Country Music CASH BOX AUGUST 27, 1994 20 COUNTRY MUSIC CMA Awards Nominees Announced CMT To Reach Over 90% Of World By Richard McVey NASHVILLE—Nominees for the 28th Annual CMA (Country Music Association) Awards were announced August 16 by George Jones and Pam Tillis at the Grand Ole Opry. Some of the most often heard names were Reba McEntire with six nominations, Vince Gill and Alan Jackson both with five, and Brooks & Dunn, who garnered four nominations. Some of the first-time nominees include Linda Davis, Little Texas, Brother Phelps and Orrall & Wright, as well as those who participated on the three multi-artist albums, such as Huey Lewis, Aaron Neville, Sam Moore, B.B. King, The Staple Singers, Natalie Cole, Little Richard, Gladys Knight and Riders In The Sky Winners will be voted on by the 7,000 industry professional members of the CMA. The three-hour special will be broadcast live from the Grand Ole CMT TAKING OVER THE WORLD—CMT gets the “thurrfcs up” for their launch Opry House on October 5 on CBS at 8 p.m. (Eastern). in the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America by PanAmSat satellites.     ANNUAL REPORT 2014-2015 School of Sciences and Mathematics Annual Report 2014‐2015 Executive Summary The 2014 – 2015 academic year was a very successful one for the School of Sciences and Mathematics (SSM). Our faculty continued their stellar record of publication and securing extramural funding, and we were able to significantly advance several capital projects. In addition, the number of majors in SSM remained very high and we continued to provide research experiences for a significant number of our students. We welcomed four new faculty members to our ranks. These individuals and their colleagues published 187 papers in peer‐reviewed scientific journals, many with undergraduate co‐authors. Faculty also secured $6.4M in new extramural grant awards to go with the $24.8M of continuing awards. During the 2013‐14 AY, ground was broken for two 3,000 sq. ft. field stations at Dixie Plantation, with construction slated for completion in Fall 2014. These stations were ultimately competed in June 2015, and will begin to serve students for the Fall 2015 semester. The 2014‐2015 academic year, marked the first year of residence of Computer Science faculty, as well as some Biology and Physics faculty, in Harbor Walk. In addition, nine Biology faculty had offices and/or research space at SCRA, and some biology instruction occurred at MUSC. In general, the displacement of a large number of students to Harbor Walk went very smoothly. Temporary astronomy viewing space was secured on the roof of one of the College’s garages. The SSM dean’s office expended tremendous effort this year to secure a contract for completion of the Rita Hollings Science Center renovation, with no success to date.

Buck has been successfully playing for over 7 years, and played with other fine musicians, such as The Time Jumpers, Vince Gill, Dawn Sears, Wade Hayes, James Mitchell, Mike Johnson, Brent Mason, Paul Franklin, Kevin Grant, Lonnie Wilson, Larry Franklin, and many other talented musicians throughout the West Coast, South West and Nashville regions. Wilson slowly walks out of the basement studio in the home he shares with wife Melinda and daughters Daria, 2, and Delanie, 6 months old. Wilson squints into the midday sun. He looks at a playground slide. Then he looks at a swing set. Wilson elects to sit down on the saddle swing. In a life of storied ups and downs, Wilson's career is on the upswing. The June release of ``Imagination'' (Giant Records) is a return to 1966's ``Pet Sounds'' in terms of orchestration and instrumentation, with its the ambitious patterns of tympanies and snare drums. But equally important are Wilson's vocals, which are the smoothest and most soulful since 1970's ``Sunflower.'' Wilson, 55, has suddenly defied age. Mick Jagger and Pete Townshend are brittle rock 'n' roll barnacles. Ray Davies and Paul McCartney have matured gracefully. Yet here's Wilson singing with effervescent hope on ``Dream Angel,'' which he co-wrote with his co-producer Joe Thomas and Jim Peterik of Survivor and Ides of March fame. The song was inspired by Wilson's new daughters. They make him happy. He says that is why he is writing happy music. On ``Dream Angel,'' Wilson even returned to the tight, late '50s harmonies of the Dell Vikings (``Come Go With Me'') and the Four Freshmen - happy-go-lucky voices that influenced the Beach Boys when they were young.

But the legends and true country music are our bread butter and will always be. If you see something you think you may like but are worried let us know. If you pass our inquisition we may be able to send it on a sale or return basis. I say inquisition because if your favourite artists are SheDaisy and Rascal Flatts we certainly aren’t going to risk something as precious as Justin Trevino. By the same token we believe great music is timeless and knows no bounds. People may think chuck steak is good until they try the best rump! Recently I had the pleasure of seeing Dale Watson. Before hand I had the added pleasure of sitting in with my compatriot Eddie White (a.k.a. “The Cosmic Cowboy”) for an interview at the 2RRR Studios. Dale is a humble, engaging and extremely likeable man with a passion for tradition.
