There are no set fee schedules but each society does publish guidelines, which are available to the public; however, it is not mandatory for an attorney to follow these guidelines.
The initials “Q.C.” following an attorney’s name indicate that he/she has been given honorary recognition as a member of the Queen’s Counsel. This is in most cases granted by the Provincial Government only to attorneys with over ten year’s active practice.

THE OMBUDSMAN:
Each province has a provincial Ombudsman who investigates complaints made by individuals concerning administrative decisions and acts of provincial government officials and agencies. Complaints to the Ombudsman must be in writing. An investigation is carried out privately and the complainant is informed of the results. The Ombudsman does not handle matters dealing with trial, conviction, and length of sentence, which must be dealt with through the courts by established appeal procedures.
