C M Y K SUNDAY, MARCH 28, 2021 | 04 OPINION Writing plays on Buddhist themes Buddhism is a grand positive, poetic and secular mantra that creates a passage for the quest for peace and sanity.

ABHI SUBEDI WORDS & ECHOES

The organiser of Buddha Theatre Festival March 2021, Pushkar Gurung, artistic director of Dabali Theatre, tossed me a minuscule storm, as it were, when he asked me to write a paper on my ‘Buddha plays’ for the seminar of the festival. In that cyclone of memories, I felt I was trying to find a ground to stand. I have written four plays with Buddha theme in different years of the twenty-first century start- ing from 2003 when I wrote Agniko Katha translated as ‘Fire in the Monastery’ which, according to its director Sunil Pokharel, is my mag- num opus. PRASHAN SHRESTHA

If you are by yourself all alone at your home, think: What if you could control nature?

Even if you could, you would lose. Nature always wins. Look, who is around you today? It’s nature.

It’s you and I who banished innocent animals from their homes, for all this comfort in life. What have you and I done to our home? A place where we dominate others in order to survive

The path is straight, but things are twisted. You and I are paying for what we did. We are left empty-handed, but with a big question mark: What is tomorrow going to look like?
