  • Fight AES Fines, PAS's Mahfuz Tells Road Users Malaysian Insider
Fight AES fines, PAS’s Mahfuz tells road users Malaysian Insider October 31, 2012 By Ida Lim KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 ― A PAS lawmaker today urged road users not to pay off traffic summonses issued under the federal government’s controversial Automated Enforcement System (AES), saying that they should claim trial to the offences instead. “Now I want to ask, if the government refuses to delay the implementation of the AES and withdraw all summonses issued, everyone who receives the AES summonses don’t need to pay the RM300 compound, instead follow this instruction to go to court...” PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar said at a press conference today. He said that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) was prepared to provide lawyers to represent those who chose to contest the summonses in court. Yesterday, PR said it would suspend approval for the AES’s implementation in the four states of Penang, Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan, to allow for further discussion and public feedback. Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng yesterday said that PR’s move would mean that 331 out of the planned 831 cameras under the nationwide AES scheme will not be installed. The AES cameras, which detects speeding motorists and those who beat traffic lights, is in its pilot phase, with 14 installed in Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya. Today, Umno MP Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin also crossed the political divide today and backed the opposition PR pact in calling for Putrajaya to suspend enforcing the controversial traffic system, saying it could be used as electoral fodder against the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN).

  • 8 Kedah Excos Sworn in for New Term the Malaysian Insider February 28 , 2012 KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28
8 Kedah excos sworn in for new term The Malaysian Insider February 28 , 2012 KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — Eight Kedah state executive councillors (excos) took the oath of office for a new term today at the Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Star, leaving two vacant spots in the state administration led by Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak. They were Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah, Datuk Mohamed Taulan Mat Rasul, Datuk Dr Hamdan Mohamed Khalib, Lim Soo Nee, Abd Ghani Ahmad, Tan Joon Long @ Tan Chow Kang, Datuk Siti Ashah Ghazali and S. Manikumar, state news agency Bernama reported. Conspicuously missing were Kedah PAS deputy commissioner I Datuk Phahrolrazi Zawawi and Kedah PAS deputy commissioner II Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh, who had declined to accept their re-appointments. It has been speculated that Phahrolrazi and Ismail are unhappy with Azizan’s (picture) leadership in relation to various issues that have affected his administration in recent years, and have the support of several other excos. Phahrolrazi, who is reported to be on leave until March 1, previously said he had yet to receive an invitation letter from the state government to attend the swearing-in. “I respectfully inform you that I am rejecting the appointment as Kedah exco,” Phahrolrazi wrote in his letter, specifically mentioning Azizan’s appointment offer made on February 15. The PAS leadership said yesterday it wanted all 10 current Kedah state excos sworn in for the 2012 term, despite Mentri Besar Azizan saying only eight would be reinstated. PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali confirmed rumours that Phahrolrazi and Ismail had declined to accept their re-appointments, but stressed that the matter was only a “technical issue.” He said that PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had met with Azizan as well as the two excos on February 17, where they had explained to him “difficulties” in continuing their duties.

  • Forum `Bukit Cik Tam' Titik Mula Dialog Umno-Pas (BH 21/07/2001)

  • Msian Economic Summit 2018 Brief Prog
Organised by MALAYSIAN ECONOMIC SUMMIT 2018 WHITHER ECONOMIC GROWTH, TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTIVITY 16 OCTOBER 2018 s Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur The Malaysian economy is showing resilience early in the year, with solid manufacturing wage gains and tight labour conditions buttressing the domestic economy, and robust foreign demand supporting exports. Capital expenditure has also increased due to higher private and public investment. Against this backdrop, economic growth is expected to moderate in the first quarter of 2018, a slowdown that will be compounded by rising debt servicing costs and gradual household deleveraging. Nonetheless, a solid outlook for consumer spending, a pick-up in infrastructure investment and a boost ahead of the elections bode well for this year’s GDP forecast. The Malaysian GDP is expected to expand a healthy 5.3% in 2018 and 5.0% in 2019. The recently approved Trans-Pacific Partnership should boost Malaysia’s long-term economic prospects, opening access to new markets. But growth is not all that a country lives on. One pressing issue is that the benefits of this strong growth do not accrue proportionately to all Malaysians. There is substantial dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living, particularly among the bottom 40 per cent of income earners in urban areas. Low-income households are also concerned about car ownership, housing, healthcare and other unavoidable expenditures that cut into household income. The issue of rising healthcare cost and housing costs has placed tremendous pressure on household incomes which has not risen in tandem with the rising cost of living. Both healthcare and affordable housing are long-term issues.

  • PENDANG and ANAK BUKIT MAY GO BN's WAY TOMORROW (Bernama 17/07/2002)
17 JUL 2002 By-elections (News Analysis) PENDANG AND ANAK BUKIT MAY GO BN'S WAY TOMORROW By: Jamaluddin Muhammad ALOR SETAR, July 17 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional, which has been campaigning in opposition strongholds for the past eight days, is expected to make headway in tomorrow's by-elections for Pendang parliamentary and Anak Bukit state seats. PAS is defending both seats while BN is trying to capture what used to be theirs before the 1999 general election. PAS will surely go all out to defend the seats which were held by the late Datuk Fadzil Noor, PAS President and Opposition leaders both in Parliament and Kedah state assembly. "BN has all the reasons to win the Anak Bukit seat now," said seasoned BN campaigner Datuk Abdullah Hasnan Kamaruddin from Kuala Kedah. Mathematically, he said, BN has 8,000 members in Anak Bukit comprising Umno 6,500 members, MCA 2,300 members and MIC 200 members and this coupled with some votes from the estimated 5,000 fence sitters could easily pave the way for BN victory. PAS, on the other hand, has 3,000 members only after shifting some 2,000 of their strong supporters to Kubang Rotan in anticipation for the next general election as a strategy to beat Kubang Rotan state assemblyman Datuk Seri Syed Razak Syed Zain, who is the Kedah Menteri Besar, he said. PAS neither confirmed nor denied the statement on the movement of its voters. PAS candidate for Anak Bukit, Amiruddin Hamzah said in jest: "I don't know. If it is true, then it is good for Datuk Zakaria and bad for the Menteri Besar." Abdullah Hasnan said if 80 per cent or about 15,000 turnout is recorded tomorrow, BN would surely win the seat.

  • PAS Risks Internal Split If It Rejoins BN Malaysiakini.Com July 30, 2014
PAS risks internal split if it rejoins BN MalaysiaKini.com July 30, 2014 YOURSAY 'But once Pakatan breaks in S'gor, it will break nationally.' Leaked PAS message: Team up with Umno in S'gor Quigonbond: A question that must be asked is why PAS is back-paddling on the idea of welfare state instead of hudud. Do they seriously think they can work with a corrupt BN? Whither ideas of justice and fairness in PAS? Why have they suddenly turned into racial-religious bigots? Is it because they did not win as much as they liked in GE13? But don't they realise that even if they join BN, they will still fight over the same pie with Umno? Or is this strictly over Selangor? Even if it is strictly Selangor, they should realise that once Pakatan Rakyat breaks in Selangor, it will break nationally. One's faith is inextricably tied to the other. Perhaps PAS is looking for a breakup. But then the challenge will be how the Erdogans can break the political stranglehold of the conservatives in the party and from there break into the rural hearts and minds in Peninsular Malaysia. They don't have much traction in Sabah and Sarawak - that remains the gauntlet for DAP and PKR. Malaccan: PAS research centre operations director Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki has as good as admitted himself to have no honour nor integrity. He sickeningly explains his bigoted and extremist views about non-Muslims by claiming it was an analysis, and uses distraction in his Umno-like defence.

  • Government Backbenchers Defend Najib for Skipping 'Nothing to Hide' Dialogue Bernama June 8, 2015
Government Backbenchers Defend Najib For Skipping 'Nothing To Hide' Dialogue Bernama June 8, 2015 KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) - The Nothing To Hide' dialogue which should have been attended by prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was a hot topic in parliament as several government backbenchers offered an explanation regarding the controversy. Datuk Seri Noh Omar (BN-Tanjong Karang) said the cancellation of the dialogue also attended by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was fair as there was fear of provocation by certain parties. The former minister said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar should be commended for cancelling the dialogue as it was the best course of action to protect the dignity of the two leaders. "It's a question of dignity, not only the dignity of the prime minister, but also the dignity of a statesman (Dr Mahathir), who should not be made a spectacle. "Thank you for not playing into the hands of the Opposition," he said when debating the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) here, Monday. The dialogue between the prime minister and non-governmental organisations (NGO) was cancelled and postponed to a later date on police orders for safety concerns. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim meanwhile said that he had explained Najib's absence at the dialogue to Dr Mahathir. "The prime minister was ready to go on that day but skipped the event on the order of the inspector-general of police for security reasons. "I was with Tun Mahathir in Kota Kinabalu yesterday for a PERKIM (Malaysian Muslim Welfare Organisation) event and said the same thing.
