Preface

The first gazetteer of pipe organs in was prepared by Bruce Naylor in 1969 and resulted from studies leading to a Master of Music degree at the University of Adelaide. Published in 1974 by the Society of Organists (Vic.) Inc., it was the fourth in a series covering all Australian states under the general editorship of John Maidment (later chairman of the Organ Historical Trust of Australia). The original work has been extensively revised and added to as a result of historical research undertaken in the intervening years. Intended as a guide to the historical and technical status of all pipe organs known to exist in South Australia and as accurate as present knowledge permits, it is an evolving document and open to further correction.

A second edition of the Gazetteer of South Australian Pipe Organs was revised over a number of years under the general oversight of David Shield. Significant contributions were made by Scott Angove and Steven Kaesler who thoroughly reviewed the material. Roger Lewis, John Stiller and George Stephens also perused the work and gave valuable advice. Dare Sutton Clarke Engineers provided access to their resources in preparing the draft document.

Acknowledgement

The current revision of the Gazetteer was undertaken by Brenton Brockhouse with further input from Margaret Correll, David Shield and Steven Kaesler.
