Roger Hughes is a TV and radio sports broadcaster with over forty years experience. Moving to South Wales, he came across the Gary Hocking story, a gripping tale which needed to be told. Bike Rider Magazine This is an easy to read and entertaining book, and is a fitting tribute to a man who, as the title suggests, is largely forgotten Old Bike Australasia There is only enough room to touch on Roger's moving and comprehensive work here - but believe me, it's brilliant, with two separate page blocks of glossy black and white photographs I would recommend it to every Old Bike Mart reader. Old Bike Mart this book is a fitting tribute to a forgotten champion. Jonathan Hill - freelance Hughes has done a superb job in redressing the lack of a book on Hocking and produced a riveting read based on fact that has you turning page after page, totally engrossed. This book is a fitting tribute to a forgotten champion who quite rightly will now be remembered. Ian Kerr This is a thoroughly fascinating and interesting book about a long forgotten champion and I thoroughly recommend it. Author Roger Hughes has really done his homework in speaking with most of those involved with Gary in his racing career on two wheels and four. He writes well and clearly has a feel for racing as it was nearly 60 years ago. Gary Hocking tried to give way to death when, inhe cornered the Senior Sox: Gary Hocking the Forgotten World Motorcycle Champion in which the Australian Tom Phillips Honda died, decided to move tot eh automobile competition, more secure to his appearance. At that tine, this young and charismatic pilot from Wales, the great British promise of the time, had already won the cc and cc World Championship inin addition to Sox: Gary Hocking the Forgotten World Motorcycle Champion cc, cc and cc sub championships inand the cc in Its trajectory was unstoppable. Today is a perfect unknown for fans. This autobiography of Roger Hughes is the first dedication to Sox Hocking plotted without wearing that garmenta race broker who won titles with MZ and MV Augusta, and whose meteoric career ended suddenly, at twenty-five, on board a Lotus-Climax V8 in the free runs of the Christmas Grand Prix. • Note 138: Isle of Man TT Mountain Circuit:- Course
P.1 of 9 Note 138 Isle of Man TT Mountain circuit:- Course Records Writing Note 137 about Indianapolis reminded this author that there is another circuit used for racing since 1911 which is almost unchanged – the Isle of Man Mountain circuit. This Note reviews the course records achieved there by Tourist Trophy motor-cycles and puts them in perspective with the machine Power/Weight ratios. The Mountain course of 37.73 miles used since 1920* rises to a height of 1,400 feet. It had a large surface change from mostly loose to tarmacadamed by 1925 and has had many corners “eased” since then but its plan is essentially unchanged. Unlike Indianapolis, with its 4 left-hand quarter- circle corners, it has 264 bends of every description! The plan is shown below. DASO 1246 *For the 1911-1914 races the course was 37.7 miles. In 1920 a change was made for the last few miles from Cronk-ny-Mona to bring the Start/Finish line onto the Glencrutchery Road. Course Record list As there does not seem to be readily available a consolidated list of outright Course Records one has been assembled from various sources. It is given in Appendix A at P. 6. There may be omissions. The figures are plotted on Fig. 1 at P.2 below, with various appropriate notes. Page 2 Contents Foreword 3 Netherlands 5 Belgium 44 Germany 78 Austria 133 Luxembourg & Switzerland 148 Copyright © Rob Semmeling 2009-2016 / all rights reserved www.wegcircuits.nl Rennen! Races! Vitesse! Page 3 Foreword Motorsport essentially consists of three ingredients. First, you need a motor vehicle - which can be anything from a Formula 1 car to a lawn mower, or from a MotoGP motorcycle to a pocket bike. Second, you need a driver or rider to operate the vehicle, and finally, a place to go racing - a circuit. To most people this last ingredient is probably the least interesting. The number of books about famous racing drivers and cars, or great riders and their motorcycles, is far larger than the number of books about racing circuits. However, to me circuits are the most interesting aspect of motorsport, for two main reasons. First is their great diversity: in terms of shape, layout, length, difficulty, fame and many other factors, every circuit is different, and each has its own story to tell. Second, it is fascinating to see just how many circuits there are. Once you start looking, you can find them just about any- where. Finding lost circuits or discovering long-forgotten tracks is one of the most fun aspects of researching racing circuits. When looking for information about racing circuits online, I often found it frustrating that the available sources were not complete, and that they often lacked detail and accuracy. This is one of the reasons why I started my website www.wegcircuits.nl and why I made Rennen! Races! Vitesse! - a downloadable pdf-file that lists racing circuits of past and present in four European countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Austria.

Count Agusta’s response was to hire Gilera’s chief designer Piero Remor together with its chief mechanic, Arturo Magni in 1950. However, the new Remor-designed 125cc four-stroke was not an immediate success, scoring only a single points-paying finish in 1950 and just one podium result in ’51, the latter courtesy of new arrival Les Graham. It was only following Mondial’s withdrawal from racing that MV bagged its first 125cc World Championship, Cecil Sandford taking the riders’ title in 1952.

  • THE NATAL GRAND PRIX (22Nd December, 1962)
THE SPRINGBOK SERIES OF 1962 Formula One motor racing was very strong in South Africa in the early I960's. There was a colossal entry for the two races prior to the South African Grand Prix of 1962. The races were the Rand Grand Prix at the Kyalami Circuit on December 15th and the Natal Grand Prix at Westmead on December 22nd. So popular were they that there was not enough room for everyone who entered and so the organisers ruled that there would be a qualifying time. At Kyalami it was 1 min 45 sees. THE RAND GRAND PRIX: (15th December, 1962) The entrants for the Rand Grand Prix included the usual Lotus and BRM teams as well as others from England. There were also Coopers, other older Lotuses, a Lola and specials of South African build like the LDS, the Assegai and the Netuar. However, by far the most unusual Clark led all the way and won the race itself, followed closely by entrant was the much modified 1958 Lotus Seven Series One of Cape Taylor, Surtees and Hocking with the Seven finishing in a respectable Towner.
