    DRACUT SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING School Committee Meeting Minutes Date: March 9, 2020 Location: Town Hall, 62 Arlington Street, Douglas Willett Board of Selectmen Chambers School Committee Members Present: Allison Volpe, Chair Betsy Murphy, 1st Vice Chair Susan Koufogazos, 2nd Vice Chair Joseph Wilkie Sabrina Heisey School Personnel and Others Present: Steven Stone, Superintendent of Schools Thomas Lafleur, School Business Administrator Attorney Brian Akashian Cynthia Curtis, Recording Secretary Call to Order: The Dracut School Committee meeting was called to order by Mrs. Volpe at 7:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence: Mrs. Volpe called for a pledge of allegiance and moment of silence. Approval of Minutes: 1. Motion by Mrs. Murphy, seconded by Mr. Wilkie to approve the minutes of the February 24, 2020 school committee meeting. Vote: Unanimously Approved Approval of Bills and Payrolls: Bills and payrolls will be signed at the conclusion of the meeting. Presentation by Student Representative: Shakira Kawuba provided an update of events at Dracut High School. The high school spring musical is the Wizard of Oz. Sports Awards are scheduled for March 11. Cap and gown measurements for seniors is scheduled for March 13. Public Hearing: 2. Motion by Mrs. Volpe, seconded by Mrs. Murphy to open the Public Hearing for the FY21 Budget. 1 Dracut School Committee Minutes – March 9, 2020 Roll Call Vote: Mr. Wilkie Yes Mrs. Koufogazos Yes Mrs. Murphy Yes Mrs. Heisey Yes Mrs. Volpe Yes Vote: Motion passes 5-0 Superintendent Stone provided a presentation and review of the FY21 Budget. Mr. Stone recognized the Town of Dracut on the many non-recurring projects that have been funded, such as Technology Infrastructure Project, Security Infrastructure Project, Renovation of Dracut High, various supplemental appropriations for smaller physical plant repairs and FY20 funding to eliminate a current year transportation deficit.

    For Immediate Release - August 17, 2015 Treasury Announces Grant Recipients Of Financial Education Innovation Fund Division of Banks Settlement Funds to Expand Financial Literacy for Young Consumers BOSTON, MA – State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg announced today the recipients of the Financial Education Innovation Fund, an initiative that will provide grants to expand financial literacy fairs in high schools across the Commonwealth. The grants are funded from the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation through its Division of Banks settlement over alleged unlawful lending practices. “I have experienced firsthand the critical skills these ‘Credit for Life’ fairs teach our high school students,” said Treasurer Goldberg. “These new grants will help students to budget their money responsibly and make informed financial decisions as they prepare to enter college or begin their careers.” Through an extensive application process that culminated in June, the Treasurer’s Office awarded 20 high schools across the Commonwealth nearly $70,000 in grant money to expand upon or establish programs. “The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation through its Division of Banks is proud to support the expansion of financial education initiatives at the high school level in the Commonwealth,” said Undersecretary John Chapman. “The ‘Credit for Life’ fairs are fun and interactive for the students who participate, and I look forward to continuing our partnership with Treasurer Goldberg on future financial education initiatives.” Originally announced the fund was $50,000, but due to the number and quality of the applications received the fund was expanded to $70,000. The innovation fund will be an ongoing effort to expand financial literacy, so schools will have the opportunity to apply next year.

On behalf of Massachusetts Hockey, we would like to welcome you to the National Bound State Championships. With 56 teams across five categories competing this weekend, parents, fans and scouts will have the opportunity to watch some of the best youth hockey in the country. The tournament formats will be as follows: 1. Tournament Committee will review the rankings at each level and set the tournament fields on Monday November 5th, based upon the most current MyHockeyRankings available to the Tournament Committee. 2. 16U & 18U Tier I & Tier II formats will be 12 team fields. a. Top 4 seeded teams at each level receive a bye into the round of 8 teams. b. Seeds 5 through 12 play on the first night of the tournament with the winners advancing to play the Top 4 seeds in the second round of the tournament based upon a set bracket. 3. 15 Only Tier I format will be an 8-team field. 4. In the event the number of 16U & 18U Tier I & Tier II eligible teams or applicants is less than 12 teams, the Tournament Committee may reduce the tournament field and increase the number of byes awarded accordingly. 5. The tournaments will follow the tiebreaker procedure as outlined in the 2018-19 USA Hockey District and National Championship Guidebook (available online at USAHockey.com).
