J.D. Byars and Pat Greenwood each enter their third season broadcasting South Alabama baseball games. J.D. Byars Byars joined the South Alabama staff as Director of Broadcasting/Corporate Sales Executive in January 2014. In his role, he is responsible for creating and producing radio and television broadcasts including events, coaches’ shows and special projects, as well as creating and maintaining sponsorship packages for Jaguar Sports Properties. Byars was the Director of Broadcasting & Corporate Sponsorships at North Alabama for last three-plus years, where his main duties included producing, engineering and serving as the play-by-play voice for over 90 Lion athletic events each season. In addition to creating and establishing UNA’s radio network — which included all FM affi liates — and hiring and managing all on-air support staff , he created broadcast, signage, print promotion and web inventory for strategic sports sponsorship packages. 24 Major Leaguers Byars began hosting weekly television coaches’ shows for football and men’s basketball in 2009; he also served as creative producer for the shows, brokering air • time for the programs as well. He fi rst started calling play-by-play action for Lion Athletics during the 1998-99 academic year. Byars, who earned his degree in communications arts from UNA, and his wife Beverly have one son Jake and one daughter Stella Beth. Pat Greenwood Pat Greenwood began in March 2014 as South Alabama’s Director of Multi-Media/Corporate Sales Executive. In addition to creating on-line producing video programming for the department’s offi cial site, www.usajaguars.com and www.jagnation.tv, Greenwood will support and participate in event and coaches’ shows broadcasts. He will also create packages and maintain relationships with Jaguar Sports Properties sponsors. Greenwood — a Mobile native — joined the staff aft er working at WPMI-TV since 1997. Aft er starting at the local station as a sports reporter, he added duties as a weekday morning anchor until assuming the title of Sports Director in 1999. Greenwood earned several awards during his time in sports, fi rst receiving accolades for the best Alabama Associated Press sports story in 1999. He was also selected the AP’s Best Alabama Sportscaster in ‘01, was recognized for the organization’s Best Sports Program two years later and was named the Best Sportscaster by the Mobile Press Club in ‘04. He transitioned into news in 2007 as part of the “Local 15 Today” program that airs each weekday morning from 4:30-7 a.m. 29 All-Americans • Greenwood earned his degree from Loyola (La.) in 1994. He and his wife Stephanie have four children: Madeleine, Robert, Grace Anne and Mary Linda.
