The list comprises 116 species of Noctuidae (26.4% of the Polish fauna), 116 species of Geometridae (28.4% of the Polish fauna) and 63 species of other Macrolepidoptera representatives (27.9% of the Polish fauna). The remaining 123 species were represented by Microlepidoptera. Nearly 10% of the species were associated with wetland habitats, what constitutes a surprisingly large proportion in such an urbanised area. Comparing the obtained data with previous studies concerning Polish urban fauna of Lepidoptera, the moths assemblages in the Botanical Garden were the most similar to the one from the Natolin Forest Reserve which protects the legacy of Mazovian forests. Several recorded moths appertain to locally and rarely encountered species, as Stegania cararia, Melanthia procellata, Pasiphila chloerata, Eupithecia haworthiata, Horisme corticata, Xylomoia graminea, Polychrysia moneta. In the light of the conducted studies, the Botanical Garden in Lublin stands out as quite high biodiversity and can be regarded as a refuge for moths within the urban limits of Lublin. -

Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity, Department of Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523 Abstract A list of 1531 species ofLepidoptera is presented, collected over 15 years (1988 to 2002), in eleven southern West Virginia counties. A variety of collecting methods was used, including netting, light attracting, light trapping and pheromone trapping. The specimens were identified by the currently available pictorial sources and determination keys. Many were also sent to specialists for confirmation or identification. The majority of the data was from Kanawha County, reflecting the area of more intensive sampling effort by the senior author. Accepted: May 21, 2004) ABSTRACT Pollen grains of 9 species of the genus Plantago (Plantaginaceae), including 8 taxa native to Poland, were ob- served under a light microscope and a scanning electron microscope. Descriptions of grain sculpture are illustra- ted only SEM micrographs. The studied pollen grains were medium-sized or small, spherical or prolate spheroi- dal. Their sculpture was always verrucate with granulation. In the studied taxa, internal apertures had the form of pores. Their number ranged from (4)5-9(14). The pores were scattered on the surface of pollen grains. Identifica- tion features of individual taxa include: presence or absence of an annulus around each pore, annulus structure, ornamentation of the pollen grain and operculum, type of aperture membrane, number of internal pores, and pore diameter. We suggest that two new pollen grain types, characteristic of P. intermedia and P. arenaria, should be distinguished, and that P. alpina should be assigned to the P. coronopus type. Exposure to airborne pollen from certain plants can cause allergic disease, but allergens can also be found in non‑pollen‑bearing fractions of ambient air. This may explain why the allergic response in susceptible patients does not always coincide with the presence and magnitude of airborne pollen counts. Plantago pollen is an important cause of pollinosis in northern Mediterranean countries, but it is difficult to determine its incidence in allergies because Plantago pollen appears in the atmosphere at the same time as grass pollen. Objective. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between the atmospheric concentration of Pla l 1 aeroallergen and Plantago pollen, and its incidence in a population group. Materials and method. Pollen was sampled using a Hirst‑type volumetric trap (Burkard™) and Burkard Cyclone sampler (Burkard™) for Pla l 1 allergen. -

To the fauna of Pyralid and Crambid moths (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae, Crambidae) of Rostov-on-Don Province. SUMMARY. Since 1978, during day- and night-time moth monitoring in Rostov-on-Don Province, 5397 ex. of 137 species Pyralidae and Crambidae were collected in 36 localities. Preliminary studies of S.N. Alpheraky [Алфера- ки, 1876] represented 63 species. The total list now includes 157 species of both families. Two species of Pyralidae (Phycitinae), Pempelia amoenella (Zeller, 1848) and Metallosticha argyrogrammos (Zeller, 1847), re reported from Russia for the first time. The most common and mass species are: Nomophila noctuella ([Den. & Schiff.]), Etiella zinckenella (Tr.), Aporodes floralis (Hb.), Euchromius ocellea (Hw.), Actenia brunnealis (Tr.), Homoeosoma nimbella (Dup.), Mecyna flavalis ([Den. & Schiff.]), Synaphe moldavica (Esp.), Pediasia luteella ([Den. & Schiff.]), Lamoria anella ([Den. & Schiff.]), Endotricha flammealis ([Den. & Schiff.]), Parapoynx stratiotata (L.), Hypsopygia costalis (F.), Calamotropha paludella (Hb.), Thisanotia chrysonuchella (Scop.), Agriphila tristella ([Den. & Schiff.]). Введение Для Ростовской области известен единственный список огнёвок, включающий 63 вида [Ал- фераки, 1876], причем часть указаний нуждается в уточнении. A total of 173 species is reported here, comprising 97 Crambidae and 76 Pyralidae. Based upon published data, 29 species appear to be new to the fauna of Serbia, 5 species are new to the fauna of Macedonia and 37 are new to the fauna of Albania. The data are discussed. Obwohl zuerst vor allem Großschmetterlinge interessant erschienen, wurden doch von Anfang an Belege von Kleinschmetterlingen mitgesammclt, so dass über die Jahre einige Tausend „Micro-Belege" zusammengekommen sind. Vor allem die geringe Zahl von Bearbeitern, der dadurch geringe Durchforschungsgrad, die Möglichkeit also, Neues für Bayern zu entdecken, waren der Anreiz, sich intensiver mit den Kleinschmettcrlingen zu befassen. PRÖSE, SEGERER & KOLBECK (2003) beklagen die mittlerweile zum Erliegen gekommene Forschung in den bayerischen Kalkalpen. Um diese Lücke wenigstens Für die östlichen bayerischen Alpen zu schließen, soll in loser Folge über interessante Nachweise vor allem aus den Landkreisen Traunstein und Berchtesgadener Land berichtet werden. Den Anfang machen die Zünsler mit den beiden Familien Pyralidae (Echte Zünsler) und Crambidae (Graszünsler). Laut PRÖSE & SEGERER (1999) sind für Bayern 91 Arten aus der Familie der Pyralidae und 158 Arten aus der Familie der Crambidae gemeldet. GAEDIKE & HEINICKE (1999) geben für beide Familien zusammen insgesamt 274 Arten für Deutschland an. Der Autor konnte aus den beiden oben genannten Landkreisen bisher immerhin 32 Arten der Pyralidae bzw. 85 Arten der Crambidae nachweisen (fast 50% der aus Bayern bekannten „Zünsler").
