Www W.Uncsa.Edu U HIGH SC CHOOL PR ROFILE HIGH SCHOOL PROFILE 1533 South Main Street High School Academic Program Office: (336) 770-3245 Winston-Salem, NC 27127 Admissions Office: (336) 770-3290 / www.uncsa.edu/admissions www.uncsa.edu General Information: Founded in 1963, and opened in 1965, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (formerly the North Carolina School of the Arts) prepares exceptionally talented students at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels for professional careers in the performing, visual, and moving image arts. Students are admitted byb audition to the Schools of Dance, Design and Production, Drama, Filmmaking, and Music, and receive professional instruction from artist-faculty chosen for their achievement and professional standing in the arts. The requisite liberal arts education at UNCSA is provided by the Highh School and Undergraduate Academic Program faculties, who are especially prepared for their essential role in the broader education of young artists. In addition, supporting programs and services in Student Life assist students in their personal development within a residential settiing. The arts and academic curricula culminate in a high school diploma with an arts concentration in dance, drama, music, or visual arts; the Bachelor ofo Fine Arts degree in dance, design and production, drama, or filmmaking; or the Bachelor of Music degree. Graduate degree programs in the School of Music, School oof Designn and Production, and School of Filmmaking lead to Master of Music and Master of Fine Arts degrees. A constituent institution ofo the seventeen-campus University of North Carolina system since 1972, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts has an averaage student enrollment of 1100 (with approximately 100 graduate students, 700 undergraduate students and 300 high school students). Of that total, approximately one-half are from North Carolina, and the other half represent over 40 states and 20 foreign countries. UNCSA has a total minority enrollment of approximately 15 percent. Accreditation: Southern Associationo of Colleges and Schools. CEEB/ACT Code: 344438 Calendar: Two semesters, fall and spring, with each academic class taught as a yearlong course. There is an additional two week period, called Intensive Arts, as a part of the Fall Semesterr. High School Graduation Requirements: In addition to intensive training in an art form, students are also enrolled in a full range of college- preparatory academic courses, including College Board Advanced Placement course options in Art History, Calculus AB, Statistics, English Languuage and Composition, English Literature and Composition, European History, Psychology, Unniited States Government and Politics, and United States History. All required units must be earned in grades 9 through 12; one unit represents study of a subjeect for a full school year, a minimum of 130 instructional hours. English 4 units Social Studies (U.S. History; Civics and Economics; World History) 3 units Mathematics (including Algebra I – which, if taken before grade 9, does not count as one of the three required units 3 units Science (including Biology and a physical science) 3 units Wellness/Physical Education (Dance and Drama students meet the physical education requirement throuugh regularly scheduled arts classes.) 1 unit Electives (including arts courses) 6 units TOTAL: 20 units Although not required for graduation Foreign Language study is strongly recommended to meet college admissions requirements. Full-time high school academic faculty with graduate degrees in their instructional fields: 100% Grading System: Grade point averages are calculated using a graduated four-point scale. Class Rank and Grade Point Average: Students transfer to UNCSA from a variety of schools, many with different grading systems. Translating these systems into one produces a limited interpretation of a student’s total record, as well as an inequitable comparison of all students’ records. Furthermore, at least half of the students in our twelfth grade are new to UNCSA each year. Therefore, grade point averages computed for our students are unweighted, and our students are not ranked. Even so, we will compute a grade point average for a student at his or her request, and we will forward whatever additional infformation might be needed to make sure that the lack of a rank-in-class designation will not jeopardize the candidacy of our students for college admission or special awards. UNCSA fully encourages and supports the college and scholarship applications of its high school students. NOTE: The grade point average is based upon all courses given credit, including arts courses, with the exception of “Pass/Fail” courses. Graduating Seniors: The UNCSA graduating high school class averages 120 students annually. Typically, students in the top 50% of the class hold grade point averages above 3.5.     Audition Information 2016-2017 UNI has 5 Choral Ensembles: Concert Chorale, UNI Singers, Cantorei, Women's Chorus, and the Varsity Men's Glee Club. Choral auditions for all students new to UNI Choir ensembles will be held August 19-21 (Friday-Sunday) in PAC 30. (If necessary, Concert Chorale callbacks and additional auditions for UNI Singers will be held on Monday, August 22). All Music Majors with Voice as the Primary Instrument and/or Choral Education majors who have been accepted into the School of Music (BM, BME, and BA degrees) will be assigned an audition time. Assignments will be provided via email by August 12, 2016. Students unable to attend their assigned time due to required military duty or veteran status and legally mandated absences, such as jury duty, should contact Dr. Kotsonis by August 15 to reschedule their audition. Students who wish to reschedule for personal reasons (such as family weddings) should contact Dr. Kotsonis by August 17 to request a different audition time. Music Majors (voice) who do not participate in choral auditions will not be admitted into a large ensemble. Non Music Majors should can up for auditions by choosing the most convenient time available on Saturday or Sunday. Sign up sheets will be posted outside GBPAC 46 by Monday, August 15. It is seen as a social construction rather than as a fixed category. As a result, women and men do not stick to one language style but change it based on their social context. Therefore, the researcher was interested in analyzing the women’s language used by a feminine man named Kurt Hummel in Glee Television Series Season 1. In conducting the research, a research question was formulated: What women’s language features does Kurt Hummel use in his speech in Glee Television Series Season 1? The research was qualitative research in which discourse analysis was employed to analyze the data.
