An Enchanted Evening

Virtuoso pianist and singer Jamsheed Master lights up the stage with a programme drawn from musical theatre, the silver screen and the ballroom. Songs that move you, nostalgic medleys that help you remember and Viennese waltzes to dance to.

Jamsheed brings something unique to the concert platform with stunning displays of virtuosity and profoundly moving interpretations of popular music from the stage and screen. With music from West Side Story, The Sound of Music, Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, South Pacific, Mack & Mabel, waltzes by Strauss and arias by Puccini.

Memorable musical theater is all about those transporting moments when a song reaches out and communicates that ineffable something to the audience, connecting with our feelings and deepening our insights in ways that dialogue alone cannot. Jamsheed blends these deeply moving moments of musical theatre with flashes of sheer joy and fun at the piano. The songs are linked with anecdotes, musical ephemera and stories that give the programme a charming, engaging flow. The journey has the audience captivated by drama one moment and up waltzing in the aisles the next.

He’s one of the few pianists you’ll hear who can really make the piano sing and has quite a voice of his own too, lending it to carefully chosen songs throughout the programme. An Enchanted Evening is an inventive concert experience bringing together wonderful medleys of shows, moments of musical magic, personality, warmth and humour. Every performance has ended with the audience on its feet cheering for more.

Biography

Brought up in Surrey, England, Jamsheed Master is the seventies child of a fashion designer and a city banker. One of his early triumphs was as the UK’s youngest commercial pianist, taking professional gigs as early as 14 years old. He studied under pianist Christopher Dendy and later at Sussex University with composer Martin Butler, going on to become a Yamaha artist. He went on to pursue a career in the music industry and has since worked as music developer and composer-in-chief for Sony Europe and recently for Disney Music. His music appears on countless social network and console videogames, although Jamsheed writes primarily for the musical theatre stage.

Learning his craft in modest bar and restaurant settings, work as a pianist has taken Jamsheed all over the world with appearances at The Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, The National Mumbai, music festivals across the globe and many of the leading cruise ships and luxury hotels. He performed at the wedding of HRH Prince Joachim and Princess Alexandra of Denmark and was commissioned by the Houses of Parliament to perform at international receptions and events.

Jamsheed Master has also worked as a musical director, bringing new life to UK revivals of West Side Story, Little Shop of Horrors, Fame and Oklahoma. His knowledge of musical theatre is unparalleled and also the source of inspiration for his concert performances. Having refused to conform to the classical concert form, his stage performances are unique in that they include a vast array of material, drawing on popular music, well loved classical, themes from the ballroom, celebrated musical theatre and opera, bringing them together in exciting, virtuoso performances.

A fervent supporter of new music, Jamsheed Master has written three musicals so far, one of which premiers in 2011. He provides year-round theatre training for young people and through his work with Disney has helped shape the musical life of future generations of performers.
