Date: 11 June 2014 Maserati Official Sponsor Of The Taormina Film Festival Two of Italy's finest celebrate important respective anniversaries In 2014, the year that sees Maserati celebrate its centenary, the famous Italian marque renews its partnership with the world of cinema, linking its image to that of the Taormina Film Festival, of which it is the Main Sponsor. Under the agreement, Maserati will provide its Quattroporte and Ghibli models as official cars for the courtesy car service laid on for the many stars attending the screenings. In addition, for the duration of the event, a lounge area called "Casa Taormina" will be set up, while the Grand Hotel Timeo will host the Maserati Terrace, the chosen venue for exclusive pre-film cocktail parties. Running this year from 14th to 21st June, over the course of its sixty year history the Taormina Film Festival, staged against the amazing backdrop of the Greek Theatre, has attracted a string of leading international film stars, from Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan to Sophia Loren and Robert De Niro. Films like "Pretty Woman", "Thelma &Louise", "Basic Instinct" and "Pulp Fiction" all enjoyed successful Italian premieres at Taormina. Maserati has consolidated its links with the world of cinema over the course of its first one hundred years thanks also to the presence of a number of its most iconic models in some of the most seminal Italian and international movies. Indeed, dozens of films have included scenes featuring a Maserati. The first, was a film shot in 1950, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni: “Story of a love affair”. The film starred the lovely Lucia Bosè and an elegant Maserati A6 1500, the Trident marque's first ever GranTurismo. More recently, a fifth generation Quattroporte co-starred in the hugely successful French film directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, “The Intouchables”, driven by actor Omar Sy, who has picked up three Best Actor awards: at the Tokyo International Film Festival in 2011 and at the César Awards and the Lumière Awards in 2012. In the year that sees Maserati celebrate its Centenary, the car manufacturer is enjoying strong growth. Present in approximately seventy markets around the world, Maserati confirms its role as international ambassador of Italian excellence. With an even bigger range, thanks to the new Quattroporte and Ghibli, Maserati is progressively improving its sales figures. With 12,512 cars sold around the world in the first five months of the year, Maserati is advancing quickly towards its ambitious sales targets.
