  • INITIALS C.C. Liner Notes
Chris Connelly : INITIALS C.C. Out-takes, Rarities and Personal Favourites 1982-2002 vol.1 01. Detestimony – Fini Tribe: This was the “A” side of an EP called “Let the Tribe Grow,” written and recorded when the Fini Tribe was going through great musical changes. We had acquired an Ensoniq ‘Mirage’ sampling keyboard, and as was the same for a lot of bands at the time, it changed everything, opened up a lot of doors, and led us into some very uncharted waters. The actual piece was whittled down from a fifteen-minute opus we had written. I remember being in Philip Pinsky’s bedroom one night with John Vick. Philip’s then-roommate, Lindsay, gave us an old quarter-inch reel of tape he had. On it was a beautiful recording of the church bells you hear on the song; we sampled them and came up with the melody. The EP actually did better than any of us had anticipated and became a sort of hit in the Ibiza clubs at the very advent of the acid house/rave phenomenon. We actually went ahead and re-wrote/re- structured the song for the WaxTrax! Records release (“Make it Internal/Detestimony Revisited”) a couple of years later. 02. Mania – Murder Inc.: Certainly what I feel is the most compelling song on the one and only album released by Murder Inc. The band was basically Killing Joke, minus Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke’s singer), plus me, as well as the original drummer, Paul Fergusson, and newer drummer, Martin Atkins. The sessions took place at Pachyderm Studios in rural Minnesota during September of 1991.

Page 6 V 0L 99, No. 50 Published for San Jose State University since 1934 November 6, 1992 Student My achy-breaky back withdraws vi complaint Student cites lack of time BY KERRY PETERS Spartan Daily Stall Writer A complaint against the Campus Democrats alleging verbal and physical threats has been dropped. Marcia Holstrom, the student who filed the letter of complaint, decided to drop her charges. "It's just not worth it:' Holstrom said. "I don't have the time, and I don't have the energy to fight it:' The complaint, addressed to Dan Buerger, execu- tive assistant to Interim President J. Handel Evans, was filed last week after Holstrom interrupted a Campus Democrats press conference on Oct. 22 at Tower Quad. Holstrom said she interrupted the con- ference because she objected to the group's use of the university seal which she thought might lead people to believe SJSU was endorsing Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton for president. When Holstrom came forward at the event, sever- al members of the group hosting the event verbally attacked her, Holstrom said, and threatened to "take care of her later:' prompting her to file the complaint. However, members of the Campus Democrats and other people who participated in the event PATTI EAGAN SPARTAN DAILY denied Holstrom's charges. Carol Sullivan, In her step training class, pushes her students to the limit every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Spartan Complex. Holstrom said that after talking to Phil Sanders, Step training is a type of aerobics that emphasizes a cardiovascular workout and muscle toning without the stress to the joints.

"What's the difference between Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson," singer David Yow asks those assembled at Exit/In in Nashville, TN. "About five hours." And so the mayhem begins on a bad joke and a frenetic "Puss," with Yow almost instantly lost to the PICKS cameras, surfing his way into the abyss of the crowd. Save for anti-climatic final album Blue , the band's original line-up (Yow, guitarist Duane Denison, drummer Mac McNeilly and bassist David Wm. Sims) touch upon every full-length and EP they released, demonstrating how strongly their songs, including torching versions of "Killer McHann" and "One Evening," stand up today. There's actually nothing dated or putridly nostalgic about this exercise; the Jesus Lizard are like an ageless, un-caged animal with scores to settle and points to prove, particularly http://exclaim.ca/Reviews/MusicDvd/jesus_lizard-club 10/13/2011 The Jesus Lizard - Club • Music DVD Reviews • exclaim.ca Page 2 of 4 since they went out rather unceremoniously in 1999 as a weakened, incomplete unit.

Excerpts from what the press has said about some of Cheer-Accident’s past releases: WHAT SEQUEL? 2006 PRAVDA Featuring: Scott Ashley (Guitar), Thymme Jones (Vocals, Drums, Clarinet, Trumpet, Recorder, various keyboard instruments), Jeff Libersher (Bass, Guitar, Piano, Trumpet, bg. Vocals), John McEntire (Overdubs, Mixing), Julie Pomerleau (Violin), Jessica Ruffins (Engineer), Toby Summerfield (Double Bass) “Cheer-Accident seems to thrive on the contradictions of experimental music. For every straight-ahead piano-driven pop number there's a song flailing hard rock riffs with abandon, and usually these two opposing genres are place right next to one another. …the group does an admirable job synthesizing an avant-garde pop collection from decades old indie rock basics and eccentric asides. There are shades of Pavement, Unwound and Sonic Youth in the slightly atonal slacker guitar strum on "Keep in Touch," the pogoing chorus punctuation seems particularly Malkmus-ian. "Go Gone Green" has a great drive of '70s prog/jazz... Jesus Lizard skronk spreads out all over "Surviving a Methodology;" chugging guitars cut a sinister path through a rhythm section bent on strange time signatures. …as an album of '90s fringe indie rock revisited, it's a fine statement.” – Aaron Shaul, Ink 19, July 2007, www.ink19.com “… Cheer-Accident has been dirtying their hands in some form or another for over twenty-years and it’s obvious that music is the fruit of their hard work. … What Sequel? finds the band actually introducing the word “concise” into their terminology, thanks in large part to the efforts of producer John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea And Cake).
