I've been watching the series on Nick Jr and I think this new series is decently enjoyable it's good nice humour and a great impressive style of cgi animation. However it's not as charming as the first 2 movies were or even the tv series because I find this to be more aimed towards younger children than something the whole Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures can enjoy. His visit to the hospital gets an over- privileged Mr. Curry back on his feet. In Paris, Paddington gets involved in a Tour de France bike race. He wins, making the Castille Village famous. Paddington practices dancing for a Charity Ball. His dance with his partner does not go as planned, but wins first place. Padding travels back and forth on the London Underground trains, with Judy and Mrs. Brown looking for him. In Japan, Paddington visits a Sumo Wrestling school, but in training confronts and eventually outwits the champion Yokozuna. Paddington accidentally locks Mr. Curry in Mr. Brown's birthday surprise Sauna, but eventually manages to rescue him. Paddington thinks his money has been stolen in a robbery. He is mistaken for a suspect, but the real crook is caught shortly. Paddington goes on a fishing trip with Mr. Gruber and Admiral Grundae. They are all marooned on an island. Paddington participates Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures Job Week hoping to raise money for Aunt Lucy. Helping Mr. Curry seems to spell disaster, but it works Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures well. Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures takes Judy, Jonathan and Paddington to the Lucman stately home. Paddington causes Lucman some inconvenience during the tour. Gruber and Paddington go on a tour of the opal mining capital Coober Pedy. By chance, Paddington uncovers Black Opals. Paddington helps out at Mr. Sloop's barber shop, coming across an American who takes an interest in Mr. Gruber's antiques. The Brown family go to Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures beach. Paddington is washed out to Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures, but Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures rescued by two fishermen. On a visit in Egypt with Mr. Gruber, Paddington is conned by a trickster, but Gruber sorts him out. Paddington buys Mr. Gruber a rock for his patio, causing a few mishaps on the way. The rock makes a perfect coffee stand. Padding does detective work to find who stole Mr. Brown's prized pumpkin, but unwittingly gets a common burglar to be caught. On a tour in an Irish castle, Paddington and Mr. Gruber help a youngling to rekindle her fascination of the old Leprechaun stories. The Brown family go to watch a play at the theatre. Paddington goes backstage and helps to improve the performance. Brown is in trouble with court for a driving mishap. Then Paddington takes Mr. Brown's Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures test for him. In Montana, Mr. Gruber and Paddington practice horse riding. Billy Bob steals Loretta's cows, but Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures caught and the cows recovered. Brown and Judy take Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures to the mall. He gets elevator sick, then wanders around, and unwittingly gives the mall publicity. Paddington tries to raise money to buy a Gift-o-Gram for Mr. Brown's birthday. However, Mr. Gruber has just the answer. In QuebecPaddington visits an Paddington: Paddingtons Adventures palace and enters an ice sculpture contest and wins a canoe race. La(ky and Bonnie Brennen For Better or For Worse: Coming Out in the Funny Pages Among the most significant occasions in the lives of gay men and lesbians is the one in which they realize that their sexual orientation situates them as "other." One aspect of this process, known as coming out, is the self-acknowledgement ofbeing gay or lesbian, while another aspect consists of revealing this identity to family members and friends. During her 1980s fieldwork with lesbians and gay men in San Francisco, anthropologist Kath Weston observed that "no other topic generated an emotional response comparable to coming out to blood (or adoptive) relatives" (1991, 43). She wrote: When discussion turned to the subject of straight family, it was not unusual for interviews to be interrupted by tears, rage, or a lengthy silence. "Are you out to your parents?" and "Are you out to your family?" were questions that almost inevitably arose in the process of getting to know another lesbian or gay person. ( 43) In Spring of 1993, such a "coming out" process was played out in North American newspapers through Canadian artist Lynn Johnston's syndicated comic strip, For Better or For Worse.

    Animating Transcultural Communities: Animation Fandom in North America and East Asia from 1906–2010 By Sandra Annett A thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies of The University of Manitoba in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Department of English, Film, and Theatre University of Manitoba Winnipeg © 2011 Sandra Annett Abstract This dissertation examines the role that animation plays in the formation of transcultural fan communities. A ―transcultural fan community‖ is defined as a group in which members from many national, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds find a sense of connection across difference, engaging with each other through a mutual interest in animation while negotiating the frictions that result from their differing social and historical contexts. The transcultural model acts as an intervention into polarized academic discourses on media globalization which frame animation as either structural neo-imperial domination or as a wellspring of active, resistant readings. Rather than focusing on top-down oppression or bottom-up resistance, this dissertation demonstrates that it is in the intersections and conflicts between different uses of texts that transcultural fan communities are born. The methodologies of this dissertations are drawn from film/media studies, cultural studies, and ethnography. The first two parts employ textual close reading and historical research to show how film animation in the early twentieth century (mainly works by the Fleischer Brothers, Ōfuji Noburō, Walt Disney, and Seo Mitsuyo) and television animation in the late twentieth century (such as The Jetsons, Astro Boy and Cowboy Bebop) depicted and generated nationally and ethnically diverse audiences.

    John Read is the creator and curator of the “One Fine Sunday in the Funny Pages” exhibit. A freelance cartoonist, John also teaches cartooning to children and is the publisher and editor of Stay Tooned! Magazine, considered the trade journal of the craft. The Comic Mode The comic strip provides a colorful and humorous respite from the serious and often tragic news that precedes it. There are many reasons for reading the “funny pages”; from the basic need to be entertained, to the desire to escape for a moment into what seems a playful combination of a joke and a sequence of images that illustrate the nonsense and play that generates it. Yet, what really constitutes the “comic” in a comic strip? Are they simply funny, as in Blondie, Garfield or Hagar the Horrible? Or do we sense underlying tones of irony, satire, political and social commentary as evidenced in Doonesbury, Non Sequitur, and Between Friends? How are we to understand the double entendre, the sting of wit or the twist of the absurd that infuses so many contemporary comic strips? It would seem that as in dreams, there are many levels to the comic mode. On the first take, the superficial or manifest appeal generates a smile or laughter. But as with many dreams and good jokes, there is the second take, a latent need to establish or defy meaning as embedded within the structure of the images themselves. The paradox or playfulness of the comic strip partially lies in discovering the truth in the nonsensical aspects of day-to-day living.
