After having been permanently banned from Twitter, Loomer moved over to free speech social media platform Parler, and not only brought her followers with her, but has now exceeded the amount of followers she had “pre-ban” on Twitter in 2018. Join Our Newsletter Enter your email Subscribe Privacy - Terms FOLLOW ME ON PARLER! FOLLOW ME ON T ELEGRAM! Loomer announced the landmark achievement Wednesday in a post on Parler: “I just became the first deplatformed person to exceed my Pre-Ban Twitter following here on @parler. When I was banned, people on the Left and Right cheered on the digital extermination of my persona. They said my career was over. FOREVER. Yet, here I am. SUBSCRIBE T O MY YOUT UBE CHANNEL Through my historic and unprecedented Congressional race in Florida’s 21st Congressional District, I am proving everyone wrong while making history. I’m on a mission to CANCEL CANCEL CULTURE and get elected to the United States Congress to ensure that no other American citizen is ever silenced the way I’ve been silenced. Together, we can and will make history. Together, we will defy all odds and we will #StopTheBias!” NEW! LAURA FAN FIC NOVEL Brain Almon, with The National Pulse explained Wednesday, “Despite gaining more than 260,000 followers on Twitter, the social media platform banned Loomer in 2018 after she criticized Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar. In an apparent double standard, Representative Omar routinely makes derogatory comments about Jews and white people yet enjoys full access to her own Twitter account.” Since moving to Parler, Loomer has continued the fight against Big Tech censorship. “The American people don’t like being told what they can and can’t say. As a result, my campaign is appealing to not only constituents in FL-21, but to Americans in all 50 states who have donated to my campaign and are now watching my race in anticipation to see if the most banned woman in the world can get elected to the US Congress while being universally deplatformed,” Loomer told Almon. On Tuesday, Loomer stressed the importance of not only Conservatives migrating to Parler, but urged President Trump to follow in the footsteps of his Trump 2020 Team, and also join the free speech alternative social media platform before “Twitter’s grand finale,” banning the president right before the election in November. In a post on Parler Tuesday, Loomer wrote, “I told you Twitter was going to ban all of the top MAGA accounts as we got closer to Election Day. Twitter’s grand finale ban will be President Trump. And Twitter is going to ban President Trump right before the election in November. Mark my word they will suspend or permanently BAN his account IN THE MIDDLE OF THE US ELECTION. And then what? There will be no remedy. This is why President Trump really needs to get on Parler and Gab ASAP before Silicon Valley literally steals the election for the Democrats. They are actively doing it in front of your face and have been for several years, and now it couldn’t be more obvious! Trump can take the kill shot against Twitter before they ban him. All he needs to do is get on Parler and Gab. Time is of the absolute essence. I did my best to warn you all! #StopTheBias #Twexit“ Loomer is right, time IS of the essence. With the presidential election quickly approaching, and Twitter’s recent ramping up of censorship against President Trump, he should consider using Parler primarily as a way to continue to communicate with American voters. If President Trump were to move to Parler today, millions upon millions of Twitter users currently following the president would make the switch with him and continue to support and promote him. Laura Loomer is proof that it’s possible to continue interacting with supporters, but without dealing with the Big Tech overlords, their censorship, or their ever-changing biased Terms of Service policies. We recently reported on Parler’s pledge to never censor their users or political ads on the platform, regardless of political party. In a post Tuesday on Parler, the social media platform’s Strategic Investor Jeffrey Wernick said, “In keeping with its mission to be a true Public Square, not an agenda driven publisher, Parler will curate and circulate any ads from legitimate campaigns and allow voters to evaluate the candidates for themselves.” “Parler is resolute in our commitment to free speech. Campaigns will be able to present their material free from censorship, and our community will watch, listen, debate, challenge, refute or validate as they see fit without authoritarian meddling,” Wernick added. It is worth noting that Loomer was one of the first people to ever join Parler, and her Congressional campaign was the first federal campaign in the United States to have a Parler account. In a press release, Loomer announced that she is the face of the TWEXIT movement to get conservatives to get off Twitter and onto Parler. As a congressional candidate, Loomer is the only deplatformed candidate in the nation. When she announced her run for Congress, both Facebook and Twitter created new rules to deny Loomer’s campaign equal access to social media. Loomer’s campaign has filed an FEC complaint against Twitter for giving illegal in kind contributions to Loomer’s Democrat opponent, Lois Frankel. Journal of Social Justice, Vol. 9, 2019 (© 2019) ISSN: 2164-7100 Looking Left at Antisemitism Spencer Sunshine* The question of antisemitism inside of the Left—referred to as “left antisemitism”—is a stubborn and persistent problem. And while the Right exaggerates both its depth and scope, the Left has repeatedly refused to face the issue. It is entangled in scandals about antisemitism at an increasing rate. On the Western Left, some antisemitism manifests in the form of conspiracy theories, but there is also a hegemonic refusal to acknowledge antisemitism’s existence and presence. This, in turn, is part of a larger refusal to deal with Jewish issues in general, or to engage with the Jewish community as a real entity. Debates around left antisemitism have risen in tandem with the spread of anti-Zionism inside of the Left, especially since the Second Intifada. Anti-Zionism is not, by itself, antisemitism. One can call for the Right of Return, as well as dissolving Israel as a Jewish state, without being antisemitic. But there is a Venn diagram between anti- Zionism and antisemitism, and the overlap is both significant and has many shades of grey to it. One of the main reasons the Left can’t acknowledge problems with antisemitism is that Jews persistently trouble categories, and the Left would have to rethink many things—including how it approaches anti- imperialism, nationalism of the oppressed, anti-Zionism, identity politics, populism, conspiracy theories, and critiques of finance capital—if it was to truly struggle with the question. The Left understands that white supremacy isn’t just the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis, but that it is part of the fabric of society, and there is no shortcut to unstitching it.

INTRODUCTION Plaintiff Laura Loomer claims that Facebook defamed her by removing her accounts and explaining that she had violated its Dangerous Individuals and Organizations (“DIO”) policy. As Facebook argued in its pending Rule 12(b)(6) motion, Ms. Loomer has not even stated a claim as a matter of law. Now, having failed to conduct any discovery, Ms. Loomer cannot create a genuine issue of material fact to survive Facebook’s motion for summary judgment on all of her claims. Ms. Loomer’s claims were (and remain) prime for dismissal. First, Ms. Loomer has not identified any false or defamatory statements of fact made by Facebook. To the extent she alleges Facebook called her “dangerous” by removing her accounts pursuant to its DIO policy and describing its policy generally in the press, the law is clear that calling someone “dangerous”—or saying that she “promoted” or “engaged” in “hate”—is a protected statement of opinion.

Myers, Maia Ferdman, and Ann Major March 2021 This report is a follow-up to the UCLA Luskin Center for History and Policy report from November 2019 All is Not Well in the Golden State: The Scourge of White Nationalism in Southern California Preface In June 2020, the Luskin Center for History and Policy released a report “All is Not Well in the Golden State: The Scourge of White Nationalism in Southern California.” Produced by a team of undergraduate researchers from UCLA, the report provided extensive background to and mapping of the rise of extreme white nationalist activity in the region and state. Since the release of that report, there has been a marked uptick in white nationalist activity in the national sphere. The tumultuous final month of the Trump presidency, especially prompted by the false claim of a stolen election and culminating in the January 6 Capitol assault, pushed from the margins to the center of public attention a loose coalition of far-right actors, often motivated by conspiracy theories such as QAnon, some of whom are intent on violent insurrection. The highly polarized political climate—and even extremist expressions—have now made their way to college campuses in the United States, including to UCLA.

  • Anti-Muslim Racism in U.S. Politics Amrita Bhattacharyya and Angel Bermudez
Anti-Muslim Racism in U.S. Politics Amrita Bhattacharyya and Angel Bermudez 1. Introduction This report analyzes acts of anti-Muslim racism in U.S. politics. Through gathering various social media posts by political actors as well as other forms of media such as interview clips, this report aims to highlight instances of discrimination against Muslims in the U.S. by prominent political actors. Anti-Muslim racism is a significant problem. According to a poll by Gallup1, more than half of Muslim societies sampled believe that Muslims in the West are not treated as equal citizens. In addition, Gallup found that Islamophobia “increased in frequency and notoriety during the past decade.” This exaggerated fear and hostility toward Muslims perpetuated by negative stereotypes ultimately results in discrimination of Muslims, according to Gallup. Through our research, we have found that anti-Muslim racism by political actors is less blatant in comparison to countries such as Austria. Unlike in Austria where the Freedom Party of Austria collectively pushes anti-Muslim agendas and rhetoric, the situation in the U.S. is that there are few top-level actors actively pushing anti-Muslim racism.2 Rather than a party as a whole engaging in anti-Muslim racism, there are a small amount of top-level actors in the U.S. who behave this way in public. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, current congresswoman, and Donald Trump, former president, seem to be the most vocal proponents of anti-Muslim racism within top-level politics. Although not directly in the realm of government officials, anti-Muslim racism is also advanced by anti-Muslim activists such as Pamela Geller and Laura Loomer, who are both vocal about collectively attacking Muslims.

  • US Extremism on Telegram: Fueling Disinformation, Conspiracy Theories, and Accelerationism by Samantha Walther and Andrew Mccoy
PERSPECTIVES ON TERRORISM Volume 15, Issue 2 US Extremism on Telegram: Fueling Disinformation, Conspiracy Theories, and Accelerationism by Samantha Walther and Andrew McCoy Abstract Several alternative social media platforms have emerged in response to perceptions that mainstream platforms are censoring traditional conservative ideologies. However, many of these alternative social media platforms have evolved to be outlets for hate speech and violent extremism. This study examines hate-based channels on Telegram from a US perspective. While Telegram has often been studied in relation to ISIS, less is known about its usage by US extremist users and movements. The authors used OSINT and observational methods on a sample of 125 Telegram channels containing hate speech and violent extremist content from far-right and far-left perspectives. The authors hypothesized that there would be a greater and growing presence of far-right activity compared to far- left activity due to current migration trends away from mainstream social media by the far-right. The authors also sought to observe the presence of disinformation campaigns, conspiracy theories, and accelerationism on Telegram. This study had four major findings: (1) the findings supported the hypothesis that more channels were host to far- right dialogues, yet there were several far-left channels present, (2) 64.8% of the channels grew in size over a one- week period, (3) 47 of the 125 channels were connected to well-known violent extremist movements or hate groups, and (4) QAnon and the COVID-19 pandemic were the most prominent sources of disinformation and conspiracy theories on Telegram. The findings of this study highlight that alternative social media platforms are a growing environment for a range of hateful ideologies and are aiding the spread of disinformation campaigns.

  • Deplatforming: the Risk of Success
Deplatforming: The Risk of Success From spring 2020 onward, anti-fascists secured a series of victories by calling on social media platforms to remove right- wing online platforms. Although this approach has been successful, under circumstances that will be hard to replicate, it also has deep flaws, and reliance on it tends to reinforce unhealthy top-down dynamics within the left. Let us start, though, with the victories. In a February 2020 article, Shane Burley, one of the sharpest observers of the U.S. right, noted some of the examples that had already taken place. The white nationalist Daily Shoah podcast had been removed from Twitter, Facebook, and the iTunes podcast app. The Daily Stormer, another neo-Nazi website, was banned by the domain registrars GoDaddy, Google, Namecheap, and Cloudflare. And while the personal YouTube account of alt-right figurehead Richard Spencer was “somehow” still trucking, Burley wrote, it was plainly doomed. (Indeed, his page was taken down just four months later.) “Deplatforming,” Burley wrote, “meaning removing certain figures and groups from the mass platforms that they share with the rest of us, was a death sentence for key players in the Alt Right.”1 In June 2020, Unilever announced that it would cease to advertise on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, blaming the prevalence of “divisiveness and hate speech” on these platforms. Over the following weeks, YouTube banned former Klan leader David Duke, while Reddit deleted the user-created board “The Donald.”2 In November 2020, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon called for FBI director Christopher Wray and the infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci to be decapitated and their heads posted outside the White House as a “warning.” In response, Twitter banned Bannon.3 Then, following Trump’s role in summoning his supporters to march on Washington in January 2021, the former president became the highest-profile casualty of deplatforming, losing his Twitter audience of 89 million people.
