OUR OPINION Take time to see the Wall Veterans Day is still days away, but local residents have the chance now to honor those who have served. The Wall That Heals, a traveling half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, arrived in Lake City on Thursday and will be located next door to the Honda of Lake City through Monday. There is no fee to stop by and see the Wall and remem- ber those who gave the sacrifice. It is a moving experience to see the seemingly end- less rows of names on panel after panel. To consider the brave and courageous soldiers willing to put their lives on the line. The Wall’s arrival here comes at an opportune time, leading into the Veterans Day holiday, when we do take the time to thank those who have fought for our free- doms. And now, thanks to Kelly Meggs, the general manager at Honda of Lake City, and his team for making the Wall’s visit a reality, there is an extra opportunity to pay tribute. So, take time this weekend to go by and see the Wall, it is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. COLUMBIA 41, ENGLEWOOD 7 SEE YA LATER, RAMS Peterson leads CHS to rout of Englewood in 6A play-in game

By JORDAN KROEGER [email protected]

Marcus Peterson had an up and down first half in his first start at quar- terback for Columbia. In the second half, he ended Englewood’s season. Peterson completed 11 of 22 passes for 154 yards with two touchdowns and he ran for two more scores with 90 yards on 11 carries to lift the Tigers to a 41-7 win over the Rams at home in a Region 1-6A play-in playoff game. Columbia turned a seven-point game at halftime into a rout, with Peterson leading three touchdown drives in the second half to advance to next week’s playoff matchup against Ponte Vedra back in the Jungle. “We didn’t make too many adjust- ments,” Peterson said. “The line blocked better and we did our job.” Peterson’s go-to man was Tra’ Tolliver, who caught six passes for 106 yards. Tight end D.J. Bennett and receiver Jaquez Redic both caught touchdowns as well to complement a run game that tallied 225 yards. In addition to Peterson, Daveion Folston rushed 86 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown and Tony Fulton added 45 more on six attempts. Oh, and the defense pitched a shutout and allowed just 120 yards of offense as Englewood’s lone score came via a kickoff return. Sean Wilks and Terrance Ford split snaps at quarterback for the Rams, with Wilks finishing 12 of 17 for 60 yards while Ford was just 3 of 8 for six yards. Wilks was also intercepted on his final pass of the game by Kani Fulton and the duo was sacked a com- bined four times, with A’deon Farmer, Bobby Miller, Julius Moreland and Lane Mote each recording a takedown. It was an absolute total team effort from the Tigers with their season on the line. ORLANDO — Last month, the Walt Disney Co. revealed it was laying off 28,000 employees across its U.S. theme parks division, but the company wouldn’t break down exactly where the cuts were com- ing: Disneyland or Disney World? New federally required govern- ment filings give more insight: Orlando’s numbers are much higher than California, where Disneyland remains closed because of the coronavirus pan- demic. Nearly 18,000 people are getting laid off in Florida, according to the report, or nearly a quarter of the resort’s Orlando workforce of 77,000 a year ago. Disney filed a new notice of mass layoffs this week that revealed 11,350 Disney World Parks and Resorts union employees being laid off as of Dec. 31. Late last month, the company filed a notice that TONY BRITT/Lake City Reporter Construction crews continue work Wednesday on building the Circle K gas station which will be located at the intersection Baya DISNEY continued on 3B Drive and U.S. Highway 90.
