The Press Guide, which you are holding in your hands contains basic information for journalists relating to the Birell Prague Grand Prix. Other important facts about the race and elite athletes are presented in the Event Guide. The reserved place for media at finish will be available from 7:45 p.m. to 8:20. p.m. 7 CHARITY RUN FOR A GOOD CAUSE Running and charity are connected together, even if it is not clear at first glance. For a good cause is going to run 275 runners. • Main charity partner of the Birell Prague Grand Prix is non governmental organization Light for the world, with a special focus on eye health and prevention of blindness. More inforatmation at www.svetloprosvet.cz • RunCzech cooperates approximately with 25 non-profit organizations that buy start numbers for discount- ed price and then sell them for their own price. • In 2014 ran 3,867 runners for a good cause who contributed to the non-profit sector by85,470 EUR. • Virgin London Marathon is considered to be the biggest fundraising sport event in the world. Since 1981 it has been taken out already more than 6 milion pound thanks to running. START TO RUN WITH MATTONI FREERUN! The Mattoni FreeRun is a network of running trails all over the Czech Republic. Individually, they are 5km long and they are verified by thousands of runners. A MattoniFreeRun coach was assigned to each of these trails. This coach will be organizing running groups and preparing trainings. The coaches will connect to other runners through Facebook groups and the RunCzech mobile app, which allows users to communicate and compare results easily. Nel 1994 ha fondato la società Prague International Marathon spol, s r.o. (PIM), realizzando un progetto volto a sviluppare un innovativo circuito di eventi podistici nella Repubblica Ceca, nonché un nuovo ed alternativo mezzo di comunicazione per brands intenzionati ad entrare o consolidare la loro posizione sul mercato. PIM organizza tre eventi podistici a Praga, la Prague Marathon, Prague Half Marathon e la Prague Grand Prix. Prague/ A mixture of victory and failure for the top favourites, celebrities and ordinary folk alike seeing their dreams come to life, record participation with more than nine thousand runners, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Prague’s Old Town. You could experience all this and more at this year’s 18th ever Volkswagen Prague Marathon. Emerging as the all-out winner, was Ethiopian Deressa Chimsa scooping up the second best race time ever for Prague at 2:06:25. "I believed in myself. I knew that I’d done enough training, that I could deliver a quality performance. I helped to push away from the pace maker in the leading group and then just went all out to win. I’m pleased", he said. In stark contrast to this, Elite runner, Lydia Cheromei dropped out at the 38 th km. She set herself a riveting pace at the start and for a while was running ahead all alone. However when fellow Kenyan runner, Agnes Kiprop caught her up, she realised she couldn’t keep her pace and had to drop out. "She just told me, try it alone, I’m having problems, try it", commented the winner. She passed the finish line with a time of 2:25:41. When it came to the men, there was no shortage of Kenyan runners in the list of top results - Stephen Tum was satisfied finishing up second in his second ever marathon race.

    PRESS RELEASE 24. 4. 2013 Anticipating race records at the Volkswagen Prague Marathon The start of this year’s Volkswagen Prague Marathon will be displaying an impressive line- up of elite runners. But will the participating African runners succeed in smashing the current race records? Manager of Elite Athletes taking part the race, Jana Moberly certainly believes it’s a distinct possibility: “We’ve got some top runners and, providing the weather conditions are right, we can start to think about this.” Albert Kiplagat Matebor is the number one and as such stands as the favourite to win. The 32-year old Kenyan running talent managed to complete the Frankfurt Marathon the year before last with a time of 2:05:25. Kiptanui’s record in Prague from 2010 is only 14 seconds behind this. Matebor is back in top form after returning from a break. He earned his living work on a farm and enjoys spending his free time listening to Kenyan music. He triumphed at the famous Gothenburg Half Marathon two years ago. His compatriots Mariko Kiplagat Kipchumba (2:06:05) and Benjamin Kolum Kiptoo (2:06:31) aren’t too far behind him however. “They can all mutually help each other push past the 2:06 boundary,” Jana Moberly predicts. Philemon Limo also features on the list of top stars having secured himself a number of fantastic times on Czech soil from half marathon courses as well as the 10 km Mattoni Grand Prix race which he still holds the record for with a time of 27:34.

Race Director of the ING New York City Marathon, Mary Wittenberg who is visiting Prague for the first time to mark the occasion, offered the following praise: “The idea of creating a place for people to meet which all runners can draw inspiration from, is absolutely great. We had been thinking about doing the same, however you’ve beaten us to it” The ground floor will be home to the main reception which also boasts a cafe and water bar, a specialized adidas running store, a conference room and running club. On top of this, runners will be able to take advantage of the facilities including dressing rooms and showers, and use the venue as a kind of launch pad before heading out for a run in nearby Stromovka or Letna Park – two of the city’s leading running spots. The top floor is to be allocated as the main base for Prague International Marathon team, which heads the RunCzech Running League. This year the league anticipates seeing up to eighty thousand participants take part in its races. “Until now we’ve only ever had chance to meet up with runners for a few days during the year, always around race time. But now we’ll be able to have them here every day. It will have a positive impact on everyone and I’m sure we’ll be able to draw inspiration from one another.
