A MESSAGE FROM STEVEN REED, PRESIDENT During my tenure as President, I have had the privilege to continue the momentum established this past decade to ensure that the foundation for Canada Soccer Nation would be further strengthened. Although this Annual Report reflects on the year of 2019, it is that solid footing that has guided us through an unprecedented time in not only our sport but our world. When I reflect on what I will remember most fondly about my three years as President of Canada Soccer, it all comes down to one thing: the people. It is the people within the Canadian soccer community who have banded together to ensure that our players, coaches, officials, volunteers, fans and their families are safe and will return to the pitch and the sidelines when they are secure. It’s about the team this organization has assembled over the last 10 years who, collectively, have brought us to where we are today – the proud co-hosts, with Mexico and the United States, of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™. We are a country to which other FIFA nations now see as a leader in the soccer world. It’s about Peter Montopoli, who as General Secretary brought necessary professionalism to the organization that laid the foundation for all the successes that followed. It’s about my predecessor and now Concacaf President, Victor Montagliani, who believed in—and advanced—our dream of hosting a men’s FIFA World Cup™ on Canadian soil for the first time. It’s about John Herdman, who revamped the women’s program, taking our Women’s National Team to back-to-back bronze medals at the Olympic Games and a place among the top countries in the world. -

Vol. 2 No. 2 April, 1999 The Grand Dispatch A brief history of Beckley Beach and the surrounding area Those sports from Beckley Beach Reg Wheeler, a Hamilton Tiger, and Reg remains involved with the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum as Deputy Chairman of the Management Wildcat! Committee and Chairman of the Inductee Dinner Committee. In another Dispatch, I will bring you back to Recently, I read an article in the Hamilton Spectator titled Reg and tell you about his rowing accomplishments. “Reg Wheeler brags about his rowing crew in rhyme.” The gist of the article was a rhyme that Reg wrote about his team mates in the Leander Boat Club Heavy Eights rowing team. I do a bit of volunteer work at the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum. One day, while filing, I found scattering references to people from Beckley Beach. With Reg’s story of poetry fame and my finding this information, I decided what to write about in this issue of the Grand Dispatch. It would be people connected to sports and to Beckley Beach. Many have made considerable contributions to the sporting world, most particularly to the Hamilton Football scene. Reg Wheeler (lot 44-A) Reg was a valuable asset to the Hamilton Tiger football team in 1937, through 1940. With the arrival of World War Two, football took a back seat for a few years. Various teams continued but Reg did not return to the game until 1944 when he joined the Hamilton Wildcats, as a middle wing. Reg remained with the Wildcats until 1948. -

To host soccer games, a new QSC Power Amplifiers facility, Tim Hortons Field, was erected in the city of Hamilton. The multi-purpose facility 64-Channel Q-Sys Core Processing by QSC sits on the former site of the venerable Ivor Wynne Stadium, home to Hamilton’s Canadian Football League (CFL) franchise, the Tiger-Cats. Challenges • Creating a sound system to meet the exacting standards of both FIFA (soccer’s governing body) and the CFL • While high output was needed for crowd control and urgent public PA messages, pattern control was crucial to keep sound from spilling over into the nearby residential area Solution After reviewing the stadium’s SPL requirements along with the mounting locations for the loudspeakers, it was clear to Fulcrum Acoustic co-founder Dave Gunness, working with project consultant Dave Clark, that the project required a higher-output solution than was currently available. To meet the need, Fulcrum created a brand new product, the AH463, a higher-output version of the AH family noted for its high sensitivity, high power handling, exacting pattern control and compact footprint. -
