Southern California News Group Executive Editor Expands Role

Anaheim, CA (Feb. 11, 2019) — Southern California News Group’s Publisher and President Ron Hasse announced today that Frank Pine, executive editor of Southern California News Group, is taking on an expanded role in the company and will serve also as executive editor of .

Pine replaces Neil Chase, who left Bay Area News Group last month to serve as chief executive officer of CALmatters.

“Frank has been a leader in digital innovation and has vast experience managing complex editorial operations and projects across properties, publications and platforms,” Hasse said. “In addition to leading SCNG’s newsrooms, Frank has been instrumental in helping define digital strategy for MediaNews Group properties across the U.S., including Northern and Southern California.”

With more than 20 years in , Pine is a proponent of professional, fact-based news that is essential to maintaining healthy and well-informed communities. He is committed to providing readers with the information they need to live well. Pine’s business savvy approach and technical knowledge will be key to developing strategies and initiatives that benefit readers and advertisers alike.

While taking on leadership of The News and Times newsrooms, Pine will continue to oversee news for Southern California, a position he has held since 2015.

Pine previously served as director of audience development for MediaNews Group, the parent company of Southern California News Group and Bay Area News Group, and before that was managing editor for the News Group, and editor and general manager of the Inland Empire News Group. Pine has held all manner of newsroom positions, ranging from reporter to page designer to city editor and managing editor since beginning his journalism career at the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in Ontario (San Bernardino County) in 1996.
