ANNUAL 2016-17 REPORT A Note From The President

It is my pleasure to share the results of our efforts with you in this 2016-17 Michigan Council on Economic Education Annual Report. It has been an incredible year impacting classrooms. Thank you for your interest in the Michigan Council on Economic Education, and more importantly, for your continued support. We cannot advocate for economic and financial literacy education without a strong team of supporters like you!

Through strategic partnerships with Money Smart Week and Funding the Future, we were able to greatly increase the number of students impacted by economic and financial literacy programming. We were able to connect 11 Michigan high schools with the financial literacy rock band, Gooding, the "coolest financial advisor in America" according to the The Wall Street Journal. In addition to our expanded reach, we continue to develop innovative programming to impact all Michigan K-12 students. A highlight of the year was seeing our Money Smart Week Magic Show reach over 6,000 students in 17 elementary schools. We also began a new initiative to reach elementary students by training their teachers to implement $martpath in their classrooms. $martpath in a hybrid face-to-face and digital interactive platform to teach students state standards in economics, math, and literacy. We continue to look for ways to integrate economics and financial literacy into curriculum and equip teachers with the knowledge and resources they need.

Our signature programs, Amerisure Michigan Economics Challenge and Michigan Credit Union Foundation Personal Finance Challenge, continued to see growth in participation across the state. Lower division Economics Challenge winner, , advanced to the National Finals in New York, finishing in third place. The upper division saw rising powerhouse Chelsea High School win for the second straight year. We were able to send Personal Finance Challenge Champion, -Okma to the Kansas City Federal Reserve to compete against the best in the nation.

We have our sights set on financial inclusion and bringing the best resources and educators from around the country to train Michigan teachers during the 2017-18 school year. The Michigan Council will continue to cultivate new relationships and strengthen our existing partnerships in an effort to give Michigan students the best economic and financial education in the country!
