1

Prayer to be said daily during our 81 Days of Prayer From August 15th thru November 3rd, 2020.

Heavenly Father, we pray that our President and Leaders will honor You and respect You as the One and only True God. We ask that You give us government leaders who will pray for Your Will and Guidance. Lord, we ask that You pour out Your Spirit on this nation to help each of us discern good from evil, not as the eyes of man but through spiritual eyes. Lord, we ask that You humble our hearts so that we will be a nation filled with gratitude and thankfulness.

We pray for Your mighty power for all who suffer injustice. May Your hand protect law enforcement officers and the men and women of the military. We ask for the ’s gifts of Counsel and Wisdom for Judges across this land. We pray that You and Your kingdom of righteousness will be manifested in the hearts of all those who are in authority in any way.

Seeking the intercession of the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the USA, our Patron Saints, and our Guardian we ask all of this through our Lord Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

2

From August 15th thru August 23rd please pray the of & the Chaplet of Divine Mercy: Each day of this DIVINE MERCY NOVENA pray the specific prayer intention for each day and then pray THE CHAPLET of DIVINE MERCY each day of the NOVENA.

_____August 15th: First Day "Today bring to Me all mankind, especially all sinners, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. In this way you will console Me in the bitter grief into which the loss of souls plunges Me."

Most Merciful Jesus, whose very nature it is to have compassion on us and to forgive us, do not look upon our sins but upon our trust which we place in Your infinite goodness. Receive us all into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, and never let us escape from It. We beg this of You by Your love which unites You to the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon all mankind and especially upon poor sinners, all enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion show us Your mercy, that we may praise the omnipotence of Your mercy for ever and ever. Amen.

3

______August 16th: Second Day "Today bring to Me the Souls of Priests and Religious, and immerse them in My unfathomable mercy. It was they who gave me strength to endure My bitter Passion. Through them as through channels My mercy flows out upon mankind."

Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace in men and women consecrated to Your service, that they may perform worthy ; and that all who see them may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in .

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the company of chosen ones in Your vineyard -- upon the souls of priests and religious; and endow them with the strength of Your blessing. For the love of the Heart of Your Son in which they are enfolded, impart to them Your power and light, that they may be able to guide others in the way of salvation and with one voice sing praise to Your boundless mercy for ages without end. Amen.

______August 17th: Third Day "Today bring to Me all Devout and Faithful Souls, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. These souls brought me consolation on the Way of the Cross. They were a drop of consolation in the midst of an ocean of bitterness." 4

Most Merciful Jesus, from the treasury of Your mercy, You impart Your graces in great abundance to each and all. Receive us into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart and never let us escape from It. We beg this grace of You by that most wondrous love for the heavenly Father with which Your Heart burns so fiercely.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon faithful souls, as upon the inheritance of Your Son. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, grant them Your blessing and surround them with Your constant protection. Thus may they never fail in love or lose the treasure of the holy faith, but rather, with all the hosts of Angels and Saints, may they glorify Your boundless mercy for endless ages. Amen.

______August 18th: Fourth Day "Today bring to Me those who do not believe in God and those who do not know Me, I was thinking also of them during My bitter Passion, and their future zeal comforted My Heart. Immerse them in the ocean of My mercy."

Most compassionate Jesus, You are the Light of the whole world. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who do not believe in God and of those who as yet do not know You. Let the rays of Your grace enlighten them that 5 they, too, together with us, may extol Your wonderful mercy; and do not let them escape from the abode which is Your Most Compassionate Heart.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who do not believe in You, and of those who as yet do not know You, but who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw them to the light of the Gospel. These souls do not know what great happiness it is to love You. Grant that they, too, may extol the generosity of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen.

______August 19th: Fifth Day "Today bring to Me the Souls of those who have separated themselves from My Church, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. During My bitter Passion they tore at My Body and Heart, that is, My Church. As they return to unity with the Church My wounds heal and in this way they alleviate My Passion."

Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not refuse light to those who seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Church. Draw them by Your light into the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape from the abode of

6

Your Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that they, too, come to glorify the generosity of Your mercy.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Son's Church, who have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love of Your own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake, since they, too, are enclosed in His Most Compassionate Heart. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your great mercy for endless ages. Amen.

______August 20th: Sixth Day “Today bring to Me the Meek and Humble Souls and the Souls of Little Children, and immerse them in My mercy. These souls most closely resemble My Heart. They strengthened Me during My bitter agony. I saw them as earthly Angels, who will keep vigil at My . I pour out upon them whole torrents of grace. I favor humble souls with My confidence.”

Most Merciful Jesus, You yourself have said, "Learn from Me for I am meek and humble of heart." Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart all meek and humble souls and the souls of little children. These souls send all heaven into ecstasy and they are 7 the heavenly Father's favorites. They are a sweet- smelling bouquet before the throne of God; God Himself takes delight in their fragrance. These souls have a permanent abode in Your Most Compassionate Heart, O Jesus, and they unceasingly sing out a hymn of love and mercy.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon meek souls, upon humble souls, and upon little children who are enfolded in the abode which is the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls bear the closest resemblance to Your Son. Their fragrance rises from the earth and reaches Your very throne. Father of mercy and of all goodness, I beg You by the love You bear these souls and by the delight You take in them: Bless the whole world, that all souls together may sing out the praises of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen.

______August 21st: Seventh Day “Today bring to Me the Souls who especially venerate and glorify My Mercy, and immerse them in My mercy. These souls sorrowed most over my Passion and entered most deeply into My spirit. They are living images of My Compassionate Heart. These souls will shine with a special brightness in the next life. Not one of them will go into the fire of hell. I shall particularly defend each one of them at the hour of death.”

8

Most Merciful Jesus, whose Heart is Love Itself, receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who particularly extol and venerate the greatness of Your mercy. These souls are mighty with the very power of God Himself. In the midst of all afflictions and adversities they go forward, confident of Your mercy; and united to You, O Jesus, they carry all mankind on their shoulders. These souls will not be judged severely, but Your mercy will embrace them as they depart from this life.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls who glorify and venerate Your greatest attribute, that of Your fathomless mercy, and who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls are a living Gospel; their hands are full of deeds of mercy, and their hearts, overflowing with joy, sing a canticle of mercy to You, O Most High! I beg You O God:

Show them Your mercy according to the hope and trust they have placed in You. Let there be accomplished in them the promise of Jesus, who said to them that during their life, but especially at the hour of death, the souls who will venerate this fathomless mercy of His, He, Himself, will defend as His glory. Amen.

______August 22nd: Eighth Day "Today bring to Me the Souls who are in the prison of , and immerse them in the abyss of My 9 mercy. Let the torrents of My Blood cool down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They are making retribution to My justice. It is in your power to bring them relief. Draw all the from the treasury of My Church and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you would continually offer for them the alms of the spirit and pay off their debt to My justice."

Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so I bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet, who must make retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of Purgatory, that there, too, the power of Your mercy may be celebrated.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg You, by the sorrowful Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other way but only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly

10 beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your goodness and compassion. Amen.

______August 23rd: Ninth Day "Today bring to Me the Souls who have become Lukewarm, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These souls wound My Heart most painfully. My soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of Olives because of lukewarm souls. They were the reason I cried out: 'Father, take this cup away from Me, if it be Your will.' For them, the last hope of salvation is to run to My mercy."

Most compassionate Jesus, You are Compassion Itself. I bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Your pure love, let these tepid souls who, like corpses, filled You with such deep loathing, be once again set aflame. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Your mercy and draw them into the very ardor of Your love, and bestow upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is beyond Your power.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beg You by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three- hour agony on the Cross: Let them, too, glorify the abyss of Your mercy. Amen. 11

From August 24th thru September 1st our prayer will be the Novena For the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit:

Prayer of the Holy Spirit to prayed each day of the Holy Spirit Novena (August 24th-September 1st) PLUS the specific prayer for each day.

NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and kindle in them the fire of Thy love.

V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created

R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth. Amen.

Let us pray:

O God, Who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that, by the gift of the same Spirit, we may be always truly wise, and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

______August 24th: 1) The Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit! Lord of Light! From Your clear celestial height, Your pure beaming radiance give!

Only one thing is important - eternal salvation. Only one thing, therefore, is to be feared - sin. Sin is the result of ignorance, weakness, and indifference. The 12

Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Light, of Strength, and of Love. With His sevenfold gifts He enlightens the mind, strengthens the will, and inflames the heart with love of God. To ensure our salvation we ought to invoke the Divine Spirit daily, for “The Spirit helps our infirmity. We know not what we should pray for as we ought. But the Spirit Himself asks for us.”

Almighty and eternal God, Who has graciously granted to regenerate us by water and the Holy Spirit, and has given us forgiveness of all sins, graciously grant to send forth from heaven upon us your sevenfold Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Fortitude, the Spirit of Knowledge and Piety, and fill us with the Spirit of Holy Fear. Amen.

______August 25th: 2) The Gift of Fear

Come, Father of the poor. Come, treasures which endure; Come, Light of all that live!

The gift of Fear fills us with a sovereign respect for God, and makes us dread nothing so much as to offend Him by sin. It is a fear that arises, not from the thought of hell, but from sentiments of reverence and filial submission to our heavenly Father. It is the fear that is the beginning of wisdom, detaching us from worldly pleasures that could in any way separate us from God. 13

“They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and in His sight will sanctify their souls.”

Come, O blessed Spirit of Holy Fear, penetrate my inmost heart, that I may set you, my Lord and God, before my face forever, help me to shun all things that can offend You, and make me worthy to appear before the pure eyes of Your Divine Majesty in heaven, where You live and reign in the unity of the ever Blessed Trinity, God world without end. Amen.

______August 26th: 3) The Gift of Piety

You, of all consolers best, Visiting the troubled breast, Does refreshing peace bestow.

The gift of Piety begets in our hearts a filial affection for God as our most loving Father. It inspires us to love and respect for His sake persons and things consecrated to Him, as well as those who are vested with His authority, His Blessed Mother and the Saints, the Church and its visible Head, our parents and superiors, our country and its rulers. He who is filled with the gift of Piety finds the practice of his religion, not a burdensome duty, but a delightful service. Where there is love, there is no labor.

Come, O Blessed Spirit of Piety, possess my heart. Enkindle therein such a love for God, that I may find

14 satisfaction only in His service, and for His sake lovingly submit to all legitimate authority. Amen.

______August 27th: 4) The Gift of Fortitude

Thou in toil art comfort sweet, Pleasant coolness in the heat, solace in the midst of woe.

By the gift of Fortitude, the soul is strengthened against natural fear and supported to the end in the performance of duty. Fortitude imparts to the will an impulse and energy which move it to undertake without hesitancy the most arduous tasks, to face dangers, to trample underfoot human respect, and to endure without complaint the slow martyrdom of even lifelong tribulation. “He that shall persevere unto the end, he shall be saved.”

Come, O Blessed Spirit of Fortitude, uphold my soul in time of trouble and adversity, sustain my efforts after holiness, strengthen my weakness, give me courage against all the assaults of my enemies, that I may never be overcome and separated from You, my God and greatest Good. Amen.

15

______August 28th: 5) The Gift of Knowledge

Light immortal! Light Divine! You visit these hearts of Yours, And our inmost being fill!

The gift of Knowledge enables the soul to evaluate created things at their true worth- in their relation to God. Knowledge unmasks the pretense of creatures, reveals their emptiness, and points out their only true purpose as instruments in the service of God. It shows us the loving care of God even in adversity, and directs us to glorify Him in every circumstance of life. Guided by its light, we put first things first, and prize the friendship of God beyond all else. “Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesses it.”

Come, O Blessed Spirit of Knowledge, and grant that I may perceive the will of the Father; show me the nothingness of earthly things, that I may realize their vanity and use them only for Your glory and my own salvation, looking ever beyond them to You, and Your eternal rewards. Amen.

______August 29th: 6) The Gift of Understanding

If You take Your grace away, nothing pure in man will stay; All his good is turned to ill.

Understanding, as a gift of the Holy Spirit, helps us to grasp the meaning of the truths of our holy religion. By

16 faith we know them, but by Understanding we learn to appreciate and relish them. It enables us to penetrate the inner meaning of revealed truths and through them to be quickened to newness of life. Our faith ceases to be sterile and inactive, but inspires a mode of life that bears eloquent testimony to the faith that is in us; we begin to “walk worthy of God in all things pleasing, and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

Come, O Spirit of Understanding, and enlighten our minds, that we may know and believe all the mysteries of salvation; and may merit at last to see the eternal light in Your Light; and in the light of glory to have a clear of You and the Father and the Son. Amen.

______August 30th: 7) The Gift of Counsel

Heal our wounds- our strength renews; On our dryness pour Your dew, Wash the stains of guilt away.

The gift of Counsel endows the soul with supernatural prudence, enabling it to judge promptly and rightly what must be done, especially in difficult circumstances. Counsel applies the principles furnished by Knowledge and Understanding to the innumerable concrete cases that confront us in the course of our daily duty as parents, teachers, public servants, and Christian citizens. Counsel is supernatural common sense, a priceless treasure in the quest of salvation. “Above all

17 these things, pray to the Most High, that He may direct your way in truth.”

Come, O Spirit of Counsel, help and guide me in all my ways, that I may always do Your holy will. Incline my heart to that which is good; turn it away from all that is evil, and direct me by the straight path of Your commandments to that goal of eternal life for which I long. Amen.

______August 31st: 8) The Gift of Wisdom

Bend the stubborn heart and will, melt the frozen, warm the chill. Guide the steps that go astray!

Embodying all the other gifts, as charity embraces all the other virtues, Wisdom is the most perfect of the gifts. Of Wisdom it is written “all good things came to me with her, and innumerable riches through her hands.” It is the gift of Wisdom that strengthens our faith, fortifies hope, perfects charity, and promotes the practice of virtue in the highest degree. Wisdom enlightens the mind to discern and relish things divine, in the appreciation of which earthly joys lose their savor, whilst the Cross of Christ yields a divine sweetness according to the words of the Savior: “Take up thy cross and follow me, for my yoke is sweet and my burden light.”

18

Come, O Spirit of Wisdom, and reveal to my soul the mysteries of heavenly things, their exceeding greatness, power and beauty. Teach me to love them above and beyond all the passing joys and satisfactions of earth. Help me to attain them and possess them forever. Amen.

_____September 1st: 9) The Fruits of the Holy Spirit

You, on those who evermore You confess and You Adore, in Thy sevenfold gift, Descend; Give Them Comfort when they die; Give them Life with You on high; Give them joys which never end. Amen.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit perfect the supernatural virtues by enabling us to practice them with greater docility to divine inspiration. As we grow in the knowledge and love of God under the direction of the Holy Spirit, our service becomes more sincere and generous, the practice of virtue more perfect. Such acts of virtue leave the heart filled with joy and consolation and are known as Fruits of the Holy Spirit. These Fruits in turn render the practice of virtue more attractive and become a powerful incentive for still greater efforts in the service of God, to serve You is to reign.

Come, O Divine Spirit, fill my heart with Your heavenly fruits, Your charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, faith, mildness, and temperance,

19 that I may never weary in the service of God, but by continued faithful submission to Your inspiration may merit to be united eternally with You in the love of the Father and the Son. Amen.

Novena to Our Lady of Good Help

______September 29th: Day One--For the sick, especially those who suffer with eye disorders.

Today we pray for those who are sick, especially those who suffer with eye disorders. During her childhood, Sister Adele carried the cross of being without one eye because of an accident. Moreover, Adele also had a great concern for the sick. On her death bed she told a close friend, Josie, to be kind to the sick and the old. Today we exercise that kindness by praying for them.

Dear Lady of Good Help, I come to you today with complete confidence in your intercession. I bring to you all those who suffer because of illness. I pray especially for those in hospitals and nursing homes, and for those who have no one to visit them. Grant them peace in their suffering. I pray also for those who suffer from any sort of eye disorder, be it cataracts, glaucoma, or blindness. As the sick bear these crosses in their lives, I pray that they will unite their suffering to the cross of Christ for the salvation of the world.

For us too, dear Lady, please intercede. Ask the Lord to give us the grace to respond generously to those in need by our prayers, help, and support. Through your intercession, Mary, may the Lord bestow blessings upon those who work in hospitals and nursing homes as they care for the sick and the suffering, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

28

Each day of the Novena the following prayer is recited: PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GOOD HELP by The Most Reverend David L. Ricken, D.D., J.C.L. Bishop of Green Bay

O Dear Lady of Good Help, you revealed yourself as the Queen of Heaven to your servant Adele. You gave her a mission to pray for the conversion of sinners, to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to others and to prepare the children for the reception of the sacraments.

I trust that as you called Adele to holiness, you are calling me, in my station in life, to live a holy life, devoted to Jesus Christ with the help of your maternal love.

I bring before you now my worries and anxieties. I abandon my attachments to them and place them at your feet.

I ask you to hear the deepest longings of my heart as I pray most earnestly for: ______(your intention).

Dear Lady, you told Adele and you say to all of us “Do not be afraid; I will help you.” Help me now as I place this intention with complete confidence and trust. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.... Our Lady of Good Help, pray for us.

29

______September 30th: Day Two--For Immigrants.

Today we pray for all immigrants to the United States. In 1854, Lambert and Catherine Brise decided to immigrate to the United States and settled in Red River, Wisconsin. They came seeking a better life, and it was here in the United States, in Champion, Wisconsin, where Our Lady appeared to a Belgian immigrant.

Dear Lady of Good Help, I come to you today with complete confidence in your intercession. I bring to you all those who have had to leave their native country and seek refuge and asylum here in the United States. Some have come in order to work and send money back home to care for their families and others come with the hope of a better life. As they suffer separation from their families, grant them peace of mind. Help them to obtain all the necessities of life and proper care and treatment. Through your intercession, Mary, may the Lord bestow blessings upon these immigrants and their families, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Each day of the Novena recite the Prayer to Our Lady of Good Help, Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be....this is found on page 29.

______October 1st: Day Three--For the Conversion of Sinners.

Today we pray for the conversion of sinners. On October 9, 1859, Our Lady told Adele that she was the

30

Queen of Heaven who prays for the conversion of sinners. She exhorted Adele to do the same by offering her Holy Communion for that intention. We, too, are called to this mission of prayer, prayer for ourselves and the whole world.

O Mary, you are the Queen of Heaven who prays for the conversion of sinners; please pray for me, my family, my friends, and the world. The lure of evil is all around us, consistently tempting us to sin and break God’s commandments. You have appeared throughout time to remind us about your Son and His immense love and mercy. You echo the Gospel call to repentance and invite us to return to a more regular practice of the sacraments of the Church. Please pray for our world that we will return to the ways of God. Through your intercession, may sinners be granted the desire to turn away from sin and embrace the message of the Gospel.

O Mary, you are the Lady of Good Help; help us, in our time of temptation, to turn toward Jesus and away from sin. This day I offer my prayer for the conversion of sinners and I make reparation for the sins I have committed and for those of the whole world. Through your intercession, Mary, may sinners be granted the desire for conversion, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

______October 2nd: Day Four--For Catholic Schools and Religious Education Programs. Today we pray for Catholic schools and religious education programs, for their teachers and catechists. In addition to praying for the conversion of sinners, Our Lady told Adele to gather the children and teach them their catechism. To this end, Adele founded a Catholic school in order to fulfill this mission. She was a teacher of the Catholic faith to many young people. Let us pray today for those involved in the work of catechesis.

O Queen of Heaven, you told Adele to gather the children and teach them their catechism. I pray today for all programs of religious instruction in Catholic schools and religious education programs, especially for their teachers and catechists. Through your intercession, may those who make decisions for these institutions always keep in mind their Catholic identity. Let their goal be the promotion of Catholic teaching that is faithful to the . Please ask your Son to grant a rich harvest of teachers and catechists who love their Catholic faith and ardently desire to share it with young people. Make them effective teachers of the Gospel. Through your intercession, Mary, may Catholic schools and religious education programs be blessed with an abundance of students, teachers, and catechists, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

______October 3rd: Day Five--For Students.

Gathering the children was the instruction given to Adele by Our Lady. Today we pray for students, that they may be open to the gift of faith.

O Lady of Good Help, today I entrust to your intercession all students of Catholic schools and religious education programs. Please ask Jesus to open their hearts to the teachings of the Church. Please wrap your mantle of protection around our young people. Keep them safe from the danger of sin and the enticement of evil. Help them to fall deeper in love with Jesus and the Church. Through your intercession, Mary, may young people be granted the desire to follow Jesus in their daily lives, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

______Ocober 4th: Day Six--For Families.

Today we pray for families. Adele was blessed to have the support of her parents after the apparition. Her father helped to build the first chapels commemorating Our Lady’s apparitions. Let us pray for holy families.

O Lady of Good Help, today I bring to you the families of the world. Today there are so many broken families.

33

Divorce is rampant, husbands and wives are unfaithful to each other, single parenthood is on the rise, and there are fatherless homes, among so many other problems. The family is under attack. Please intercede especially for any families I know that are going through a difficult time. Help them to overcome their difficult situation. O Mary, please pray for the sanctification of families. May family prayer once again be a part of each household. Through your intercession, Mary, may there be many holy families and from those families, vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

______October 5th: Day Seven--For Priests.

Today we pray for priests. Through Adele's life, she worked closely with priests. It was under the guidance of Fr. Verhoef that Adele founded a tertiary group of Franciscan sisters. After Adele had prepared individuals for the sacraments of Confession and Eucharist, she presented them to a priest for admission to the sacraments. When confronted by the bishop, she obediently followed his directive. Whenever she encountered a perplexing situation, be it her immigration to the United States or the mysterious woman she had seen twice, she sought out the guidance of the local priest.

34

O Lady of Good Help, today I bring to your intercession all priests and bishops. It was by your fiat, your yes, that we were given our eternal priest, Jesus Christ. We pray for our priests, that they will conform their lives to the will of God through obedience to their bishop and the Magisterium. May they be men of prayer who are dedicated to serving the Lord and the people entrusted to their care. In times of loneliness and doubt, grant them comfort and peace in knowing that they are doing God’s will. Through your intercession, Mary, may all priests be granted the grace of a missionary heart and zeal for souls, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

______October 6th: Day Eight--For the return of those away from the sacraments and for a renewed religious fervor.

Today we pray for the return of those away from the sacramental life of the Church and for a renewed religious fervor among the Catholic faithful. Adele was instructed to make a general confession and offer her communion for the conversion of sinners. She was called to participate in the sacramental life of the Church and to bring others to the sacraments through

35 catechesis. Adele was also told to gather the children and teach them how to approach the sacraments.

O Lady of Good Help, today I entrust to your intercession those who are away from the practice of their Catholic faith and for a renewal of religious fervor among all Catholics. Throughout all your many appearances, you have always directed your children to the sacraments. Often at these holy sites, people return to the sacrament of Penance, perhaps after being away for many years. There is a spiritual hunger in our world that can only be satiated by Christ, the sacraments, and the Word of God.

O Mary, please touch the hearts of all those who have fallen away from the sacraments; grant them the desire for Confession so that they can worthily receive your Son again in the Eucharist. O Mary, please pray also for a renewed religious fervor among the Catholic faithful. May we never take the sacraments for granted, especially the Eucharist, and may we always receive your Son worthily in Holy Communion. Please accept my prayers as reparation for those who receive the Eucharist without examining their conscience. Through your intercession, Mary, may God’s holy people realize again the treasure of the sacraments of the Church, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

______October 7th: Day Nine--For the New Evangelization.

Today we pray for the New Evangelization that the popes of the modern era have initiated. In the Gospel of Matthew, before His ascension, Jesus instructed the disciples to “Go forth and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” This is the call to spread the faith and evangelize our world. Juan Diego evangelized an entire country, Adele Brise evangelized the area around the Door Peninsula, and today we are called to bear witness to the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to those around us.

O Queen of Heaven, you appeared in the New World to Juan Diego and gave him the tilma — your image. Through this miraculous image, millions of Native Americans converted to the Catholic faith. To Adele Brise, you gave a blue print for catechesis — gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they need to know for salvation, their catechism, how to sign themselves with the Sign of the Cross, and how to approach the sacraments.

O Mary, you have been hailed as the Star of the New Evangelization. Guide the Church as she embarks on this mission of spreading the Gospel. May the Lord bless the Church’s laborers and those to whom she ministers. Grant to them, through your intercession, receptivity to the message of Christ. Open their hearts

37 and their minds to the Gospel. O Mary, Star of the New Evangelization, please pray for the Church, and through your intercession may many more members be added to her flock, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
