Incendo Starts Shooting “THICKER THAN WATER” NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION Incendo starts shooting “THICKER THAN WATER” Montreal, September 4th, 2018 – Incendo is pleased to announce the commencement of principal photography for THICKER THAN WATER, shot on location in Montreal, starring Canadian actress Andrea Roth (Evidence of Truth; Rescue Me). The movie also co-stars Eric Osborne (Degrassi: Next class; Pyewacket;), Katie Douglas (Mary Kills People; Every Day; Spooksville) and award-winning actor Tygh Runyan (Versailles; 15 minutes; Forget & Forgive). THICKER THAN WATER is directed by Caroline Labrèche and written by David Elver and Andrea Stevens. “Our audiences have come to appreciate our high level of casting and our superior quality films. The cast and the crew of THICKER THAN WATER are no exception” says Jean Bureau, President & CEO of Incendo THICKER THAN WATER: It has been a year since Paige and Nathan Petrovic tragically lost their teenage son Zach to an overdose. Nathan and daughter Addie have slowly been putting their lives back together. Paige, however, just can’t seem to let go. She is still consumed by grief, withdrawn, and unable to work. In order to supplement Paige’s lost income, the family decides to rent out their spare bedroom. Surprisingly, life starts to look up for Paige once their charming new tenant, Brandon, enters the picture. A student at the local university, Brandon eerily resembles everything that Zach stood for in the family, and he brings Paige out of her shell. At first, Nathan and Addie are thrilled to see Paige acting more like her old self, but as Brandon insinuates himself further into the family, they start to see a darker, and more dangerous side to their tenant. Soon, Addie uncovers a secret about Brandon that is about to shake the Petrovics to their core. Can a family in crisis hold themselves together in the face of an evil genius? THICKER THAN WATER is produced with the participation of Bell Media. Jean Bureau and Ian Whitehead will produce the film for Incendo; Executive Producer is Jean Bureau. • Abortion Onscreen in 2017 Portrayals of Abortion on American Television
Abortion Onscreen in 2017 Portrayals of Abortion on American Television For those involved in abortion advocacy and provision, 2017 marked a year of both transition and impending setbacks. Abortion portrayals in popular culture have begun to reflect this in small, but resonant, ways. Some of these parallels are realized retrospectively: for example, abortion rights protesters across the country have adopted the cinematic imagery of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale as particularly appropriate for this moment in history, although the show had already begun filming before last year’s Presidential election, and the novel on which it was based is over thirty years old. Other parallels, though, are deliberate: FX’s American Horror Story: Cult begins with a portrayal of Election Night 2016, and spirals into the horrific from that moment. Regardless of the intentionality, dystopic and disturbing abortion plot lines are having a moment on American television in 2017. In addition to The Handmaid’s Tale (which shows the executed body of an abortion provider in a rigidly conservative new world order) and American Horror Story (which shows a woman dying from a deliberately botched abortion inflicted by a deranged, sadistic, conservative pastor), there were the nightmarish abortions set in the past: Underground’s portrayal of the brutal reproductive coercions that enslaved Black women faced in 1850s Georgia and Alias Grace’s portrayal of the false choice between the heavy stigma of single motherhood and risk of dangerous abortion in 1840s Canada. There are otherwise powerless characters who attempt to make decisions about their reproduction as a way of asserting autonomy (e.g., The White Princess, Orphan Black); there are characters who are forced to get abortions (e.g., Underground, Somewhere Between).

  • Pregnancy Test Popular Culture - Television Popular Culture: Television
Pregnancy Test Popular Culture - Television Popular Culture: Television "If ye water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be! If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!" - From "Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test" The Simpsons, Episode 47, "I Married Marge," December 26,1991. Marge Simpson was not pregnant, but as she took her home pregnancy test she joined dozens of other television women for whom peeing on a stick is a common plot point. How far television has come since Hot Lips’ pregnancy scare forced her M*A*S*H comrades to threaten the life of Radar’s rabbit! In today’s television-world, it is a rite of spring to take a pregnancy test in May, and force America to wait for the season premiere the next fall to learn the results rather than the three minutes it would take in real life. But the test is usually portrayed as simple, no dead rabbits necessary. Rachel stares at her positive pregnancy test as her friend Monica looks on, (Friends, 2001) Perhaps the most culturally significant pregnancy test on television came in May and September of 1991 when Murphy Brown’s 20 tests turned up positive (Episodes 75 & 76, “Uh-Oh”). A year later, when she delivered baby Avery, a national discussion, prompted by Vice President Dan Quayle’s remarks, ensued about single motherhood. However, most television home pregnancy tests reveal more about the characters’ dalliances than national controversies. Though certainly most characters do not discuss the science behind the home pregnancy test, its very presence on so many different kinds of television shows and movies geared at different audiences hints at its cultural relevance.
