The Walking Dead spinoff 'World Beyond' is beyond boring. It's also corny as can be. Nebraska is better known for its corn. Corny and boring. World Beyond, at least in its series premiere, is a snoozefest filled with Apocalypse of the Dead uninteresting characters who will likely appeal more to a younger audience than yours truly. By either criteria, World Beyond is a letdown. The flagship series appealed Apocalypse of the Dead viewers of all ages. Teenagers, young adults, older folk—everyone that got hooked did so because Apocalypse of the Dead the realistic, gritty portrayal of what a zombie apocalypse might look like and the strength of its characters, many of whom are now dead with fans still mourning their departure. World Beyond feels like a show that wants to succeed with a much more specific demographic: Teenagers Apocalypse of the Dead young adults —and specifically those teenagers and young adults who appreciate good wholesome stuff over edgy or grimdark. World Beyond is sappy in ways that The Walking Dead, even at its worst, could never match. only flirted with sappy in its last two abysmal seasons. What were they thinking? Apocalypse of the Dead the rest of Apocalypse of the Dead show make up for this misfire? The Walking Dead opens with a small town southern sheriff getting into a gunfight with armed criminals on the run. He gets shot and then wakes up weeks later in an abandoned hospital in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. The hospital is creepy as hell, and so is the town he emerges into. More sentience. Apocalypse of the Dead to recap: The series premiere of The Walking Dead opens on a gunfight, then moves to a creepy abandoned hospital, then has meeting Morgan for the first time, and ends with Rick trapped in a tank surrounded by zombies in Atlanta. All in one episode! Fear The Walking Dead opens to a heroin addict waking up in a drug den to find that the girl he was with had turned into a zombie and is trying to eat his face. This is right at the very beginning of the apocalypse before anyone knew what was going on. And while the show itself never quite lived up to its promise of showing us the start of the apocalypse in great detail instead jumping ahead for some reason that opening moment is still more compelling than the entirety of the series premiere for World Beyond. Fear had lots of issues in its first couple of seasons, but it was still an entertaining show with a lot Apocalypse of the Dead great characters. Elizabeth Kublek. Kublek is played by Julia Ormond, and is definitely the most interesting and best acted character in World Beyond. In any case, World Beyond opens on what is, by all accounts, a rather tame version of the zombie end-times. The placid suburbia that one might hope for in a real-world zombie apocalypse, but which makes for Apocalypse of the Dead humdrum fare when it comes to television. The flight from the safety of the community comes after a series of revelations. We learn that:. For instance, the episodes is bookended by narration. In front of everyone. Meanwhile, Felix and Huck are an interesting enough pair of security specialists. Felix is the Oliver Queen or Jack Shephard of the show—handsome, with just Apocalypse of the Dead right amount of new beard to make him look rugged but not hide the jawline. Huck is the comic relief. She knows the girls dislike her and continue to do so despite her best efforts to connect with them. So admittedly some of this stuff is interesting. We have four teens—two sisters and two nerdy boys they bring along with Apocalypse of the Dead to head out on their own and track down a mysterious, heavily armed organization that could be literally anywhere. Apocalypse of the Dead is actually a Serbian film released under the name Zone of the Dead ; the first Serbian zombie movie ever. The writing is actually decent. The story flows smoothly from one group of survivors to the next with no trouble and immediately establishes clear voices for all the major players. Characters have a bit of meat to them, there are some good lines, and all the plot threads come together in a ludicrously violent finale. The movie shifts tonally to an action film in the finale, but it works by embracing some over the top violence. Once you see a religious crusader mow down zombie children with twin sub machine guns, the movie goes for some absurd action humor. The survivors even Apocalypse of the Dead the possibility of seeking shelter in a shopping mall, only for Foree to tell them that he knows the dead would still get in. The references walk the line between cute fan service and annoying pleas for fan love, but they still earn a laugh. Apocalypse of the Dead becomes that kind of Howard Apocalypse of the Dead siege movie that Carpenter has made time and time again. The scenario for the movie is highly reminiscent of Assault on Precinct 13with the survivors seeking shelter Apocalypse of the Dead an Apocalypse of the Dead police station. The film focuses on the conflict between people from various backgrounds and a faceless, homogenized horde. Everyone gets to have a character moment while securing entrances and fighting off the undead. The Interpol agents and the unnamed prisoner earn a begrudging respect for one another over the course of the film. These familiar tropes are part of why the movie works despite limits in cast and production value. On a technical level, Apocalypse of the Dead is mostly successful. The action is handled very well for a pair of first time directors. Everything is framed nicely and the camera only has a few missteps. There are lots of shaky cam angels which never hinder the clarity of the action but do get annoying after a while. The gore and makeup effects are great. The zombies have a lot of detail in their graying, decaying skin. There some issues with the audio and dubbed dialogue, but it makes the movie fun in a bad. The cast has some good choices and a few minor misses. Their body language and line delivery illuminate the layers in each character. Their Apocalypse of the Dead is usually stilted and unenthusiastic, and the dubbed performers sound awkward. Apocalypse of the Dead is surprisingly entertaining and filled with genre love. Subscriber Account active since. After 10 seasons, Apocalypse of the Dead characters of " The Walking Dead " can take on just about any zombie army that comes their way. During interviews for the show, Insider asked "The Walking Dead" cast and crew where they would go, what they would do, and their weapon of choice in a zombie apocalypse. Some of them, like Angel Theory and Ryan Hurst, had very serious answers. Others, including Katelyn Nacon and showrunner Angela Kang, don't think they'd last long around real zombies. Keep reading to see how some of your favorites would fare and what they would do if the undead rose up. Daryl Dixon may be a leader in the communities right now, but the actor who plays him isn't interested in fighting any of the dead. Eat coconuts," Reedus told Insider without missing a beat while discussing the show's 10th season in October at PaleyFest. Read more: 'The Walking Dead' star Norman Reedus says he has read Daryl as asexual and even Apocalypse of the Dead fan mail thanking him for it. If the zombie apocalypse happened, I definitely wouldn't be as brave as Judith," Fleming told Insider at Paleyfest. I would probably prepare, get canned food," said Fleming. If she had to choose a weapon to defend herself, Fleming said she'd go with something familiar. I couldn't use a gun because I'm too little," said Fleming. A seasoned veteran who's been on the show since season four, McDermitt suggested a practical weapon that doesn't need reloading is the way to go. I just think some sort of blade or Apocalypse of the Dead would be the best way to go. We'd be totally fine. Make sure it's well fortified and you're good," Apocalypse of the Dead said. You get shot in the head the minute you tried to open the door. I'm not sure. I got to pair up with a group that's much stronger. Read more: 'The Walking Dead' pulled off one of its biggest twists in years and it's a testament to how good the show is again. They don't know that you're there! It's zombie camouflage. For those who aren't familiar, the Whisperer group wears the skin of the dead over their faces. It's kind of gross and intense, but it seems to work for them. Out of everyone Insider spoke with, it seemed like Hurst put some of the most thought into what he would do if the world came to an end. One, like Forrest Gump, you're gonna need a comfortable pair of shoes. Two, you're gonna need layers. Zombies can't fight you if they can't fight through ten layers of clothing. And three, you got to have good teeth. How long are you gonna survive if your teeth are Apocalypse of the Dead out of head? That's a reason Hurst asked about his character Beta having gold teeth on the show as a means of survival. Wearing the skin of the dead over your face sounds like a strange survival tactic, but Hurst sees a Apocalypse of the Dead benefit if the undead act just like the ones we're used to on "TWD. Fighting takes energy! Just walk slow, talk low. Blend in. Look, these zombies are going nowhere in a hurry. Just let everybody calm down. Of course, that strategy may not work out if real-life zombies are a bit more rabid and smarter like some of the ones introduced in "Zombieland: Double Tap. Read more: 'Fear TWD' had a huge hint about Beta's mysterious identity hiding in plain sight and 'Walking Dead' fans think they've already solved who he was before the zombie apocalypse. And so yeah, I'd head to Fort McPherson. The Kingdom is the fictional Apocalypse of the Dead Payton's character oversaw on "The Walking Dead" until his community was forced to leave near the end of season nine. For Payton, the area has a deeper meaning than just a place of survival on the show for him and Cooper Andrews, who plays his comrade Jerry. If [there's] one thing I've learned from the show, don't go anywhere near cities. I'm a picky eater! I can't just be eating like rats and stuff," said Nacon. Or I would just live in a treehouse for as long as I can. On the show, Nacon's character, Enid, famously caught and ate a turtle with her bare hands. After thinking about it a little more, Nacon considered traveling on a boat out of Atlanta, Georgia, where she currently resides. You don't really need gas for the boat. You could just idle," Nacon added, feeling better about the boat decision. If it's just you on the boat, you can put as much on there as you can. So no walkers can get in. I'd steal all Apocalypse of the Dead treadmills," Amelio told Insider while discussing his return to the world of "The Walking Dead" last summer. I'm watching movies, I'm hanging out. I'm enjoying myself for a little bit," added Amelio of his Austin, Texas, home. The treadmill plan would probably work until Amelio runs out of power. After that, he would turn to something a bit more practical. You get some length with it, you know, so you get some distance between you and the walker. I don't know how that would look all together but in my head, it looks pretty d awesome," said Angel Theory. She was the only cast member we spoke with wise enough to keep her escape plan to herself. You can't tell everyone the good hiding spots. Read more: One of the most emotional moments on 'The Walking Dead's' season 10 premiere is inspired by a star's progressive hearing loss and a line her mother told her. I would camp out by the beach. I'm going to be there," she added. Since he's currently in California, he said he'd consider getting to Catalina or to the mountains. Catalina is an interesting choice. If you've played the latest installment of zombie survival video game "The Last of Us," some survivors are apparently thriving on Apocalypse of the Dead Island. As for a weapon, he had a few ideas. Quite efficacious. Quite smart," Gimple said. Right now, I think I'm looking at Eastman's stick. That's the prop I think I would be using. By the episode's end, Morgan was inspired to start defending himself against the dead with a carved stick, similar to Eastman. Showrunner Angela Kang has a special ax from Andrew Lincoln, but she doesn't think she'd fare well with the undead. Angel Theory says she's the person to be with if zombies take over. Executive producer and makeup supervisor Greg Nicotero would head to a dentist's office or just make himself up to look like one of the dead.
