KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Terrell McSweeny Commissioner, FTC Terrell McSweeny was sworn in as a Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission on April 28, 2014, to a term that expires in September 2017. Prior to joining the Commission, McSweeny served as Chief Counsel for Competition Policy and Intergovernmental Relations for the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division. She joined the Antitrust Division after serving as Deputy Assistant to the President and Domestic Policy Advisor to the Vice President from January 2009 until February 2012, advising President Obama and Vice President Biden on policy in a variety of areas, including health care, innovation, intellectual property, energy, education, women’s rights, criminal justice, and domestic violence. McSweeny’s government service also includes her work as Senator Joe Biden’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Policy Director in the U.S. Senate, where she managed domestic and economic policy development and legislative initiatives, and as Counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she worked on issues such as criminal justice, innovation, women’s rights, domestic violence, judicial nominations, and immigration and civil rights. She also worked as an attorney at O’Melveny & Myers LLP. McSweeny is a graduate of Harvard University and Georgetown University Law School. 1 Network Advertising Initiative KEYNOTE SPEAKERS (continued) Ross Goodwin Ross Goodwin is an artist, creative technologist, hacker, gonzo data scientist, and former White House ghostwriter. He employs machine learning, natural language processing, and other computational tools to realize new forms and interfaces for written language. His projects — from word.camera, a camera that expressively narrates photographs in real time using artificial neural networks, to Sunspring (with Oscar Sharp, starring Thomas Middleditch), the world’s first film created from an AI-written screenplay — have earned international acclaim. Goodwin’s work has been featured in the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, NPR, CBS News, the Financial Times, the Irish Times, El Pais, CBC Radio Canada, RTE Radio Ireland, ABC Radio Australia, Deutschlandradio, the Guardian, the Globe and Mail, Ars Technica, VICE Motherboard, Gizmoto, Engadget, TechCrunch, CNET, Forbes, Slate, FiveThirtyEight, Fast Company, the Huffington Post, Mashable, Fusion, Quartz, PetaPixel, and other publications. He has exhibited or spoken at Science Gallery Dublin, the International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) DocLab in Amsterdam, the TriBeCa Film Festival Interactive Showcase in New York, the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York, the Phi Centre in Montreal, Gray Area in San Francisco, the MIT Media Lab, Maker Faire, GitHub Universe, the NIPS machine learning conference, Molasses Books in Bushwick, and other venues. Goodwin earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from MIT in 2009, and his graduate degree from NYU ITP in May 2016. 2 @NAI #NAISummit PANELISTS Alan Chapell President, Chapell & Associates Alan Chapell is the president of Chapell and Associates, a consulting firm that helps marketers build customer trust through responsible privacy practices. Chapell began his career at a boutique direct marketing agency in Stamford, Connecticut in the early 1990’s. After several years at the agency, and after a long sabbatical in Mumbai, Chapell moved to New York City to work at Jupiter Research, an Internet research firm focusing on the consumer Internet economy. During his 4-1/2 years at Jupiter, Chapell also attended Fordham University School of Law. His firm has helped over 100 media and technology companies craft their privacy and data strategies. He was appointed as privacy ombudsman by the U.S. Trustees Office in some of the largest bankruptcy cases in our nation’s history; including General Motors and Chrysler. In addition to his work on the Board of the Network Advertising Initiative, Chapell is Co-Chairman of the Mobile Marketing Association’s Privacy Committee, a member of the Digital Advertising Alliance Advisory Board, a member of the World Wide Web Consortium, International Association of Privacy Professionals, and a prolific writer and sought-after speaker on interactive marketing topics. Chapell is a member of the New York bar and is CIPP-US certified by the IAPP. Andy Dale VP, Legal and Data Protection Officer, DataXu Andy Dale is VP of Legal and Data Protection Officer at DataXu, Inc. a tech- nology company in the digital advertising space. Dale was the first lawyer hired by DataXu and manages all legal affairs for the company. In addition to general corporate issues, he focuses heavily on global data privacy, compliance with industry rules, and guidelines for interest-based advertising. Prior to his role with DataXu, Dale was a member of the legal team at TD Ameritrade, where he advised business units with respect to technology, commercial contracts, advertising/marketing, data privacy and intellectual prop- erty. Dale received his B.A. from Colgate University, his J.D. from University of Baltimore, and is CIPP-US certified by the IAPP. Dale is licensed to practice in Maryland and Massachusetts. 3 Network Advertising Initiative SPEAKERS (continued) Ken Dreifach Member, ZwillGen Ken Dreifach has more than twenty years of experience in high-profile regula- tory, in-house, and private practice roles, addressing Internet law and privacy issues. His range of experience helps him provide clients with unique, creative perspectives in evaluating and mitigating legal and ecosystem risks, and has made him one of the nation’s leading authorities on law relating to emerging technologies and online privacy. From 2000 to 2006, Dreifach was Chief of the Internet Bureau of the New York Attorney General’s office. Under his leadership, that Bureau brought ground-breaking enforcement ac- tions protecting Internet users from fraudulent and illegal practices. These included high-pro- file matters against spyware distributors, spammers, crammers, online gambling operators, and websites that might endanger children and minors. Dreifach has significant in-house experience working with emerging technology companies. Most recently, Dreifach served as General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer of LiveRamp (formerly Rapleaf), a leading consumer data company in the Bay Area that is a hub for online and offline data usage – including through its acquisition by data services company Acxiom, Inc. From 2007 to 2010, Dreifach was Deputy General Counsel of Linden Lab, operators of the Second Life virtual world and virtual currency platforms. In the gaming space, he has served as a Board Member of a publicly traded casino enterprise, helping it steer through regulatory matters. Reed Freeman Partner and Co-Chair of Cybersecurity, Privacy and Communications Practice Group, WilmerHale D. Reed Freeman is a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Door LLP. He serves as co-chair of the firm’s Cybersecurity, Privacy and Communications Practice. Mr. Freeman has extensive experience defending clients in FTC and state consumer protection investigations and data breach responses. He also counsels clients on compliance with FTC and state trade regulation issues and advertising and privacy laws and self-regulato- ry codes, including those on interest-based advertising online, on mobile devices, and across mobile devices. Mr. Freeman joined the firm following 16 years in private practice, where he handled a wide range of privacy, data security and advertising matters, counseled companies on FTC compliance, and served as lead counsel in numerous FTC and state consumer protec- tion investigations and negotiations. Before joining private practice, Mr. Freeman worked in the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection as a staff attorney. He received his JD in 1993 from the University of Virginia School of Law. 4 @NAI #NAISummit SPEAKERS (continued) Leigh Freund President & CEO, NAI Leigh Freund is the President and CEO for the Network Advertising Initiative, which is a leading trade association and self-regulatory organization for digital advertising technology companies. Freund is responsible for repre- senting NAI member companies before Congress, the FTC, the FCC, and other regulatory and legislative bodies, as well as for enforcement of the NAI Code of Conduct. Freund is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center and Kalamazoo College, and is a member of the Virginia and Washington DC bars. Oliver Gray Director-General, European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance Oliver Gray is the CEO of GRAYWISE, a European consultancy focused on advertising, and the Director General of the European Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA). He has a strong professional background in effective adver- tising self-regulation for modern, evolving, and increasingly innovative digital technologies. Gray also co-chairs the Code Revision Taskforce for the International Chamber of Commerce. Gray holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from Bath University and is CIPP-E certified by the IAPP. Ghita Harris-Newton Chief Privacy Officer & Deputy General Counsel, Quantcast Ghita Harris-Newton is the Chief Privacy Officer and Deputy General Counsel for Quantcast, where she is responsible for consumer privacy, data collection and use issues, as well as public policy issues for Quantcast, both in the US and globally. Harris-Newton is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, and James Madison University, is a member of the California, Virginia, and Washington, DC bars, and holds both a CIPP-US
