Combing live performance, site responsive work and working with the body they will create a video documenting their research with film maker Padraig Conaty. Who sat in it? Who owns it? What stories will it reveal? The play is set against the backdrop of the War of Independence in Cavan. The chair is a wedding gift from Hugh to his wife Aggie both heavily involved in the War of Independence. Rescued from the burning of a big house in Cavan as the war escalates, the chair and who comes to sit in it, will haunt them for the rest of their lives. The chair is rescued by Con in 2016. He is married to Maud a granddaughter of Aggie. Con sets about restoring the chair and the secrets is reveals. As Con and Maud struggle in their relationship, their own private war, the past haunts the present. The play explores the struggle for both identity and survival in Ireland over one hundred years. The play is part of a mentorship opportunity for the writer with the dramaturg Pamela McQueen. The chair, an object from the Women of Influence exhibition was selected by the local Craft Group for the writer to respond to. An intriguing look at some of Jackie O'Neill's permanent artwork and stories, on this outdoor trail. With local musicians and singers entertaining us at this very historic landmark in Belturbet Co. Cavan Venue : Online, Cavan Arts YouTube Time : 8:30pm ---------------------------------------------------------------- Jackie O’Neill Pop Up Art Gallery As part of Culture Night 2020 artist Jackie O’Neill is set the launch an exciting pop up art gallery on the Diamond square in the heart of Belturbet town. Here she will launch a beautiful range of limited-edition textile and paper prints that already feature on the newly launched Turbet Island Dreamscape Trail. Colette Kearney mural artist will be a guest on Friday night, limited edition prints of her recently launched Train Station mural will be available for purchase and the mural can be viewed nearby in the town carpark.. Jackie was commissioned in 2017 by Project Belturbet to create body of work about Belturbet and its richness of history, myth, characters and nature. In these 13 new prints- one of which she created in collaboration with the children of the Belturbets after school club- she has created passageways for the viewer to re-discover the ancient River Erne, the historic Turbet Island with its Motte and Bailey, the colourful characters that created this place and who continue to shape it today. His radio plays, No Hate Going to Loss and Will You Swap Knees with Me? Both won RTE P.J. O’Connor Awards. His first stage play, A Lock of Fierce Roars, received a staged reading by Druid Theatre Company. The Quare Land first produced by Decadent Theatre Company at the Galway Arts Festival in 2010 toured Ireland and was produced in New York at the Irish Repertory Theatre in 2015 as part of the Origin First Irish Festival where it won the Best Playwright Award. John completed the New Playwright’s Programme at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, in 2014. Other plays include The Cavan Curse and Danger Money. Musician Educators Claire Crehan (piano) and Niamh Mc Cormack (voice) from Music Generation Cavan / Monaghan will be hosting a special virtual performance from Kilmore Cathedral. Whistleberry Forest is a beautiful forest full of leafy trees and curious creatures. As you walk through the forest, you can hear twigs snap beneath your feet. When you look up, you can see the sun shine through the leaves. When you take a deep breath, you can smell the fresh scent of pinecones in the air. In the middle of Whistleberry Forest, you will find a very magical Wishing Tree where the creatures of the forest often gather to make their very own wish. In this multisensory musical workshop, an invited group of children from an ASD Unit in Co. Monaghan will be led on a journey through Whistleberry Forest. The music and songs from this workshop will be recorded and shared with another group of children in Co. Cavan so that they can also join the sensory adventure. Workshop led by Dr. Thomas Johnston, Artistic Director of Ceol Connected, along with Orla Kelly, Director of Early Childhood Creativity. Creativity by its very nature requires you to find your place of isolation and remain there for quite a while sifting through the art form, its mysteries and magical nature. In this introductory episode, hosts Jonny Dillon and Claire Doohan delve into definitions of folklore to dispel some common misconceptions surrounding this area of interest, as well as tracing the cultural and political context of the interest in folk-tradition, which saw it arise as an expression of romantic nationalist thought across Ireland and Europe of the 19th century. The Main Manuscript Collection, assembled by the Irish Folklore Commission and its successors, preserves an important record of Ireland’s oral tradition and material culture.
