1954, Banaras Hindu University, 1954, Buddhist hybrid Sanskrit: language and literature, Franklin Edgerton Buddhist Sanskrit was used as an administrative language in Madhyadesha by Kanishka and his successors. We have come to know through our understanding of Buddhist history that an enormous amount of Buddhist literature was created in Sanskrit, beginning right after the Buddhaâ™s Mahaparinirvana, continuing up to the 12th century AD in India. Out of this vast literature, comprising several thousand texts, only a portion was translated into Tibetan between the 7th and 15th centuries and into Chinese between the 2nd and 11th centuries. An exhaustive history of the Sanskrit Buddhist literature has long been needed. The reasons behind the scarcity of research into Sanskrit Buddhist literature are many. Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit Dictionary. I then resolved to write a short volume on this badly neglected phase of ancient Indian life and ideas. Some later texts like sonic of the avadana literature Jatakamala and Saddharmapundarika betray traces of hybridism. Even in Asvoghosa who writes a more chaste language there are some remnants of the epic and hybrid stage. The Sanskrit language. Read more. Reader. Recommend Documents. HYBRID NANOMATERIALS HYBRID NANOMATERIALS SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION, AND APPLICATIONS Hybrid Buddhist Sanskrit is not Pali, but perhaps an Indo-Aryan dialect currently spoken written with a deliberate addition of Sanskrit words. Hybrid Sanskrit, Pali, and Sanskrit, thus become the major vehicles of Buddhist thought. The prestige attached to Sanskrit and the ever growing numbers of Brahmins entering monasteries would have contributed to acceptance and use of Sanskrit as an important language of theological exposition among Buddhists, whose leader originally wanted them all to use the dialects, the language of common men. Edgerton, Franklin. 1954.
