The Jarando Basin Is Situated 200 Km South of Belgrade, Covering the Area of Approximately 320 Km2 The Jarando basin is situated 200 km south of Belgrade, covering the area of approximately 320 km2. It is a northwest-southeast elongated tectonic depression with a maximum length of 20 km and width of 12 km, and consists of several coal mines. At present coal is exploited in two underground mines: Jarando and Tadenje, and one open pit mine Progorelica. The Lower Miocene Jarando basin was formed over the paleorelief made of Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Tertiary rocks. Paleozoic is represented by chlorite schist, hartzburgite and serpentinite. Mesozoic sedimentary rocks include Triassic limestone, dolomite, marble, sandy marlstone and marlstone, and Jurassic gabbro, rodingite and other rocks of the ophiolite mélange. Tertiary igneous rocks are Oligocene dacito-andesite lava flows, and Neogene quarztlatite/rhyodacite extrusions and pyroclastic rocks. Sedimentary rocks are mainly Neogene in age and are made of conglomerate, sandstone, three to nine coal seams, coal shale, shale and marlstone. Jarando basin is characterized by bituminous coals, whereas in the other basins coalification in the same stratigraphic level does not exceed the subbituminous stage. The basin is filled by coal-bearing clastic rocks deposited over serpentinite and volcanic rocks. Sedimentation was followed by basin subsidence resulting in formation of a 1500 m thick sequence (based on geophysical exploration). Sedimentation took place in a lacustrine system that was associated to contemporaneous volcanic activity. This volcanic activity was an additional factor that gave rise to higher temperature in the shallow crustal levels. It was accomapnied by intrusive magmatism represented by I-type Oligocene granitoid of Mt. Kopaonik and S- type Miocene granite of Polumir. In addition, the basin hosts boron mineralization (borates and howlite) and magnesite deposit and that further implies elevated temperatures in this lacustrine system and can indicate a possible role of hydrothermal solutions. Previous studies of the Jarando basin were related mostly to stratigraphic classification, and exploration of mineral resources (coal, boron minerals, magnesite, dolomite). However, none of the earlier studies focused on elucidating more detailed characteristics of the basin evolution, especially in terms of its heat flow regime. .

    Morava Corridor Motorway Project Chapter 5: Baseline Conditions 5 BASELINE CONDITIONS This Chapter comprises the collection of baseline data representative of the Study Area covering Area of Influence, which is defined in the following paragraphs, in order to provide a baseline against which the impacts of the Project can be assessed. The baseline takes into account current conditions and those changing conditions (e.g., increasing traffic load on the transportation network and its environmental and social consequences) apparent in the baseline. It takes into consideration other developments in the area which are underway or certain to be initiated in the near future. The baseline description has the following main objectives: to focus on receptors that were identified during scoping phase and further discussed in the ESIA stage as having the potential to be significantly affected by the Project; to describe and where possible quantify their characteristics (nature, condition, quality, extent etc.); to provide data to aid the prediction and evaluation of possible impacts; and to inform judgments about the sensitivity, vulnerability and/or importance of resources/receptors.   • Flood Emergency Response Project Kraljevo
    FLOOD EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROJECT KRALJEVO INTRODUCTION With funding support awarded by the Serbian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand and in cooperation with Red Cross of Kraljevo, International Orthodox Christian Charities – IOCC implemented the flood response program for the flood affected population of four villages in Kraljevo municipality, running from 01st July, 2014 to 30th September, 2014; the project was implemented professionally, completed on time and within the operational budget. The project is fully aligned with IOCC strategic objectives and priorities of the emergency flood response program that IOCC is conducting in Serbia and Republika Srpska – BiH. BACKGROUND Starting May 13, 2014, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina experienced sustained torrential rains - by some estimates several months of average rain fell on the region in less than week - that resulted in the worst floods in at least the last century. Large sections of the Sava River and its major and minor tributaries in the watershed flooded, from the western reaches of northern Bosnia to the confluence with the Danube at Belgrade, and throughout the region flash floods and landslides caused extensive damage to infrastructure, people’s homes and communities. Over seventy people lost their lives, while hundreds of thousands of people were affected by the floods, thousands were evacuated and thousands more were isolated within the flooded areas, cut off from main roads without ready access to drinking water, food, medicine or power. The extent of severity to which people are affected by the flood is different from place to place, and very much depends on local geographic and environmental conditions, and peoples individual losses and damages made on their property.

Previous development plans marginalized these resources due to influence of industrialization. Available resources were used in a small scale. The task of this research is to perceive current geographic changes that happen among nature, population, settlements and economy. The perceived changes show complex situation in this area that had not been studied by regional geographers. The aim of this research is to define natural and human directions of development that could provide even regional development of Raška Municipality. Various literature and fieldwork (especially observation and interviews) provided data for this research. The future development plans for Raška Municipality should consider possibilities of agriculture, mining and tourism development. These activities will contribute to the regional development. These activities are also factors of the revitalization of its rural parts. Administratively, it is divided into three urban, three suburban and 55 rural settlements.
