JUSTICE AND CHARITY MINISTRY Sheila Herlihy: [email protected] FOOD MINISTRY-INVITATION: For our food ministry to function, we need people in a variety of roles. Currently, we are looking for help with picking up from Bell Air Farms through the growing season. If you are interested in this or any other aspect of the ministry, contact Sheila in the Parish Office. If you’d rather donate material goods, we accept all food items in the basket in the Narthex, (along with paper bags and empty egg cartons). The item of the week is an easy way to add something small to your grocery list, and donate something that is very needed by our ministry. This week, the item of the week is 48oz. bottles of cooking oil. IMPACT CELEBRATION: For people who are network members in our Justice Ministry, don’t forget about our Celebration on May 25 at St. Thomas Aquinas. There will be a pot-luck dinner from 6:00-7:00pm, and the program from 7:00-8:00pm, with an opportunity to invest in the work of justice. If you would like to invest, but can’t make the celebration (or aren’t a network member), please mail a check made out to IMPACT to 1700 University Avenue, with Incarnation in the memo line. GREEN TEAM EnvironMINUTE: Rain barrels allow us to enjoy God’s gift of water in new ways. Consider adding one to your house to water the garden or wash your car without using drinkable water. JUSTICE CORNER: Justice doesn’t focus on one person’s immediate need, but rather helps the whole community by addressing the problems that create needs. In 2009, we won an affordable housing trust fund from the City of Charlottesville, because of the power of our interfaith justice ministry. Since then, over 850 affordable units have been built or refurbished. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD DAYS: Incarnation participates in the work of Habitat for Humanity, building houses for and with community members in need! No construction experience is necessary, and this is a great way to spend a Saturday living our faith and doing tangible work in the community. We also need people to photograph the event, and provide lunch. Our next build date is July 15. Please check out the sign-up sheets in the Narthex for details and to put your name down! LOVE INC EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: A spiritually mature individual is needed to serve as the Transformational Ministry Coordinator of a new initiative for Love INC. The position oversees, directs and administers ministerial duties and activities in coordination with volunteers, churches and community leaders in ministry programs designed to transform lives, enhance self-esteem and promote self-sufficiency. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to teach, influence, motivate and coordinate group discussions. Will need to be competent in computer skills. Would prefer a BA/equivalent in management, ministry, social work, community development or related field. Past experience counts. The position begins as part time, $15/hour, 24 hours per week. Please send resume to Director, Love INC, 198 Spotnap Road, Suite C-1, Charlottesville, VA 22911. 101: The social thought of the Catholic church is deeply shaped by the notion of Solidarity. This means that the problems of one are really the problems of all, since we are all intricately connected as members of the Body of Christ. Solidarity calls us particularly to place ourselves in the situations of those who are struggling, and is a reminder of the importance of peace and justice in our deeply divided world. In solidarity, we take on the struggles of our brothers and sisters as our own, and we work for their good in love. Our group at Incarnation focuses on peacemaking and solidarity with those in war torn countries, while our Haiti Committee reminds us of the continued need to reach out to our twin community and understand their reality. If you are interested in learning more or getting involved, please contact Sheila!
