Royal Horse Guard Sentry box SOLD REF:- 169870 Height: 27 cm (10 3/4") Width: 13 cm (5") Depth: 13 cm (5") Short Description Rare Miniature Sentry Cigar / Cigarette box made from English Oak with glass front and original water colour of a Royal Horse Guard known as 'The Blues'. The oak sentry box contains three drawers each with flush fitting brass finger pulls and cedar linings. The sentry box has a sprung lock which locks when the door is pushed shut, it can only be opened by using the key. More information about the Royal Horse Guards regiment. The Royal Horse Guards (RHG) was a cavalry regiment of the British Army, founded in Newcastle upon Tyne by Sir Arthur Haselrig in 1650. In 1969, The Royal Horse Guard was merged with the Royal Dragoons to form the Blues and Royals which is the second most senior regiment in the British Army. Changing the Guard, Guarding the Change of History 1. INTRODUCTION The Queen's Guard and Queen's Life Guard are the names given to contingents of cavalry and infantry soldiers charged with guarding the official royal residences in London. The British Army has had regiments of both Horse Guards and Foot Guards since before the restoration of King Charles II, and, since 1660, these have been responsible for guarding the Sovereign Palaces. The Queen's Guard and Queen's Life Guard is mounted at the royal residences which come under the operating area of London District, which is responsible for the administration of the Household Division; this covers Buckingham Palace, St James's Palace and the Tower of London, as well as Windsor Castle. The Queen's Guard is also mounted at the sovereign's other official residence, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, but not as regularly as in London. In Edinburgh, the guard is the responsibility of the resident infantry battalion at Redford Barracks. It is not mounted at the Queen's private residences at Sandringham or Balmoral. The Queen's Guard is the name given to the contingent of infantry responsible for guarding Buckingham Palace and St. James's Palace (including Clarence House) in London. The guard is made up of a company of soldiers from a single regiment, which is split in two, providing a detachment for Buckingham Palace and a detachment for St James's Palace. Because the Sovereign's official residence is still St James's, the guard commander (called the 'Captain of the Guard') is based there, as are the regiment's colours.

A-DH-200-000/AG-000 CHAPTER 8 ALLIANCES, AFFILIATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS CANADIAN CUSTOMS 1. Officially-sanctioned links can be established to foster continuous fraternal connections between military organizations beyond the close, professional relationships which are always encouraged. 2. Three types of official links are maintained by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF): a. an alliance – between Canadian and Commonwealth units or branches/corps; b. an affiliation – between two Canadian units; and c. a partnership – an informal bond of friendship (partnership) between a Canadian unit and a unit from an allied country, such as a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Partnerships include "jumelages" (the twinning of Canadian and French units), "partnerschafts" (the twinning of Canadian and German units), and similar bonds. GUIDELINES 3. A Canadian branch or corps is one of the CAF personnel branches or corps described in Chapter 1. Its equivalent in the armed forces of another member of the Commonwealth may be titled as a department, corps or branch. 4. A Canadian unit is a commissioned ship, regiment, flying squadron, or equivalent. Sub-units shall not be authorized alliances, affiliations or partnerships. 5. Since official links create a social obligation to welcome members into each other's "families", they should only be requested if the organizations concerned are prepared to maintain contact over time. 6. In general, requests to forge these links may be made when: a. close ties and personal relationships have developed between units through combined participation in operations or training, regular exchange of personnel on exercises, special meets, parades, competitions, etc.; b.

This thesis describes the process by which horsed cavalrymen were re-trained in armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) and the experiences of some of the regiments managing this change. Extensive use has been made of the oral testimonies of many of the soldiers involved, a number of whom are still living, as well as regimental and War Office archives. The reason given for the delay in cavalry mechanization, cited in some military histories, much influenced by Sir Basil Liddell Hart, was resistance from the cavalry to parting from their horses.
