Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity, Department of Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523 Abstract A list of 1531 species ofLepidoptera is presented, collected over 15 years (1988 to 2002), in eleven southern West Virginia counties. A variety of collecting methods was used, including netting, light attracting, light trapping and pheromone trapping. The specimens were identified by the currently available pictorial sources and determination keys. Many were also sent to specialists for confirmation or identification. The majority of the data was from Kanawha County, reflecting the area of more intensive sampling effort by the senior author. This imbalance of data between Kanawha County and other counties should even out with further sampling of the area. Key Words: Appalachian Mountains, -

Pheromone Lures Non-Intended Target Species
Updated July 2021 ALS ALS have been selling pheromone lures since 2004 and started with the Clearwing Classic Six. Over the years we have extended our range with new species, some of which have been made specifically to our demand while also adding lures for various other species of moths. We have collated all our data, much of which have been passed on to us by many customers of which we thank very much especially Tim Green and Graham Ekins (Essex), to produce the below non-target species data base. Pheromone lures are made up of between 4-6 compounds and it is some of these ‘base’ compounds which are acting as an attractant to other species. Although some of the species listed are quite rare to synthetic lure, others do seem to be more frequent. The below data is from the UK and Europe. Moths of Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge
U.S. FishFish & & Wildlife Wildlife Service Service Moths of Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge Established in 1994, the 25,000-acre Givira arbeloides Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge Prionoxystus robiniae is a remnant of what was once a much Carpenterworm Moth larger, frequently flooded, bottomland hardwood forest. You are still able to Crambid Snout Moths (Crambidae) view vast expanses of ridge and swale Achyra rantalis floodplain features, numerous bayous, Garden Webworm Moth oxbow lakes, and cypress/tupelo swamps Aethiophysa invisalis along the Trinity River. It is one of Argyria lacteella only 14 priority-one bottomland sites Milky Urola Moth identified for protection in the Texas Carectocultus perstrialis Bottomland Protection Plan. Texas is Reed-boring Crambid Moth home to an estimated 4,000 species of Chalcoela iphitalis moths. Most of the nearly 400 species of Sooty-winged Chalcoela moths listed below were photographed Chrysendeton medicinalis around the security lights at the Refuge Bold Medicine Moth Headquarters building located adjacent Colomychus talis to a bottomland hardwood forest. Many Distinguished Colomychus more moths are not even attracted to Conchylodes ovulalis lights, so additional surveys will need Zebra Conchylodes to be conducted to document those Crambus agitatellus species. These forests also support a Double-banded Grass-veneer wide diversity of mammals, reptiles, Crambus satrapellus amphibians, and fish with many feeding Crocidophora tuberculalis on moths or their larvae. LA GESSE And JAMES R.WIKER Adjunct Research Associates Zoology Department Illinois State Museum Springfield, Illinois 217-525-1410 [email protected] I Siloam Springs State Park, Adams/Brown County, Illinois Insect Survey 1997-2000 Introduction Approximately 2000 species of Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) occur in Illinois. These species are important to the ecosystem because of their association with the flora of this area. The larval stages are primary plant consumers, and the adult forms are pollinators. In addition, they are a common food resource for many species of birds, mammals and other arthropods. Many species, especially those restricted by host plant requirements, serve as indirect indicators of habitat quality (LaGesse et al. 1996). With the current interest in land management and maintaining plant and animal diversity, a formal insect survey was conducted . During the growing season of 1997 through 1999, 15 diurnal and 9 nocturnal surveys for Lepidoptera were performed over a three-year period by the senior author. Materials and Methods Prairies (mesic to dry), oak- hickory woodlands, oak barrens stream/creek edges and the lake communities were sampled at Siloam Springs State Park . Insects were sampled by various methods. Sampling included capture and release of species easily identified and preservation of voucher representatives to confirm identification of species . All voucher specimens will be deposited with the author's collection or the Illinois State Museum (ISM), Springfield, Illinois . -

(Corresponding author: Phong Huy Pham) (Received 08 July, 2014, Accepted 08 September, 2014) ABSTRACT: Hypsopygia postflava, a snout moth parasitic on the nest of the paper wasp Polistes olivaceus was reported first time, with studies on its biology. Head width of moth larvae from third instar and over was difficult to specify because of great variety. The duration of life cycle of H. postflava was 40.46±4.96 days, ranging from 33 to 49 days. Life time of both female adult and male adult was equal (in the 6-9 day range). Survivorship ratio was, for larvae 88%, and for pupae 82.5%. Sex ratio of H. postflava in laboratory experiments (♀:♂) was 1: 1.26 in comparison with 1: 1.55 of that of adult moths emerged from the nest of the paper wasp P. olivaceus. The average number of eggs having in the body of the female adult was 88.93. However female adults only laid a mean of 39.39 eggs during their lifetime. Female adults laid eggs singly or in clumps of a few eggs. The mean ratio of hatched eggs was very low (18.98%).
