CHARLIE WORSHAM August 9 • 7:00 PM CHARLIE WORSHAM august 9 • 7:00 PM or the last seven years, singer-songwriter CHARLIE WORSHAM has devoted himself to honing his musical vision by collaborating with many of the most innovative musicians in Nashville today, working as both a session player and Fwriter, while serving as a central member of a high-profile band of players. Now, the 27-year-old multi-instrumentalist is gearing up to release his debut album – Rubberband on August 20th – which not only reveals his refined musical talent, but announces Worsham as a country artist of uncommon ingenuity, substance, and soul. Joined by musicians carefully assembled through his years of dedication to the Nashville scene, as well as through his studies at Berklee College of Music, Worsham infuses each track on Rubberband with a reverence for country’s rich heritage while ultimately delivering a bold sound entirely his own. Fans of all musical genres will enjoy Charlie’s brand of songwriting, which infuses elements of bluegrass, country, pop, and rock and roll as well as classic country. THE POINTER SISTErs began their formal vocal training in their father’s church in West Oakland, California. They went on to achieve Lworldwide fame and have secured a place in pop music history as a dynamic female group. Their 1973 debut album went gold and the following year the sisters released That’s A Plenty, an album that included a bona-fide country-western tune, “Fairytale,” written by the sisters. As a result, the sisters became the first black female group to ever perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Their 1983 album, Break Out, served as more than just a title, it’s exactly what the sisters did. Upon its release, Stereo Review called the new album “the Pointer Sisters at their sassiest, brassiest, up-tempo best.” That album produced the mega- hits “Neutron Dance,” “I’m So Excited,” “Automatic,” and “Jump (For My Love).” Break Out went triple-platinum and earned the sisters two Grammy’s as well as two American Music Awards. • ZZ Ward Is Someone You Haven't Heard Before
ZZ Ward is someone you haven’t heard before. Hold up, let’s amend that: With early praise from Esquire (“damn near NSFW”) and Marie Claire (“will raise goose bumps down your spine”)—not to mention buzz-building appearances at South by Southwest and on Last Call with Carson Daly—this bold new voice may indeed have captured your attention already. And if that’s the case, then surely you know the deal: ZZ Ward is doing something all her own. She calls it “dirty shine”: the bone-deep wail of old-fashioned blues crossed with the big-city gloss of cutting-edge hip-hop. Currently based in Los Angeles, Ward forged her one-of-a-kind sound growing up in small-town Oregon—“out in the sticks in the middle of nowhere,” as she puts it. “There was nothing to do, so that gave me a whole lot of time to play around with music.” Her dad owned a pair of Hammond B-3 organs, and she learned to play those; guitar came a little later, as did the remarkable vocals she first honed singing with a blues band at the age of 12. (Yes, she sometimes had trouble getting into the clubs she was booked to play.) Then, at 16, Ward entered the world of rap—which she’d first discovered thanks to her older brother’s CD collection—in a scene that sounds like something out of 8 Mile: She drove an hour and a half to Eugene, walked into an underage hip-hop club, found the dude in charge and proceeded to tell him she should sing his choruses.
