These children, who entered foster care through no fault of their own, fi nd themselves in an overwhelmed system. CASA Volunteer advocates look out for the safety and well-being of each child until he or she fi nds a permanent home. Make it your New Year’s resolution to help these children by becoming a CASA Volunteer. A CASA Advocate is trained to investigate a child’s situation and assess their needs to fi nd out what is best for them and then report to the court. A CASA Advocate serves as a voice for the child in an overloaded system. Even as some children are adopted or placed back into their homes once the parents have undergone the corrections needed, new children enter foster care needing the watchful eye of a CASA volunteer. Please consider bettering a child’s life YOUR New Year’s Resolution. Visit our website www.casant.org or email Jerry Metzler at [email protected] to learn more about becoming a CASA Volunteer. The Quilt Bee met on Dec. 5 in the beautiful home of Lisa Bohannon for its Christmas party. Twenty-four quilters gathered with food and gifts to share. Lisa’s home was decked out with every possible decoration for the Christmas Season. It had been on the KWC Home Tour the day before, so we had a second exposure to her extraordinary knack for utilizing every inch of space and inserting her own personality into the design of her warm and inviting home. After tasting and enjoying all the delicious food brought potluck style, a birthday cake was brought in for our leader, Sharon Catlett. It was then noted that two more members also had birthdays a day or two after that and another one later this month so Happy Birthday was sung by everyone. The 2016 challenge project was a sewing accessory that each member should make to give as a gift in a Chinese auction. (L-R): Rosina Salsman, Abigail's Arms Volunteer Coordinator; Marilyn Board, Lynn Keckonen and Kim Cook, Executive Director.

We cannot thank our KWC ladies enough for their generosity in supporting this project. The club donated over $2,000 by way of Walmart gift cards to ladies at Abigail's Arms. Each woman, as she enters the crisis center, will be given a note of encouragement and a gift card for necessities for herself and her children. It has been shared that women flee their homes, in fear, with nothing. Possumhaw holly (Ilex decidua) Perhaps this small gift during the holiday season will help these women in crisis. The director commented that sharing a letter of encouragement to them, from a stranger, will mean so much. Thank you for participating in this special Christmas project. The notes and cards were delivered in November in time for the holiday season. Blessings, Marilyn Board and Lynn Keckonen

Garden & Nature members donated food and funds to VISTO. The gifting is an annual project of the Garden & Nature group.
