Government land located in Gulf Breeze was for sale. So on Aug. 12, 1955, Towne wrote the U.S. Land Bureau for information and application forms. The Civitan Club applied for 40 acres in Lot No. 1 and sent the $10 applica- tion fee on Nov. 23, 1955. Since the Civitan Club was the first applicant, it got the land. The official registry date is December 1955. The Land Bureau required that applicants for government land have a planning board. Thus, the Civitan Park Committee was formed with Bob Towne as chairman. The park then became a reality.
