Introduction Long term studies of Vietnamese Rhopalocera suggest that by using a taxonomic composition analysis of the modern fauna, with ecological and biogeographical characteristics and comparative data with butterfly faunas of adjacent regions, it is possible to offer a plausible account of the history and derivation of the Vietnamese fauna. In former works on the butterfly fauna of Vietnam and of the Oriental tropics generally, we completed the first steps in understanding possible derivation mechanisms for the group. In particular, all Vietnamese butterfly species have been classified according to their global geographical ranges (Holloway, 1973; 1974; Spitzer et al., 1993; Monastyrskii, 2006; 2007), from the most restricted to the most widespread (Methods). A similar approach for notodontid moths in Thailand has been adopted by Schintlmeister & Pinratana (2007). Moreover, depending on the representation of various species distribution range categories, a scheme of biogeographical zonation has been suggested (Monastyrskii, 2006; 2007). In continuing studies on the specificity and derivation of the modern Vietnam butterfly fauna, aspects of species range configuration and other parameters of butterfly distribu‐ tions are considered in the current work. For example, it is possible to assign genera to groups according to both their overall range and variation of their species-richness across that range (Holloway, 1969, 1974) or according to representation of particular species range types within the genera (Holloway, 1998). -
A New Subspecies of Aemona Lena Atkinson, 1871 from S. Yunnan, China

Yunnan, China (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae) by SONG-YUN LANG received 26.XI.2016 Abstract: A new subspecies, Aemona lena houae subspec. nov. from Pu’er, Southern Yunnan Province, China, is descri- bed and illustrated in this paper. Introduction: The genus Aemona HEWITSON, [1868] (Morphinae: Amathusiini) was reviewed by NIshIMURA (1999) based upon typical materials kept in the Natural History Museum, London, and two species were recognised by him, viz. A. amathusia (HEWITSON, 1867) and A. lena ATKINSON, 1871. Soon afterwards, DEVYATKIN & MONASTYRSKII (2004, 2008) and DEVYATKIN (2007) studied A. amathusia (HEWITSON) again in a more meticulous way and additionally re- cognised 7 species and 1 subspecies similar to A. amathusia (HEWITSON) and thereafter MONASTYRSKII (2011) divided Aemona into two species group, viz. amathusia-group and lena-group. Aemona lena ATKINSON was described, based upon specimen collected by ANDERSON from S.-W. Yunnan [Momien = Tengchong (ANDERSON, 1876)] and additional 5 subspecies were described by TYTLER (1926, 1939), they are A. l. haynei TYTLER, 1926 from Maymyo, N. Shan States, A. l. kalawrica TYTLER, 1939 from Kalaw, S. Shan States, A. l. karennia TYTLER, 1939 from Thandaung, Karen Hills, A. l. kentunga TYTLER, 1939 from Loimwe in the extreme south-east of the Southern Shan States, and A. l. salweena TYTLER, 1939 from Papun, Mal-hong-song, Salween District, Upper Tenasserim and W. Until now, four species have been recognised from this genus, they are: T. odana (GODART , 1824), T. noureddin WESTWOOD , 1851, T. klugius (ZINKEN -SOMMER , 1831) and T. diores DOUBLE - DAY , 1845. Nandogea hainana CROWLEY , 1900 was described from Hainan Island as a distinct spe- cies only basing upon superficial characters. ELECTRONIC SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL Prehistorical Climate Change Increased Diversification of a Group of Butterflies Carlos Peña, Niklas Wahlberg 2. SUPPLEMENTARY METHODS 1. Taxon Sampling. We included 77 representative genera from the satyrine clade sensu( Wahlberg et al., 2003) as represented in Ackery et al. s (1999) classification for Charaxinae and Amathusiini, Lamas (2004) s for Morphini and Brassolini, including all major lineages in Satyrinae found in our previous paper (Peña et al., 2006), and two outgroup genera (Libythea and Danaus). All sequences have been deposited in GenBank. Appendix S1 shows the sampled species in their current taxonomic classification and GenBank accession numbers. 2. DNA isolation. We extracted DNA from two butterfly legs, dried or freshly conserved in 96% alcohol and kept at -80C until DNA extraction. Total DNA was isolated using QIAGEN s DNeasy extraction kit (Hilden, Germany) following the manufacturer s instructions. 3. PCR amplification. For each species, we amplified five nuclear genes and one mitochondrial gene by PCR using published primers (Table S1). Amplification was performed in 20 µL volume PCR reactions: 12.5 µL distilled water, 2.0 µL 10x buffer, 2.0 µL MgCl, 1.0 µL of each primer, 0.4 µL dNTP, 0.1 µL of AmpliTaq Gold polymerase and 1.0 µL of DNA extract. The reaction cycle profile consisted in a denaturation phase at 95C for 5 min, followed by 35 cycles of denaturation at 94C for 30s, annealing at 47 55C (depending on primers) for 30s, 72C for 1 min 30s, and a final extension period of 72C for 10 min. 4. -

The distributional pattern of the howqua-group is studied basing upon examined materials, literatures and other available informations. For the above-mentioned distributional pattern, a hypothesis of its cause of formation is given, it is the invasion of S. suffusa LEECH during the Holocene Epoch. The Stichophthalma howqua (WESTWOOD , 1851)-group (Morphinae: Amathusiini) includes two species, they are S. howqua (WESTW .) and S. suffusa LEECH , 1892. Before MONASTYRSKII & DEVYATKIN (2008), all taxa of the howqua-group had been considered as a single species, namely S. howqua (WESTW .). The two species can be easily distinguished from each other by the following external character: Dorsal hindwing with black arrow markings are distinct in S. howqua (WESTW .)
