Origin Eastern China Synonyms Acer trifidum Small to medium size tree that can grow over twice as big in the wild as under cultivation. First has narrow, fan-shaped crown, soon developing to ovoid and later broad ovoid. The dark, grey-brown trunk sometimes has a slightly orange hue and can flake in strips as the tree matures. The leaf is somewhat variable but nearly always has three lobes pointing more or less forward. This is why A. Buergerianum is called the Trident maple. Sometimes used as a street tree, but its main use is as a park or solitary tree. The shiny, dark green leaf has a healthy appearance and can turn yellowish to deep orange-red in autumn. However, this varies from tree to tree and also depends on soil type and local climate conditions. Mature trees are reasonably drought- resistant. © Copyright Boomkwekerij Gebr. Therefore, this policy seeks to update the Recommended Plant Lists by identifying invasive plant species and disease or pest ridden plants for their removal and prohibition from further planting in Howard County and to add other available native plants which have desirable characteristics for street tree or general landscape use for inclusion on the Recommended Plant Lists. The recent wildfires in Oregon came within just a few miles of one of our major suppliers, and that has held things up just a little bit, but we do still expect two massive deliveries of beautiful new trees over the next 6-8 weeks. What initiated this rapid PRA? In 1999 two leafhoppers identified as J. hyalinus were intercepted on Acer palmatum 'Katsura' imported from South Korea. An entry for this species was included on the UK Plant Health Pest Risk Register in 2013 and identified as a priority to update a previous PRA written in 1999 (Fera 2013), in particular to assess its potential establishment given the spread of J. hyalinus across Europe (Mifsud et al. 2010). 3. Trident Maple - Acer Buergerianum
Trident maple - Acer buergerianum General information: This deciduous, 30 to 45-foot-high by 25-foot-wide tree in the wild, has beautiful 3-inch-wide, tri-lobed leaves, glossy green above and paler underneath, which turn various shades of red, orange, and yellow in autumn. Flowers are bright yellow and showy in the spring. Trident Maple naturally exhibits low spreading growth and multiple stems but can be trained to a single trunk and pruned to make it branch higher, allowing passage below its broad, oval to rounded canopy. With its moderate growth rate, attractive orange-brown peeling bark, and easy maintenance, Trident Maple is popular as a patio or street tree and is also highly valued as a bonsai subject. Crown form is often variable and selection of a uniformly-shaped, vigorous cultivar is needed. The trident maple is a very popular species for bonsai, due to its small, three- lobed leaves, a readily-thickening trunk, and thick, gnarly roots which adapt well to root-over-rock style. Family: Aceraceae Lighting: USDA states that this tree will grow in full sun, part sun or part shade. Tomlinson, writing from the UK, believes this maple needs full sun. Simon and Schuster recommends partial shade. Temperature: Although hardy in zones 4B through 9, the trident maple's roots have a high moisture content, and are susceptible to frost damage. This is a potentially fatal problem experienced by members of the Internet Bonsai Club and warned against in almost every book. Tomlinson goes so far as to suggest the substitution of Acer ginnala, the Amur maple, in colder areas.

The chloroplast genome sequence of Nitraria tangutorum, a desert shrub, was sequenced using high-throughput sequencing technology and analysed phylogenetically in the present study. The chloroplast genome is 159,414 bp in length, including a large single copy region of 87,924 bp and small single copy region of 18,318 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat regions of 26,586 bp. The chloroplast genome contains 110 unique genes, including 77 protein-coding genes, four ribosomal RNA genes, and 29 tRNA genes. Most of these genes are present as a single copy and in two or more copies 19 genes occurred. Seventeen genes have one intron, and clpP and ycf3 genes contain two introns. A total of 81 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identiﬁed, most of them were found to be mononucleotide repeats composed of A/T. In addition to SSRs, 66 repeats were identiﬁed, including 41 tandem repeats, 10 palindromic repeats, and 15 forward repeats. The ﬁve plastomes are circular and exhibit a quadripartite structure with high conservation of gene content and order. They include 130 genes encoding 85 proteins, 37 tRNAs and 8 rRNAs. Inverted repeat expansion resulted in a duplication of rps19 in the ﬁve Meliaceae species, which is consistent with that in many other Sapindales, but different from many other rosids. Compared to Azadirachta indica, the four newly sequenced Meliaceae individuals share several large deletions, which mainly contribute to the decreased genome sizes.
