NHW & Ravenscourt Park Safer Neighbourhoods team

Hello,

I would like to introduce myself. My name is John Sheehan and I am the New Ravenscourt Park Ward Sergeant. I have been working at Hammersmith and Fulham since 2005 and have been mainly on the Response Teams. I am new to the world of Safer Neighbourhood policing. My style of policing is a proactive approach, I want to catch the people who commit crime.

I will hopefully get to meet you all at some point, but feel free to contact me. I value any feedback or information you can pass to me in order to keep your ward safe.

Crime overview for September and crime prevention ini ti ative

Theft from motor vehicle has been quite prevalent on the Askew and Hammersmith Broadway wards over the past month; However, thankfully there hasn’t been that many incidents on our ward over the last month. Burglary has also been particularly low with only one crime being reported.

Camilla McBrearty (H&F community safety officer) and PCSO Jon Wise recently carried out a crime prevention initiative which aims to raise awareness of leaving items appealing to thieves in their vehicles and prevent people from becoming a victim of crime. Patrols were carried out across the entire ward and resident’s houses were knocked on to alert the owner if items were left on display in their vehicles.

I’m pleased to say there wasn’t many vehicles that had anything left on display in comparison to the previous months we carried out patrols!

Home security - Keep Safe Scheme

In an attempt to reduce the number of burglaries and reduce the effects of crime, Hammersmith and Fulham council are running a scheme which aims to improve home security by installing security measures such as effective door and window locks free of charge.

If you are concerned about your home security or have an elderly or vulnerable neighbour you believe may benefit from this scheme then please contact Bishop Creighton House: 020 7385 9689. Web: http://www.creightonhouse.org/safer_homes_security.html

229 King Street

Some residents may be aware of an increase in activity around the hostel on 229 King street with non- residents congregating around the location. In an attempt to combat this issue our team are now issuing section 27 notices to these individuals which enables us to direct people to leave the area for a maximum of 48 hours. If the person who has been directed to leave the area returns before the allotted time has elapsed then they can be arrested. We are working closely with the hostel to try and resolve this issue and the congregation of non residents already appears to be dwindling.

Crime Prevention Advice

• Most vehicle crime is preventable. It can take as little as 10 seconds for a thief to steal something from your car. If at all possible, leave nothing on view. • NEVER leave valuable items in your car, including sunglasses,, loose change, the removable radio cover and your Sat Nav. Do you really need all those things you keep in the glove box? If possible, empty your glove box and leave it open to display no contents. • Wipe away the Sat Nav mark on your windscreen. • Consider fitting anti-tamper screws to your number plate. • Never leave your car keys where they can be seen from the front door

Never • Leave cash, credit cards, chequebook, mobile phones, vehicle documents or other valuables in the car. Never leave your keys in the car, even for a second - treat them as you would your cash and credit cards.

Immobilise

Please visit www.immobilise.com and register your valuables. The service is totally free and is quick and easy to use. Items marked as being registered with Immobilise are less likely to be stolen, and households displaying Immobilise stickers are less likely to be targeted by burglars.
