Sunderland City Runs Event – Road Closures – Sunday 20 June 2021 Stagecoach Services 3, 4, 10, 11, 13, 16, 20, 23, E1, E2 and E6 On Sunday 20 June, for the Sunderland Half Marathon and 10k events, a large number of roads across the city will be closed to all traffic. Wearmouth Bridge will itself be closed until mid-afternoon, as will a number of roads across the city centre, in Hendon and in Seaburn. Queen Alexandra Bridge will additionally also be closed to all northbound traffic, as part of its bridge maintenance works. Note, the direction of this closure on Queen Alexandra Bridge is in the opposite direction to the standard closure; this is to accommodate the exceptional demands of 20 June, and to reduce conflicting movements at the northern and southern ends of Queen Alexandra Bridge. Due to these many and varied road closures, bus services across the city will be revised or truncated until around mid-afternoon on Sunday 20 June. The revised timetables and routes for Stagecoach services 3, 4, 10, 11, 13, 16, 20, 23, E1, E2 and E6 will be as follows: Services 3 and 13 - From first bus until approximately 4:15pm, buses will operate via normal routes from Hylton Castle and Town End Farm to Southwick Fern Avenue. Buses will then temporarily observe the ‘Shelter Deck’ bus stop (near the western end of King’s Road), before diverting via Church Bank, Queen Alexandra Bridge, Pallion New Road, Trimdon Street, Silksworth Row, St.Michael’s Way, Albion Place, Green Terrace northbound, St. Michael’s Way, then normal route towards Farringdon or Doxford Park. Buses towards Hylton Castle and Town End Farm will be able to operate normal routes to Albion Place, then divert via Green Terrace northbound, St.Michael’s Way, Silksworth Row, Trimdon Street, Pallion New Road, European Way, Paul Watson Way, Northern Spire, Wessington Way, Church Bank, and then temporarily stopping on Fern Avenue opposite Shelter Deck before re-joining normal route and stops. From first bus until approximately 4:15pm, Services 3 and 13 will not be able to serve their normal bus stops on Southwick Road (please note, this also includes Southwick Green), Wheatsheaf, John Street, Fawcett Street, Holmeside or Vine Place in either direction. In the city centre, customers are advised to use the temporary stop on Green Terrace. Service 3 should be able to resume normal routes and timetables at 3:55pm from Hylton Castle and 4:05pm from Fawcett Street. Service 13 should be able to resume normal routes and timetable at 4:05pm from Town End Farm and 3:50pm from Doxford Park. Services 4 and 16 – From around 8:00am until approximately 4:15pm, buses will operate via normal routes from Downhill and Red House to Southwick Beaumont Street. Buses will then temporarily divert via Church Bank, Queen Alexandra Bridge, Pallion New Road, Trimdon Street, Silksworth Row, St.Michael’s Way, Albion Place, Green Terrace northbound, St. Michael’s Way, and then normal routes towards Doxford Park or Hastings Hill. Buses towards Downhill and Red House will be able to operate normal routes to Albion Place, then divert via Green Terrace northbound, St.Michael’s Way, Silksworth Row, Trimdon Street, Pallion New Road, European Way, Paul Watson Way, Northern Spire, Wessington Way, Church Bank, and then normal stops from Beaumont Street. From 8:00am until approximately 4:15pm, Services 4 and 16 will not be able to serve their normal bus stops along Southwick Road, Wheatsheaf, John Street, Fawcett Street, Holmeside or Vine Place in either direction. In the city centre, customers are advised to use the temporary stop on Green Terrace. Service 4 should be able to resume normal routes and timetables at 4:18pm from Downhill and 4:06pm from Doxford Park. Service 16 should be able to resume normal routes and timetable at 4:36pm from Red House Estate and 4:20pm from Hastings Hill. Please note, early morning trips on Services 4 and 16 (before 8:00am) should be able to follow normal routes and stops. Services 10, 11 - From first bus until approximately 1:45pm, buses will not be able to serve Hendon, Grangetown or Hillview. Until approximately 1:45pm, buses will operate from Quarry View via normal routes as far as St.Michael’s Way and Albion Place to Green Terrace northbound, at which point they will terminate. Buses towards Quarry View will also commence from Green Terrace. During affected times, buses will not be able to serve Holmeside, Vine Place, Borough Road or the Hendon, Grangetown or Hill View areas. In the city centre, customers are advised to use the stop on Green Terrace. Service 10 should be able to resume normal journeys commencing with the 1:28pm from Pennywell Quarry View and 1:42pm from Grangetown. Service 11 should be able to resume normal service commencing with the 1:45pm from Pennywell Quarry View and 2:05pm from Grangetown. Service 20 - From around 7:45am until approximately 3:50pm, buses will terminate on Green Terrace northbound. From around 5:45pm until approximately 3:50pm, Service 20 will not serve Fawcett Street, Burdon Road or Holmeside. In the city centre, customers are advised to use the stop on Green Terrace. Service 20 should be able to resume normal service commencing with the 3:41pm from Pennywell and the 3:56pm from Fawcett Street. Please note, early morning trips on Service 20 (before 7:45am) should be able to follow normal routes and stops. Service 23 - From first bus until approximately 5:30pm, buses will only run between Thorney Close and City Centre. Buses towards Thorney Close will also exceptionally commence from Green Terrace. Until 5:08pm, Service 23 will not be able to serve Holmeside, Vine Place, John Street, Fawcett Street, Athenaeum Street, or the Dene Estate, Fulwell, Roker and Wheatsheaf areas. Service 23 should be able to resume normal cross city services with the 5:08pm from Thorney Close and the 5:32pm from Dene Estate. Services E1, E2 and E6 - From around 8:00am until approximately 4:30pm, buses will divert as follows: Service E1 - will operate via normal route to Whitburn Road, then will divert via Seaburn Terrace, Sea Lane, Park Avenue, Roker Baths Road, Fulwell Road Link Road, Church Street North, Dundas Street, at which point the service will terminate. Services towards South Shields will commence from Roker Avenue, and will operate via Fulwell Road Link Road, Roker Baths Road, Park Avenue, Sea Lane, Seaburn Terrace, Whitburn Road, then normal routes. Service E1 should be able to resume normal service commencing with the 3:37pm from South Shields and 4:24pm from Sunderland Fawcett Street. Service E2 - will operate via normal route to Wheatsheaf Newcastle Road Tesco, at which point the service will terminate. Services towards South Shields will commence from Newcastle Road Roseberry Street. Service E2 should be able to resume normal service commencing with the 3:31pm from South Shields and 4:31pm from Sunderland Fawcett Street. Please note, early morning trips on Service E2 (before 7:45am) should be able to follow normal routes and stops. Service E6 - will operate via normal route to Dundas Street, at which point the service will terminate. Services towards South Shields will commence from Roker Avenue. Service E6 should be able to resume normal service commencing with the 3:49pm from South Shields and 4:42pm from Sunderland Fawcett Street. These routes and timings may be subject to additional road closures or amendments on the day due to instructions from the police or designated event marshalls. Due to their dynamic nature, these changes will not be reflected in the journey planner.
