TONIGHT’S GAME The Flyers resume their 2017-18 schedule following their bye week as they visit the New Jersey Devils in the 43rd game of the year and 20th on the road. The Flyers are 19-15-8 for 46 points and are looking to continue a three-game winning streak after a 4-1 win over Buffalo last Sunday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers have played just six games in the last 20 days dating back to the start of the NHL’s Christmas break on December 24, and tonight start a stretch of seven games in 13 days between now and the All- Star break. That run consists of two road, then two home, then two road and then one more at home, but the Flyers don’t leave the Eastern time zone and don’t go any further away than Detroit. There is one back-to-back set in the run, Jan. 20 vs. the Devils in Philadelphia followed by a visit to Washington the next night. After tonight’s game, the Flyers next head to Madison Square Garden to take on the Rangers on Monday.

NOTES OF THE NIGHT

The Flyers have scored a total of 16 goals over their last three games. Eight different players come into tonight’s game on multi-game scoring streaks.

Claude Giroux was tabbed as the Flyers’ representative to the 2018 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend. It will be his fifth All-Star appearance. Giroux is the Flyers’ leading scorer on the season with 14 goals and 38 assists for 52 points in 42 games, a pace that is tied for the best of his career over 42 games. In 2011-12, Giroux also had 52 points (18G, 34A) over the first 42 games. He completed that season with a career-high 93 points. Heading into Friday night’s NHL action, Giroux was tied with four other players for second in the NHL in scoring. He enters tonight’s game tied with Mark Recchi for eighth all-time on the Flyers scoring list with 627 career points. At his current scoring pace, Giroux is within reach of fifth all-time this season. He is 16 points behind John LeClair, 23 behind Tim Kerr and 32 behind Eric Lindros.

Jake Voracek comes into the game with eight goals and 43 assists for 51 points, one back of Giroux. Voracek maintained the league lead in assists throughout the bye week, sitting three ahead of three players – including Giroux – entering last night’s games, and was tied with several other players for sixth in the league in scoring.

Sean Couturier leads the Flyers with 23 goals on the season, a total that ranked fourth in the league entering last night’s games. His old career high for a full season was 15. Couturier is coming off consecutive two-goal games and had the GWG in each of them. Couturier became the fifth Flyer since 2005-06 to reach the 20-goal mark at or before the season’s halfway point.

Robert Hagg has 138 hits on the season, which entering last night was tied for second in the NHL and was 35 more than the next closest rookie. Hagg also has 59 blocked shots, which leads all rookies, and his TOI of 18:49 is second among rookies.

Shayne Gostisbehere comes out of the break with 32 points, which was tied for fourth among defensemen entering last night’s games. His points-per-game average of 0.82 ranks second third among blueliners.
