  • The Gays in This Gay Press Exclusive, Queen Bey Talks Being Inspired by Her Gay Fans, Loving Lady Gaga and Remaking ‘A Star Is Born’
Beyoncé ‘4’ The Gays In this gay press exclusive, Queen Bey talks being inspired by her gay fans, loving Lady Gaga and remaking ‘A Star Is Born’ BY CHRIS AZZOPARDI f there’s any girl who runs the world, it’s Beyoncé. The reigning diva – she’s called Queen Bey for a reason, people – is one of the biggest and best voices behind a long run of hits dating back to the late ’90s, when she was part of Isupreme girl-group Destiny’s Child. Years later, Beyoncé still demonstrates just how irreplaceable she is as a solo artist, having released four albums – and dedicating her latest one, “4,” to that milestone – with some of the most memorable and gay-celebrated singles in pop music history. Not every artist can say they’ve had a gay boy lead a football team to glory by performing “Single Ladies,” as seen on “Glee.” And not every artist can say they have 16 Grammy Awards, making her one of the most honored artists in Grammy history. But that’s Queen Bey, who’s also assembled a gaggle of gay fans who are – you guessed it – crazy in love with her. In this exclusive chat with Beyoncé, her first gay press interview since 2006, the singer/actress/glamour-girl spoke about how the fierceness of her gay fans inspires her, the intimidation she’s feeling following in the footsteps of Judy and Barbra for her upcoming role in “A Star Is Born,” and what she really meant by the “girls” who run the world.

Run the World Het vermeende spanningsveld tussen feminisme en seksualiteit in de hedendaagse popmuziek Loes Berends 07-07-2015 Master Kunst- en Cultuurwetenschappen Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen Run the World This goes out to all the women getting it in, you on your grind To all the men that respect, point out that, please accept my shine Boy you know you love it how we smart enough to make these millions Strong enough to bear the children, then get back to business. (Beyoncé, Run the World (Girls), 2011) 1 Abstract Run the World The supposed field of tension between feminism and female sexuality in modern pop music. Recently more and more female pop stars started to declare to be feminists. Singer Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is one of them. During her VMA performance in 2014 she made a significant feminist statement while performing her song ***Flawless, standing in front of a giant luminous FEMINIST sign. A lot of critique on this statement followed. Although Beyoncé is claiming to be a feminist, she has been putting a lot of emphasis on her body, looks and sexuality, in both her music and her videos. Therefore, the current study examines how Beyoncés feminist claim can be interpreted through theories about (modern) feminism and sexualization in pop culture, and thereby how these subjects intertwine and contradict. It analyses how core values in pop culture like authenticity, image, sexuality, tone of voice, context, commerciality, and personal autonomy are used in creating a personal message like Beyoncé does. The research focuses on Beyoncé as an artist, her career, and her newest self-titled album including the song ***Flawless.

  • Creator's Letter Princess Francois, CC'11
Introduction 1 Introduction Creator’s Letter Princess Francois, CC’11 Dear Charles Drew Members, Pulse was created specifically for you! The idea for creating this came after reading a similar book I received from my participation in the University of Pittsburgh’s Summer Academic Enrichment Program (SPAEP) in Summer 2009. I found the book incredibly resourceful and it served as a pre-med bible to me. My only criticism was that it was not entirely written by students. I later discovered a mini premed booklet written by students of the Harvard Pre-Med Society. An overachieving Columbian, I decided I would create one written by Columbia premeds, for Columbia premeds, combining the best aspects—depth and student perspective—of Pitt’s book and Harvard’s. In this endeavor, I have aspired to build upon Charles Drew’s diverse activities while complementing the usual guidance of Columbia’s Office of Pre-Professional Advising. The purpose of this book is to offer honest advice about how to survive (and conquer!) the intense pre-med curriculum at Columbia. The content of this book is broad but detailed in its presentation. In these pages, you will find topics such as how to pick a major, studying abroad, extracurriculars, summer research opportunities, the “gap year”, and much more. Here, students share personal stories, talking openly about mistakes they feel they made and what they might have done differently. Our motivations in sharing these stories are to pass on knowledge we hope might help you achieve the same success we want for ourselves – to become physicians with a purpose, to become physicians that pay it forward, with the first step of getting into medical school.

  • The Complete Stories
The Complete Stories by Franz Kafka a.b.e-book v3.0 / Notes at the end Back Cover : "An important book, valuable in itself and absolutely fascinating. The stories are dreamlike, allegorical, symbolic, parabolic, grotesque, ritualistic, nasty, lucent, extremely personal, ghoulishly detached, exquisitely comic. numinous and prophetic." -- New York Times "The Complete Stories is an encyclopedia of our insecurities and our brave attempts to oppose them." -- Anatole Broyard Franz Kafka wrote continuously and furiously throughout his short and intensely lived life, but only allowed a fraction of his work to be published during his lifetime. Shortly before his death at the age of forty, he instructed Max Brod, his friend and literary executor, to burn all his remaining works of fiction. Fortunately, Brod disobeyed. Page 1 The Complete Stories brings together all of Kafka's stories, from the classic tales such as "The Metamorphosis," "In the Penal Colony" and "The Hunger Artist" to less-known, shorter pieces and fragments Brod released after Kafka's death; with the exception of his three novels, the whole of Kafka's narrative work is included in this volume. The remarkable depth and breadth of his brilliant and probing imagination become even more evident when these stories are seen as a whole. This edition also features a fascinating introduction by John Updike, a chronology of Kafka's life, and a selected bibliography of critical writings about Kafka.
