ORDEN BLAND DRAKAR OCH DEMONER - En Språkstudie Av Svenska Rollspelsböcker
Högskolan i Halmstad Sektionen för lärarutbildning C-uppsats Svenska 91-120 HT 2007 ORDEN BLAND DRAKAR OCH DEMONER - En språkstudie av svenska rollspelsböcker Linn Ericsson Lärarprogrammet Högskolan i Halmstad Handledare och examinator: Bertil Westberg Keywords: Swedish language - role-playing books – LIX-test – language use – text composition ABSTRACT The purpose of this essay was to do a research about if the language in Swedish role-playing books is used correctly and if the composition along with the possible language errors makes the books hard to understand. This research was also about to find out why these problems occurs and if the authors are aware of them. I choose books from two Swedish role-playing games, Eon and Drakar och Demoner.I read them trough, noted the mistakes made and put them together in a scoring table. I also did a LIX-test on the books and interviewed one of the authors. The results shows that the books to Eon is harder to read than the books to Drakar och Demoner and this agrees with the vision the authors of the books claims to have. The results also shows that it is not only the language mistakes and the composition that makes the books hard to read, but also the choice of difficult words and badly formulated rules. 2 INNEHÅLLSFÖRTECKNING INLEDNING 4 VARFÖR EN UPPSATS OM ROLLSPELSBÖCKER? 4 VAD ÄR ROLLSPEL? 4 OLIKA TYPER AV ROLLSPEL 4 Datorrollspel 5 Lajv 5 Bordsrollspel 6 SYFTE OCH HYPOTES 6 FRÅGESTÄLLNINGAR 6 METOD OCH MATERIAL 7 METOD 7 LIX 7 Metoddiskussion 8 MATERIAL 9 DRAKAR OCH DEMONER OCH EON – TVÅ -

The President of Paleo Gaming, Dan Prisco-Buxbaum, Recently Sat Down
The president of Paleo Gaming, Dan Prisco-Buxbaum, recently sat down to interview Theo Bergquist, one of the founders of the Swedish-based company Riotminds, regarding the widely anticipated release of their tabletop role-playing game Trudvang Chronicles which was recently translated to English (and several other languages) following a massively successful Kickstarter campaign which surpassed its fundraising goal of 300,000 SEK by several orders of magnitude (bringing in nine times the target amount at over 2.7 million SEK). Riotminds describes Trudvang as “an award-winning fantasy roleplaying game based on the mysterious and dark Nordic and Celtic sagas and myths. Enter a world of enchanted forests, trolls, dragons, spirits of nature, heroes and adventures. Trudvang is both grim and dark, epic and yet down to earth, with a melancholic tone of an ancient age when nature was a living creature and magic was wild and strong. Above all, Trudvang is a saga…” Trudvang Chronicles presents a unique setting which has become wildly popular in Sweden, with a highly anticipated English release which was announced in May of 2016. Image © Riotminds 2017 Trudvang was originally designed by Riotminds as a campaign setting for Drachar Och Demoner (“Dragons and Demons”) which was first published by Adventure Games (later rebranded as Target Games) in 1982. A number of new editions of the game (up to the fifth edition) were released by Target Games, but following financial difficulty in the late 1990s, Target Games sold the rights to Drachar Och Demoner to Paradox Entertainment, who subsequently licensed the material to Riotminds. -

4 Tabletop Role-Playing Games
This is an Accepted Manuscript of a book chapter published by Routledge in Role-Playing Game Studies: Transmedia Foundations on April 4, 2018, available online: https://www.routledge.com/Role-Playing-Game-Studies-Transmedia- Foundations/Deterding-Zagal/p/book/9781138638907 Please cite as: William J. (eds.), Role-Playing Game Studies: Transmedia Foundations. New York: Routledge, 63-86. 4 Tabletop Role-Playing Games William J. White; Jonne Arjoranta; Michael Hitchens; Jon Peterson; Evan Torner; Jonathan Walton This chapter discusses tabletop role-playing games (TRPGs), sometimes also called “pen and paper” RPGs to distinguish them from their compatriot media, primarily the computer role-playing game (CRPG) and live action role-playing game (LARP). Once some preliminary matters of definition and description are taken care of, the discussion in this chapter proceeds largely along historical lines, presenting TRPGs as (1) originating in the early 1970s with the publication of Dungeons & Dragons and its early offshoots, imitators, and derivations and (2) developing in variety through the 1980s and 1990s as designers sought to emulate different fictional settings and genres as well as explore various game-mechanical approaches before (3) experiencing a period of “mainstream” consolidation and 1 countervailing “indie” experimentation in the first years of the 21st century. It concludes with an attempt to discern the direction of future developments, as the arrival of crowdfunding, print-on-demand, and other Internet-enabled publishing tools change the face of the industry. The historical arc traced here draws in large measure upon two recent histories of the origins of TRPGs, Peterson’s Playing at the World (Peterson 2012) and Appelcline’s multi-volume Designers and Dragons (Appelcline 2013). -
