of programs within budget, using independent problem solving, and creative resourcefulness f. Develop and maintain organizational and operational policies and procedures g. Oversee technical and equipment needs h. Participate with Board-related activities and manage board cycles, assist the CEO and board with board member recruitment i. Budget and strategic planning activities j. Provide resources and oversight for managing financial and system controls

2. Human Resources Management (25%) a. Effectively build organization and staff capacity through professional development and training b. Oversee and execute Race, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) strategy c. Serve as liaison to the Human Relations Board Committee d. Administrate staff scheduling and internal communications e. Lead internal communications and core process mapping f. Oversee and manage personnel records, issues, employee performance and benefits programs across the organization g. Maintain direct management and supervisory responsibility for staff member(s)

3. Communications (25%) a. Create and execute marketing and communications strategies including website, social media, print and electronic campaigns b. Assist the CEO in donor stewardship c. Prepare press releases as needed d. Track, maintain and communicate organizational activities, calendars, coverage, and scheduling
