Nuit de Noël, 1963 © Malick Sidibé 2020-09-02 10:50 CEST Hasselbladpriset 40 år - fotoutställning med samtliga Hasselbladpristagare Hasselblad Award 40 years Celebrating Photography 11 september 2020–17 januari 2021 För att fira 40-årsjubileet av Hasselbladpriset presenterar denna utställning verk av samtliga pristagare – från första mottagaren Lennart Nilsson, 1980, till 2020 års vinnare Alfredo Jaar. I samband med utställningen publiceras en jubileumsbok med förord av Sir Elton John, med planerad release i oktober. Utställningen är curerad av Dragana Vujanović Östlind. Meddela gärna din medverkan till [email protected] Utställningen Verken i utställningen visar ett brett spektrum inom fotografi; från det vetenskapliga och politiska till det personliga och intima, från gatan till studion, från det filmiska, poetiska och surrealistiska till det nyfikna och engagerade. Hasselbladpristagarna är konstnärer, innovatörer, aktivister, rebeller och legender som har format den moderna fotohistorien. Majoriteten av vinnarna arbetar inom de klassiska genrerna av det dokumentära, porträtt, stilleben, gatu- och landskapsfotografi. Utställningen belyser dessa dominerande riktningar men också bredden av stilar och teman i prisets historia. Merparten av verken i utställningen finns i Hasselbladstiftelsens samling. Hasselbladpriset Priset delades ut för första gången 1980 och har blivit världens mest prestigefyllda pris inom fotografi. Idag består Hasselbladpriset av en miljon kronor och en guldmedalj. Det tilldelas inte för en viss stil, innehåll eller teknik – inte ens för användningen av en Hasselbladkamera. Erna och Victor Hasselblad, det visionära paret bakom den berömda kameran, initierade utmärkelsen med målet att hedra framstående fotografiska gärningar. När vi firar 40-årsjubileet av Hasselbladpriset firar vi pristagarnas betydelsefulla arbeten, men också fotografiet självt. Stiftelsens syfte är att främja forskning och vetenskaplig undervisning inom det naturvetenskapliga området samt inom fotografi. Målet uppnås genom utdelandet av naturvetenskapliga och fotografiska stipendier, inte minst Hasselbladpriset; fotografisk forskning och utställningarna på Hasselblad Center.     Published on The Embryo Project Encyclopedia (https://embryo.asu.edu) A Child Is Born (1965), by Lennart Nilsson [1] By: Zhang, Mark Keywords: human embryos [2] Dell Publishing in New York City, New York, published Lennart Nilsson [3]'s A Child Is Born in 1966. The book was a translation of the Swedish version called Ett barn blir till, published in 1965. It sold over a million copies in its first edition, and has translations in twelve languages. Nilsson, a photojournalist, documented a nine-month human pregnancy [4] using pictures and accompanying text written by doctors Axel Ingelman-Sundberg, Claes Wirsén and translated by Britt and Claes Wirsén and Annabelle MacMillian. Critics lauded A Child Is Born for its photographs taken in utero of a developing fetus [5]. Furthermore, the work received additional praise for what many described as simple and scientifically accurate explanations of complicated processes during development. Nilsson, born in Sweden in 1922, worked as a photojournalist since the mid-1940s. Using instruments with macro-lenses and wide-angled lenses, Nilsson photographed human fetuses. Nilsson published those images both in Life's cover article “Drama of Life before Birth” in 1965 and in A Child Is Born a few months later. Nilsson said that he intended A Child Is Born to be a practical guide for the expectant parents. To serve that purpose, Nilsson addressed common anxieties and myths about pregnancy [4] by presenting a photographic account of a fetus [5]'s growth from conception [6] through birth. Additionally, he solicited the help of Claes Wirsén, a doctor at theK arolinska Institute [7] in Solna, Sweden, and Axel Ingelman-Sundberg, a professor at the Sabbatsberg Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden, to help him write the text.

    dis/articulating bellies a Reproductive Glance LISA McDONALD — Abstract On a Saturday afternoon just out of the city, I sat with a woman who cast herself ‘Jane’. Baby ‘Jo’ and partner ‘Mardi’ played ‘kangaroos’ on the floor. We talked, sampling some ways of looking and telling: I said, ‘… [and] when you saw the child?’ Jane said, ‘Well, that was amazing, wasn’t it?’ ‘We cried’, said Mardi. ‘We did’, smiled Jane.1 And so a looking moment was marked and presupposed its hearing. Jane and Mardi expose the shapes of telling set within the heady seductions of ‘foetal imaging’, itself a prevalent frame for the discourses of preformation. Medical imaging/imagining, it is thought, constitutes, and is constituted, within geographies and effects of inscription, forcing us to contemplate the tensions between biology and text. But as well, this is a bigger story—a tale of two women, some technology, and a baby. As they recalled their first glance of nine-week-old Jo, the moment of material-transparency was secured within a specific realm of loving and living. I began to wonder about the task of explanation and the dependence upon disclosure implicit in lived negotiations of identity. And more. ‘Who writes like that—like emotion itself, like the thought (of the) body, the thinking body?’2 Language and rhetoric drive histories of coalescence between doing and telling, casting and speaking, listening and hearing, masking the more elaborate LISA McDONALD—DIS/ARTICULATING BELLIES 187 moments of irresolve in what Lauren Berlant has described as ‘public-sphere narratives and concrete experiences of quotidian life that do not cohere or harmonise’.3 In this paper, dialogue between the mysteries of difference, ‘of différance’ and the partiality of critique, hopes to deploy a digressive optic through which to imagine possibilities for a logic of sight surprised by its own luminous inflections.

Increasingly, this kind of “evidence verité”2—film footage of arrests, criminal confessions, and crime scenes—is routinely admitted in U.S. courts of law as the best evidence of what happened.3 This kind of evidence tends to overwhelm all other evidence, such as witness testimony, paper records, and other documentary evidence.4 Evidence verité also tends to be immune to critical analysis.5 It is rarely analyzed ∗ Associate Professor of Law, Suffolk University Law School.     FOTOGRAFIE BILDNERISCHES GESTALTEN Regel 1: Ran ans Motiv! In der Begeisterung über ein schönes Motiv möchte man gerne so viel wie möglich davon auf „Film“ bannen - was leider in stecknadelkopfgroßen Bildelementen endet - und einer wirren Vielfalt von Bilddetails. Für den Betrachter leichter zu erfassen und damit auch gefälliger ist die Beschränkung auf wenige und aussagekräftigere Bildelemente. Bevor man also in der „Weitwinkelstellung“ abdrückt, sollte man prüfen, ob durch die Verwendung des Zooms nicht mehr Atmosphäre eingefangen wird... Das übliche Foto wird im Format 9x13 oder 10x15 Zentimeter abgezogen. Das ist nicht viel Fläche, die muss man ausnutzen. Also: Format füllend auf- nehmen, ran an das Motiv, entweder körperlich (näherer Aufnahmestandort) oder mit dem Teleobjektiv. Bei Zoom-Objektiven immer so nah ranzoomen, dass nur noch das auf dem Bild ist, was drauf soll (also z. B. der Kopf der Person, die man fotografieren möchte). Der richtige Bildausschnitt - weniger ist mehr. Regel 2: Beachte Augenhöhe! Die Perspektive, die man hat, wenn man einfach aufrecht steht, kennt man. Variation: bei Aufnahmen von (auch nur kleinen) Personengruppen, Sport- lern und vor allem Kindern in die Knie gehen. Kinder sehen natürlicher aus, wenn man sie aus ihrer Augenhöhe fotografiert. Der Hintergrund (Bäume im Freien, oberer Teil der Wände in Innenräumen) ist oft ruhiger und der Betrachter kann sich besser aufs Motiv konzentrieren. Abwandlung von Regel 2: Auf den Boden legen. Regel 2+: Aufsteigen Regel 3: Erkenne den entscheidenden Augenblick! Bei jeder Szene gibt es immer wieder „entscheidende Momente“ oder „einzigartige Momente“ – manchmal muss man Geduld aufbringen, um solche Momente zu erleben. Diese gilt es zu erkennen und dann auf den Auslöser zu drücken.

    Hasselbladstiftelsen Hasselblad Foundation Press Release Daido Moriyama Gothenburg, March 8, 2019 Hasselblad Award Winner 2019 The Hasselblad Foundation is pleased to announce that Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama is the recipient of the 2019 Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography for the sum of SEK 1,000,000 (approx. USD 110,000). The award ceremony will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden on October 13, 2019. A symposium will be held on October 14, followed by the opening of an exhibition of Moriyama’s work at the Hasselblad Center, and the release of a new book about the artist, published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König.
