In 2010, College of the Siskiyous was recognized by BestCollegesOnline.com as one of the Top 10 Most Beautiful Community Colleges in America. In 2015, COS was recognized as one of the Top 15 California Community Colleges by EDsmart.org. A year later, for the second year in a row, College of the Siskiyous was again on the list of the Top 15 California Community Colleges for 2016 as recognized by EDsmart.org. Today, in March 2021, our Nursing Program is recognized as having one of The Best 15 Licensed Vocational Nursing Programs in California by BestValueSchools.org. All nursing programs include traditional classroom experiences, lab work, and a supervised clinical practicum where students can apply nursing theoretical knowledge to real-world nursing situations. And if you are a nursing student searching for the correct-fitting and within- budget programs, the good news is that California offers some of the best Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) program options and College of the Siskiyous is one of them. At College of the Siskiyous, students interested in a Nursing career have several options to choose from. The COS Nursing Department offers Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Vocational Nursing (LVN), and LVN to RN Step Up programs. Since 1970, College of the Siskiyous has trained thousands of students to become nursing professionals. Our faculty and staff have diligently worked to build a positive rapport with local and regional hospitals and health care agencies. All nursing programs in California are required to publicly disclose the pass-rates for their students who have taken the NCLEX- PN. The College of the Siskiyous LVN pass rate for the NCLEX is 100% (2019). All nursing programs in California are board-approved programs that ensures each programs graduates meet the state’s minimum licensing requirements. For the LVN program, this includes 954 clinical hours of education and 576 hours of theoretical education, for a total of 1,530 hours of education prior to taking the NCLEX-PN national exam. The Best 15 Licensed Vocational Nursing Programs in California list also includes Mira Costa College, Riverside City College, Citrus College, Sacramento City College, Copper Mountain College, Allan Hancock College, North-West College (NWC) (Several Locations in Greater Los Angeles Locations), the College of Nursing & Technology, Annenberg School of Nursing, Marian College (Van Nuys, & Los Angeles Campuses), Integrity College of Health, Xavier College of Nursing (Xavier), Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts (GAMA), and Stanbridge University. Registration for 2021 summer session and fall semester classes at College of the Siskiyous will begin May 3. The Nursing Program will offer Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) during the summer session beginning June 11. An orientation will be held May 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. on Zoom. Becoming a CNA is a great way to determine if becoming an LVN is right for you. “The faculty, staff, and I want to thank the community for their continued support of our Nursing Programs,” said Rhonda Brown, Interim Director of Nursing at College of the Siskiyous. “The Pandemic has been especially challenging for all of us. The students have persevered the disappointment of having to shut down the class last spring. Then regrouping to retake their first semester coursework and clinical training with multiple layers of protocols and the threat of the virus disrupting their education again. We are so very proud of this group of LVN students. We heart fully thank our clinical partners, Fairchild Medical Center, Mercy Mt. Shasta, Shasta View Estates, Shady Creek Children’s Center, and Shasta Cascade Clinics for making the past two semesters possible. I personally want to recognize our dedicated faculty for the heroic efforts and sacrifices they have made during this Pandemic.
